Matt Jackson (MJ) shared thisYou can never have too much PRIDE at work. We have recently installed the last of our Rainbow transformers at our Clyde site. The green transformer at Clyde is now operating. Transformers play a critical role in the operation of a hydroelectric power station. At Clyde, they take the electrical energy produced by each generator and transform it from 15,400 volts to 220,000 volts, ready for transmission across the national grid to power homes and businesses across New Zealand. With the addition of the green transformer, the full Clyde rainbow is now complete and a vibrant reflection of the Pride flag. The transformers are coloured red, orange, green, and blue, with consideration still being given to how the missing two colours, yellow and purple, may be incorporated. As a Pride Pledge certified employer, this bold visual statement reflects Contact’s commitment to embracing diversity and supporting our Rainbow Community. Its pretty cool seeing this come to life!

What struck me most wasn’t just the stories themselves, but the honesty and them sharing their authentic selves. The kind that makes you pause, reflect, and quietly ask yourself - am I doing enough? Sessions like this are a reminder that allyship isn’t built in documents… it’s built in moments. Moments where we choose to: - speak up when it’s uncomfortable - listen without needing to fix - create space, not just take it - back people publicly, not just privately I’m grateful to have hosted this kōrero, and even more grateful for the reminder that the work doesn’t stop here. Sonn, who currently serves as Woolworths’ chief customer officer, is set to join Pick n Pay in February 2027 and work alongside current CEO Sean Summers during a planned transition. The appointment brings 26 years of Woolworths South Africa experience to a retailer still navigating a major turnaround. Sonn also spent five years as managing director of Woolworths’ Food Division, a role Pick n Pay highlighted as particularly relevant to his appointment. Summers returned as Pick n Pay CEO in 2023 as the retailer tackled financial pressure and technical insolvency. His current contract expires in May 2028, when Sonn is expected to take over as CEO. For Pick n Pay, the leadership change comes as the group considers store closures and potential retrenchments while continuing efforts to restore profitability. The appointment gives Sonn more than a year to work with Summers before the formal handover — making the transition an important part of Pick n Pay’s wider turnaround. 📌 Tap the comment below to read the full story.

Matt Jackson (MJ) reacted on thisMatt Jackson (MJ) reacted on this👋🏻 After 4 1/2 awesome years at Contact Energy Ltd , I’m that guy doing a “I’m leaving post, look at me post ”…geez why am I doing this? Get it together man… Primarily it’s because I didn’t get to say goodbye to so many of my awesome colleagues and teammates across the country, I got walked as I’m “kind of a big deal” (**sarcasm font required and Anchorman vibes - i digress, anyways…) and had to be jettisoned asap and today is my last day As everyone always says (probably as it’s the truth) it’s the people that make a culture and a company, and boy is that the case at Contact (I.e global top 100 places to work, Energy Retailer of the Year, The Good Initiative….) . I’ve loved every second working there and what we accomplished for many kiwis, becoming a genuine alternative to the big guy telcos by becoming #5 biggest broadband provider in NZ, building and growing a Mobile business to start challenging the establishment through a challenger mindset, and growing our energy base year after year, through our time of use plans and sharp Gas pricing A big thank you to Angus Wilson and Matt Bolton for bringing me on board, and to Sam Morse, Carolyn Luey and the current and past leadership team, my peers and my team that pushed and challenged me to be better “Why are you posting this, where to next, Lance? Whats the plan?” Great question my LinkedIn acquaintances…. Much to my contact teams chagrin (probably…Im hoping), I’m taking up the role of Head of Energy at Mercury NZ , so red will become yellow (even though black is my colour of choice fashion wise) and I’ll continue to do my best to ensure we are doing what’s right for all kiwis. As someone once said “It is nice to have valid competition; it pushes you to do better”. And with that, game on….. This morning, my partner Jason Burns was live on ABC Radio talking about workplace flexibility. And honestly? It stopped me in my tracks. Not just because I'm proud (though I really am 👏) - but because it made me reflect on something I don't say out loud enough: My job, in its current form, simply would not exist pre-COVID. I work across Australia 🇦🇺, Canada 🇨🇦, the United Kingdom 🇬🇧, the United States 🇺🇸, Ireland 🇮🇪 and New Zealand 🇳🇿. Not because I'm constantly on a plane. But because 2–3 days working remotely each week changed everything about what's possible. And here's what that's actually given me: → Greater challenge → Deeper job satisfaction → And - perhaps most importantly - genuine engagement with my work We talk a lot about flexibility as an accommodation. A perk. Something we allow. But what if we reframed it? What if flexibility isn't what we give employees to keep them happy - but the very thing that unlocks their best work? The post-COVID world handed us a gift. And I think a lot of organisations are still deciding whether to open it. To every leader still sitting on the fence about flexible work: the data is there. The stories are there. And this morning, my partner was on national radio helping tell them. Pretty proud of that. 🧡
