Abstract

Se provee un método para procesar un mineral aurífero sulfurado que consiste en mantener al mineral en un ambiente sustancialmente libre de oxígeno, que preferentemente comienza con la trituracion del mineral y finaliza cuando se obtiene por flotacion un concentrado final deseado enriquecido en minerales sulfurados. En una realizacion, se utiliza gas nitrogeno para impedir sustancialmente el contacto entre el mineral y el aire durante la trituracion del mismo y durante las operaciones de flotacion. Se cree que el gas oxígeno presente en el aire afecta negativamente la recuperacion de minerales sulfatados en un concentrado de flotacion a través de la oxidacion superficial de las partículas de mineral sulfurado. El uso de un gas como el nitrogeno puede reducir significativamente el potencial para dicha oxidacion superficial. Además, se pueden usar ventajosamente gases separados de una planta de oxígeno, usándose una corriente de gas oxígeno, por ejemplo, para la oxidacion a presion de los materiales de mineral sulfurado y usando una corriente de gas nitrogeno en las operaciones de trituracion y/o flotacion, lo que implica un uso ventajoso de una corriente de subproducto que anteriormente se venteaba a la atmosfera como desperdicio.
