Abstract
The method finds application in the hydrometallurgical zinc production. It helps achieve higher quality of the cathode zinc and improved electrochemical characteristics of the process. Following elimination of admixtures, the sulphuric acid solutions resulting from the sulphuric acid extraction of burnt blende are subjected to electroextraction, as a result of which the zinc gets detached from the cathode, while a part of the exhaust electrolyte is fed for dissolving new blende portions. A dosed quantity of sulphite reagent is continuously added to the purified zinc sulphate solution undergoing electrolysis, such dosed quantity ensuring 300 to 1500 mg/l SO3-2 concentration in the solution. Sulphurous acid or water solutions of its salts (alkaline sulphites or hydrosulphites, ammonium sulphite or hydrosulphite, zinc sulphite), preferably solution of sodium hydrosulphite NaHSO3, are used as a sulphite reagent.
