Abstract
En kaldbueutladning brukes for dekomponering av naturgass eller metan i dens gasskomponenter og karbon i form av faste partikler. De gasskomponentene som dannes vil i hovedsaken være hydrogen og acetylen og de vil foreligge i en blanding med ikke-reagert naturgass eller metan. Kaldbueutladningen tilveiebringes ved at en pulserende høyspenningsutladning legges via en kondensator på en høyspenningselektrode eller flere slike eller via en høyspenningselektrode på et antall kondensatorkoblede elektroder i reaksjonssonen. Anordningen for gjennomføring av denne prosessen kan innbefatte en rørformet reaktor med en sylindrisk jordingselektrode i midten og med en sylindrisk yttervegg hvorigjennom høyspenningselektroden eller -elektrodene går inn i reaksjonssonen. Anordningen kan også ha en sylindrisk aksel i midten, fremstilt av dielektrisk materiale, i hvilken aksel et antall elektroder er innlagt. Denne akselen er omgitt av en rørformet høyspenningselektrode. Naturgass eller metan føres gjennom reaksjonssonen hvor den utsettes for kaldbueutladningen eller -utladningene. De resulterende produkter vil gå ut fra reaktoren og faste karbonpartikler skilles fra gassene, som så blir analysert.
