Abstract

Un proceso para la preparación de partículas de un hidróxido de doble capa de la fórmula general: [Mpz+. M'qy+ (OH)2]a+(Xn-)a/n • bH2O (i), en donde MZ+ y M'y+ son cationes de metales o mezclas de cationes de metales, z = 1 o 2; y = 3 o 4; p + q = 1; b = O a 10, X"' es un anión, n es de 1 a 5, y a es determinado por p, q, y, y z, de tal manera que a = zp+yq-2 comprende: (a) mezclar, en una solución acuosa, Mz+ cationes, M'y+ cationes, y Xn- aniones, con una base; y (b) permitir que el hidróxido de doble capa de la fórmula (I) se precipite a partir de la solución mezclada en el paso (a). De preferencia, M es Li, Mg, Zn, Fe, Ni, Co, Cu, Ca, o una mezcla de dos o más. De preferencia, y es 3, y M' es Al, Ga, In, Fe, o una mezcla de dos o más de los mismos. También se proporcionan partículas que se pueden obtener mediante el proceso, en especial en donde M es Ca, M' es Al, y Xn- es NO3-. También se proporcionan partículas de un hidróxido de doble capa en donde las partículas tienen un tamaño de partículas no mayor que 2,000 nanómetros, de preferencia no mayor que 300 nanómetros, y en especial no mayor que 100 nanómetros. Los hidróxidos de doble capa de acuerdo con la invención son útiles en ciertas aplicaciones, por ejemplo, como adsorbentes, recubrimientos y soportes de catalizador.
