Abstract

La invención se refiere a procesos que convierten de manera eficiente materiales que contienen carbono tales como biomasa, en productos de un modo tal que la energía, el carbono y el contenido de masa de los materiales son transferidos de manera eficiente a dichos productos. Dichos métodos incluyen convertir los materiales en al menos un intermediario mediante un proceso de conversión biológica y al menos un intermediario mediante un proceso de conversión termoquímica y hacer reaccionar los intermediarios para formar el producto. Dichos métodos tienen una eficiencia de energía química para producir el producto que es mayor que la eficiencia de energía química de un solo proceso de conversión biológica para producir el producto y que es mayor que la eficiencia de energía química de un proceso en el cual el material es inicialmente sometido al paso de conversión termoquímica como parte del proceso para producir el producto.
