Abstract

Se provee un proceso para la recuperación de óxido de cinc a partir de un mineral de cinc, el cual incluye las etapas de: lixiviación del mineral de cinc con un agente lixiviante alcalino que comprende una mezcla acuosa de NH3 y NH4Cl, o equivalente iónico que tenga una concentración de NH4Cl de entre aproximadamente 10 g/L y aproximadamente 150 g/L en H2O y una concentración de NH3 de entre aproximadamente 20 g/L en H2O y 250 g/L en H2O, para producir un lixiviado de contiene cinc y un residuo sólido; desorber el amoniaco del lixiviado para producir un licor de desorción que incluye un precipitado que contiene cinc, el licor de desorción teniendo una concentración de NH3 de entre 7 y 30 g/L en H2O; separar el precipitado que contiene cinc desde el licor de desorción, y convertir el precipitado recuperado que contiene cinc en óxido de cinc utilizando cuando menos uno de los pasos de: tostar el precipitado que contiene cinc a una temperatura de entre 400 y 900 °C; o hidrólisis del precipitado que contiene cinc en agua que tiene una temperatura de entre 80 y 300 °C.
