Abstract
La invención se refiere a un método para el procesamiento de minerales de laterita, para que los metales contenidos en las lateritas se convierten en formas solubles en agua para la recuperación de metales valiosos, como el níquel y el cobalto. Los diferentes tipos de lateritas de níquel se procesan al mismo tiempo, sin separarse de acuerdo con su contenido de hierro y/o magnesio. Cuando las lateritas son pretratadas con ácido mineral concentrado de manera que los metales contenidos en las lateritas reaccionen para formar sales solubles en agua, los silicatos contenidos en las lateritas son parcialmente descompuestos y la separación líquido-sólido posterior a la lixiviación se hace más fácil de lo que era antes. De acuerdo con el método, el vapor de agua generado en la etapa de la reacción del ácido y el mineral se utiliza en el secado del mineral y el ácido mineral que no ha reaccionado se recicla a la parte inicial del proceso.
