Abstract
Esta invención está relacionada con composiciones y métodos para modificar los genes FASCIATED EAR2 (FEA2) en plantas, opcionalmente para modificar el tamaño del meristemo. La invención además está relacionada con plantas que tienen un número aumentado de filas de granos producidas con el uso de los métodos y las composiciones de la invención. Reivindicación 1: Una planta de maíz o parte de planta de maíz que comprende al menos una mutación en un gen endógeno FASCIATED EAR2 (FEA2) que codifica un polipéptido FEA2. Reivindicación 2: La planta de maíz o parte de esta de la reivindicación 1, donde el gen endógeno FASCIATED EAR2 (FEA2) tiene el número de identificación de gen (ID de gen) Zm00001d051012. Reivindicación 11: La planta de maíz o parte de esta de cualquiera de las reivindicaciones precedentes, donde el gen endógeno FASCIATED EAR2 (FEA2) a) comprende una secuencia de nucleótidos que tiene al menos 90% de identidad de secuencia con SEQ ID Nº 72 o SEQ ID Nº 73, b) comprende una región que tiene al menos 90% de identidad de secuencia con cualquiera de las secuencias de nucleótidos de SEQ ID Nº 75 - 77, c) codifica una secuencia de aminoácidos que tiene al menos 90% de identidad de secuencia con SEQ ID Nº 74, y/o d) codifica un polipéptido que comprende una región que tiene al menos 90% de identidad de secuencia con cualquiera de las secuencias de aminoácidos de SEQ ID Nº 78 - 80. Reivindicación 15: La planta de maíz o parte de esta de cualquiera de las reivindicaciones precedentes, donde la al menos una mutación resulta en un gen FEA2 mutado que comprende una secuencia de nucleótidos que tiene al menos 90% de identidad de secuencia con cualquiera de SEQ ID Nº 82, 84, 86, 88, 90, 92, 94, 96 o 98 y/o codifica un polipéptido FEA2 mutado que tiene al menos 90% de identidad de secuencia con cualquiera de SEQ ID Nº 83, 85, 87, 89, 91, 93, 95, 97, o 99. Reivindicación 16: Una célula de planta de maíz que comprende un sistema de edición, el sistema de edición comprende: a) una proteína efectora CRISPR-Cas; y b) un ácido nucleico guía que comprende una secuencia espaciadora con complementariedad con un gen diana endógeno que codifica una proteína FEA2. Reivindicación 100: Un método para controlar malezas en un contenedor (por ejemplo, maceta, o almácigo y similares), una cámara de crecimiento, un invernadero, un campo, un área recreacional, un césped, o a la vera de un camino, que comprende aplicar un herbicida a una o más (una pluralidad) de plantas de cualquiera de las reivindicaciones 1 - 15, 19 - 21, 35, 36, 76, 93 o 94, que crecen en un contenedor, una cámara de crecimiento, un invernadero, un campo, un área recreacional, un césped, o a la vera de un camino, por lo cual se controlan las malezas en el contenedor, la cámara de crecimiento, el invernadero, el campo, el área recreacional, el césped, o en la vera del camino donde la única o más plantas están creciendo. Reivindicación 101: Un método para reducir la depredación de insectos en una planta de maíz, que comprende aplicar un insecticida a una o más plantas de cualquiera de las reivindicaciones 1 - 15, 19 - 21, 35, 36, 76, 93 o 94, por lo cual se reduce la depredación de insectos en la única o más plantas de maíz. Reivindicación 102: Un método para reducir la enfermedad fúngica en una planta de maíz, que comprende aplicar un fungicida a una o más plantas de cualquiera de las reivindicaciones 1 - 15, 19 - 21, 35, 36, 76, 93 o 94, por lo cual se reduce la enfermedad fúngica en la única o más plantas de maíz.
