With nearly 700 applications, these interns truly represent the crème de la crème — bringing fresh perspectives, curiosity, and energy to Contact. Today, we’re introducing the first in our spotlight series: Nova Coburn-Davies, who’s studying Environmental Engineering at the University of Canterbury and has joined our Civil and Dam Safety Engineering team at Clyde. ☀️ Nova’s first week? “Like being guided around a theme park — hopping on small rollercoasters while working toward the big ones! I’ve used the quieter moments to ask questions, learn, and have fun.” 🪴 What she hopes to get out of her summer: “To figure out what my career may look like — by trying new things, exploring parts of the business I haven’t seen before, and building my knowledge of the system.” 😎 One thing she learned that surprised her: “That Contact drains hillsides to prevent slips upstream of the dams — and that Clyde’s control room manages everything from generation to lake levels to power buying/selling. Lauren Jepson liked thisLauren Jepson liked thisTwo weeks ago I had the incredible privilege of attending the Indonesia International Geothermal Convention & Exhibition in Jakarta with our Contact Energy Ltd and Western Energy Services team. The conference was next-level in every sense. The geothermal community in Indonesia is massive and motivated - and their potential will be even further unlocked over the next few years. The energy from the event left me feeling excited about the future of our industry. These companies are all doing innovative and ambitious things - and I’m excited to watch how they lead in the years to come! I’m grateful for all of the connections we made over the week. From meeting with other operators and contractors, to traveling with the New Zealand delegation, and meeting WING Indonesia - the week was full of meaningful relationship building. I can’t wait to see you all again next year and to host those of you who come to New Zealand. Special thanks to my travel buddies - Warren Mannington, Junior Setiawan, and Edgina K. Aon's Assessment Solutions received the award together with Vodafone in the category Recruiting & Attraction for the "Vodafone Future Jobs Finder: next stop - perfect job!” Aon's Assessment Solutions and Vodafone jointly developed a platform as a global solution to offer guidance for young people on the digital jobs they are suited for and provide better access to learning and employment opportunities.
The tool is based on a scientific approach and provides young, often unemployed or underemployed people with career guidance and new learning opportunities. Using psychometric tests, the Vodafone Future Jobs Finder identifies the user’s aptitudes and interests, mapping these to the most appropriate digital job category and giving them a better idea of which roles, they would likely enjoy and be more suited for. In addition to that the user also receive specific digital career recommendations and free learning opportunities. -

The question I'm asked most after a keynote: why has nobody put it this way before? When I give a talk, I unpack the belief systems sitting underneath high performance and successful transformation. Not the behaviours everyone can see, the wiring underneath them. Why capable leaders quietly undermine the ownership they say they want. Why deeply committed leaders burn out first. Why culture change fails when it's aimed at process change rather than human change. It draws on a decade of research, the research I did with senior academics at UCL, the Bright Spot findings on the seven traits of transformational leaders, and what I've learned at close range from Alan Mulally, former CEO of Ford, about how those principles held up in one of the great corporate turnarounds of all time. Getting to the level of belief is what changes things, it’s just our focus on what’s easier to see means we rarely get that far.

This is why my approach to analysis and research of any kind is spherical, multidimensional, multicoloured, tutti frutti (yes, I'm serious). And this is one of the many reasons why I see value experiences that allow for "field research". Look up! Get up! Get out! Go speak to the person over there (disclaimer: apply this advise with care...) Workshops like Social Charters and similar frameworks that really tap into real human *yes you read it right* and can allow room for truly intelligent and also" Blimey" (said an English person somewhere" R E A L conversations. I am "all" for "conversations" with #AI, or the marketable name. Once upon a time someone told me "exchanging text messages with you is like running a conversation marathon" - well, I hope this person is drowning in data from their multiple marathons run with hollow LLMs now. Proudly and UNDENIABLY human, I am at heart (what's that?), a conversationalist. Come have a real conversation. ;-) What do I mean? Read the post below...
