Abstract
Den foreliggende oppfinnelse vedrører en elektrolytisk fremgangsmåte for raffinering av metaller med et smeltepunkt over ca. 1000?C, særlig silisium, hvor det fremskaffes et øvre smeltet sjikt av det samme metallet som metallet som skal raffineres, hvilket sjikt utgjør en katode, et nedre smeltet sjikt av metallet som skal raffineres og minst ett metall mer edelt enn metallet som skal raffineres, hvilket nedre sjikt utgjør en anode, hvilken legering har en høyere tetthet enn metallet som skal raffineres, og en smeltet oksidbasert elektrolytt inneholdende SiO2, hvilken elektrolytt er i smeltet tilstand og har et smeltepunkt under driftstemperaturen for prosessen, hvilken elektrolytt har en tetthet mellom tettheten for det øvre og det nedre smeltede sjikt, føre en likestrøm fra anoden gjennom elektrolytten til katoden hvorved metallet som skal raffineres beveges fra anoden og avsettes i smeltet tilstand ved katoden.
