For approximatelyWhy Does Ditto Allow People to Upload and Distribute Other Artists’ Music Without Proper Rights Verification? the past year

For approximately the past year, I have been dealing with the unauthorized use of my works and their redistribution by other parties. Throughout this process, I have been continuously working with MLC, MSG, my distributors, and other rights organizations to protect my own works.

What concerns me most about Ditto is the following:

How are you able to accept and distribute other people's works, sound recordings, and catalogs so easily without conducting an adequate rights-ownership review?

The songs in my catalog have already been released on other platforms, have been available for years, have identifiers such as ISRCs and UPCs, and have established rights-ownership records. Despite this, these works can still be redistributed by other people through Ditto.

Moreover, this is not an isolated incident involving a single track. Multiple works from my catalog were uploaded by other people through Ditto and accepted for distribution within a single night.

This raises some very simple questions:

Has this song been released before?

Does this sound recording belong to another rights holder?

Has the same or substantially identical sound recording previously been submitted for distribution by another artist?

Do the ISRC, UPC, and metadata details match previously existing records?

Does the person submitting the content actually have the right to distribute this work?

If a sound recording matches existing fingerprint data, why isn't it stopped at the upload stage?

These are not extraordinarily complex questions for a music distribution platform.

What is truly unacceptable is this: Content is uploaded, it enters distribution, the infringement takes place, and only afterward does the actual rights holder have to come forward and prove that the work belongs to them.

In other words, the person who has created and released the work for years is forced to carry the entire burden, while the person whose right to distribute that work is questionable is allowed to upload it first.

Why?

Why isn't a genuine rights-ownership check performed before content is accepted?

Why aren't existing metadata, ISRC, UPC, and audio matches checked?

Why can a recording that has already been released by another rights holder be uploaded again by a different person?

And why, when something goes wrong, is the burden once again placed on the legitimate rights holder?

For approximately a year, I have been dealing with the same problems across different platforms. In order to protect my own works, I have been forced to constantly monitor platforms, identify unauthorized uses, collect evidence, and submit separate copyright claims one by one.

Why should an artist have to do the job of a distribution platform just to protect their own work?

If Ditto truly has an effective pre-release verification system, I want to see the results of that system. If there is no adequate verification system in place, then I want to know why.

Because the situation we are seeing today is this:

Someone can take your song, upload it to the system, the system can distribute it, and the legitimate rights holder is then left to chase after the infringement.

This is not a system that protects rights holders; it is a system that leaves rights holders responsible for dealing with the problem after the fact.

I am not looking for advertising or a generic explanation from Ditto. I expect a specific and substantive answer:

What rights-ownership checks do you perform before accepting someone else's work?

Do you have an audio fingerprinting / audio matching system?

Do you check for ISRC and metadata conflicts?

How do you detect the re-uploading of works that have already been released by another artist?

And if a work can still be uploaded without authorization despite all of these systems, why is the legitimate rights holder repeatedly forced to deal with the consequences?

It is not acceptable to make artists chase after their own works instead of strengthening the systems designed to protect those works.

I believe this issue should not be dismissed as a simple “copyright complaint,” but should instead be treated as a serious rights-ownership and content-verification problem within the music distribution system itself.

5+ year Ditto experience.

Have used Ditto for a few years now. I have never encountered any major issues. There have been some smaller issues here and there, mainly just with distribution quirks, which is the only reason it loses a star. I'd also argue that the customer service is a lot better in my experience than most say. usually very quick, friendly and helpful.

Released album onto wrong accounts, slow customer service.

My band released an album through Ditto and it got put onto accounts and profiles that we do not associate with. We've contacted customer support multiple times but they have not resolved the issue since it was released multiple days ago. Slow customer support and finicky song guidelines. Please do not use this service and go somewhere else to release your awesome music, they don't deserve to associate with your artwork.

Don’t use ditto unless you are Ed Sheeran. You will waste money not receiving services you paid for, and then also sit around wondering where the PAID priority support is. Just use routenote.. at least that one is free

My debut album...and guess what

My debut album...and guess what, they have uploaded my whole album on various platforms on another artists accounts who have the same name as mine! I was told you can add the ID of whatever platforms you already have the IDs for and leave the rest blank and we will create it for you..post the release I get called by friends and family stating the profile on all platforms is not yours! What a shame and disaster.. DittoMusic's support sucks big time and I will never recommend them to anyone... As I write this with frustration it's more than 24, hours and I have not got a single response to my chat or email.. no wonder they don't have a helpline number!

Hi Pravin

We understand your frustration regarding your debut album release and want to clear this up. As confirmed, your SoundCloud Artist ID was added correctly and the album is live on your profile. On other platforms, store algorithms can automatically route releases to existing profiles when artists share the exact same name.

Our team has submitted requests to stores to separate your profile and move your release to a new page. We have also replied to your support ticket asking for further details. Please check your inbox and reply to our message so we can finalise this fix with the stores.

Thanks

The chat was extremely helpful

The chat was extremely helpful. All my questions were answered completely. I would be even happier if my problem were resolved. ( I ran into your upload limit in the middle of my large catalog.) Its only been about three hours so I'm not upset yet. But it would be nice to get the last two songs I was planning on today up so they can make my release date.
