Abstract

An anode structure in the cell includes the anode stem (1) which is connected to the anode beam (2) and the anode yoke (3) which is electrically contacted by a carbon anode (5) through the bolts (4). The anode strain is cooled by increasing the surface area of the stem over the superstructure (6) of the cell or by using a refrigerant circulating along the stem. The cooling of the anode can be combined with the use of a heat insulating material (7) on the anode trunk below the superstructure.
