Et navigasjonssystem inneholder et posisjonsnett som har et antall noder, som hver tilsvarer et segment i et veiseg- mentnett. En forgrening forplantes fra hver node i posi- sjonsnettet basert på en "dødberegnet" (dead reckon) vei med posisjonsvektorer. Hver av forgreningene i posisjons- nettet representerer en potensiell posisjon for kjøretøyet. Forgreningene i posisjonsnettet sammenlignes med segmentet i segmentnettet for å bestemme kjøretøyets nåværende posi- sjon .
