What a dreadful experience with Alamo…
What a dreadful experience with Alamo Edinburgh. Interminable queues to pick up a really dirty car with disgusting stained seats. We took photos of all the existing damage to the bodywork - which was hard as the car was so dirty. We returned the car with a full tank of petrol in the same condition as we picked it up. It was fully inspected by Alamo staff and my deposit returned. But over a week later I received a retrospective follow-up claim via email for damage we are supposed to have done - to the roof!! It was sent with no evidence - simply the information that we would be charged repair costs and only refunded if our claim dispute was upheld. Nothing is worth the amount of hassle it’s been trying to get this sorted. I have finally received a DRU notification that the claim has been “voided”. No accompanying email, no apology, not even confirmation that my money has been refunded. Simply “voided”. Alamo appears utterly shameless in the ways it tries to scam its customers - I would avoid them like the plague! Update. I am now having to query a payment to Amazon marketplace made during our stay for items which haven’t shown up on my Amazon account.
Booked and paid €476 online on July…
Booked and paid €476 online on July 29th for a rental at Belgrade Airport on August 1st.
Upon arrival, the counter agent refused to hand over the car claiming my credit card did not display my full last name. The rental was canceled on the spot, but they KEPT MY €476! No car was provided, yet no refund has been made.
To make matters worse, their official customer support email bounces and rejects incoming emails! It is completely impossible to reach them to solve the issue.
This is unacceptable behavior from an international brand. I am filing a formal complaint with consumer protection agencies and initiating a chargeback procedure with my bank.
AVOID THIS LOCATION AT ALL COSTS!
We had an excellent experience with…
We had an excellent experience with Alamo Edinburgh. Easy pick up, clear information, easy drop off, quick refund of deposit. Extra thank you to Nikola Paika for friendly service.
Very poor customer service
Very poor customer service. Booked an automatic, was given a manual. No explanation for this, paid for an additional driver who then couldn't drive it. Have contacted customer service numerous times after this. Have always been told, it's been escalated, will get back to you within 5 working days. Nothing.
I am very happy with this company
I am very happy with this company. I borrow around twice a year and never encountered problems. Costa Rica and Spain appeared to me especially noteworthy and well organized in regards of pick-up and drop-off!
Bad service
We rented a car from your company for one month, but after only two weeks we were informed that the car’s registration/license had expired. This was entirely the company’s responsibility, yet we were unable to properly use the car for almost a week while waiting for the documents to be replaced.
We were repeatedly told that someone was coming, which forced us to stay home and wait. Eventually, I had to borrow a car from a family member. We were also stopped by the police twice and had to explain why the rental car had expired documents. After this, we no longer felt comfortable driving the car.
When we returned the car, I honestly informed the staff about a very small amount of damage. Despite this, I was charged $40, while several garages told me after seeing the photos that the repair should cost approximately $10.
The return process also made me uncomfortable, as I felt that additional damage was being blamed on me. Fortunately, I had recorded the condition of the car when I received it and had video evidence.
When I explained the situation to Hassanein and pointed out that we had lost almost a week of the rental due to the company’s mistake, I was simply offered a $10 discount if I left a good review. This felt extremely unprofessional and made me question the honesty of the service.
Overall, this was a very stressful and disappointing experience. We paid for a full month but were unable to properly use the car for several days because of your mistake, were stopped by the police twice, and were then charged an unreasonable amount for minor damage. This is not how customers should be treated.
Paid for Zero-Excess peace of mind, got hit with automated claims for pre-existing damage anyway
Rented from Geneva Airport and paid extra at the desk for full Zero-Excess cover specifically to ensure a stress-free return. The car was returned without any incident, yet within days I received automated emails demanding damage reports for minor scratches.
The worst part? The scratches their check-in agent flagged were pre-existing marks that were already on the vehicle and marked up at collection.
There is a complete disconnect between collection, return inspections, and back-office claims. Paying for top-tier zero-excess cover is supposed to buy peace of mind, but instead, you are left dealing with lazy administrative bureaucracy and baseless claims. Defeats the entire point of paying for full cover. Will be looking elsewhere next time.
AVOID ALAMO MULHOUSE AND KLEVIS DURAJ …
AVOID ALAMO MULHOUSE AND KLEVIS DURAJ - DISCRIMINATORY AND HUMILIATING ❌❌❌❌
Stay far away from Alamo Mulhouse! Agent Klevis DURAJ racially profiled us and refused to release our reserved car, claiming I looked "suspicious."
Despite having a valid reservation, all required documents, and being completely polite, we were treated with open hostility and denied service. This ruined our trip to the Black Forest and left us stranded.
Do not risk your money or dignity at this branch. Unprofessional, discriminatory, and completely unreliable!
We gave them all our flight information and they still left.
we provided information about our flight that was delayed and they didnt wait for us even they said that they will, I called them multiple times
never again
Avoid this rental company
Avoid this rental company
Over charge you and won't reply to emails, sent 5 emails and nothing.
Cars were dirty, scratched to buggery so ensure you document your vehicles well if you're stupid enough to rent through them
Check the fuel gauge/ estimated miles as my vehicle left with less fuel than I returned it.
They also deal with other companies so expect a deposit and ensure its returned after dropping the car back
Wasn't a pleasant experience
Robbery
Had a reservation at Izmir airport for 2 weeks rental in July 2026. Arrived 1 hour late for pickup. They refused delivery of vehicle and stated no refund either since I had not informed them of the 1 hour delay. Claimed late arrival is grounds for non delivery as stated or rather buried somewhere within the 16 page rental agreement. Avoid!!!!!
⭐ 1 star
⭐ 1 star — An absolute nightmare at Alamo/Enterprise Seville Airport
Reservation D014952492 — vehicle refused despite multiple attempts to find a solution
This was one of the worst customer-service experiences we have ever had with a car rental company.
We had a prepaid reservation through Discover Cars and arrived at Alamo/Enterprise Seville Airport for our scheduled 20:00 pickup.
The issue was the €200 security deposit.
I want to make something very clear: we were NOT refusing to follow the rental company's requirements. We were actively trying to comply with them.
The main driver had a valid credit card in his own name, from a Portuguese bank, available digitally on his phone. We were willing to show the card, its details and provide whatever verification was reasonably required.
The manager didn't even want to look at it or attempt to verify it.
Instead, she repeatedly told us that because the booking had been made through an intermediary, “we can't do anything.”
So we tried another solution.
We offered to change the main driver to Julie, who had a physical credit card from a Portuguese bank.
We also provided a physical debit card from a Portuguese bank.
All the cards we offered as solutions were from Portuguese banks — Millennium, CTT and Caixa Económica.
We were trying to provide the required €200 deposit. We were not asking them to waive it.
We even called the rental company's customer service from their own phone at the desk. Their representative told us that either a credit or debit card could be used for the €200 deposit, which contradicted what we were being told at the counter.
Instead of trying to find a solution, the explanations kept changing:
“It's airport policy.”
“The reservation was made less than 24 hours ago.”
“We don't accept the debit card.”
“You booked through Discover Cars, so we can't do anything.”
We spent approximately two hours trying to resolve this.
We offered different cards.
We offered to change the driver.
We offered a physical credit card.
We offered a physical debit card.
We even offered to collect the car the following day and lose an entire day of our rental.
We simply wanted to get the car and leave.
The other employees were generally more willing to speak with us, but every time they tried to help, we were told that the decision depended on the manager.
And the manager's answer was essentially always the same:
“You booked through an intermediary. We can't do anything.”
This was incredibly frustrating because the problem wasn't simply the existence of a company policy. The problem was the complete unwillingness to listen, verify, explain the options clearly or attempt a reasonable solution.
Eventually, the car was refused.
And despite the fact that we physically showed up and spent around two hours trying to collect the vehicle, the reservation was treated as a NO-SHOW.
We did not no-show. The company refused to hand over the vehicle.
We then had to leave, find another rental company, pay for another car and leave another deposit — during our honeymoon.
What makes this even more frustrating is that the booking documentation itself instructed us to contact Discover Cars if the rental company refused to hand over the car. We tried to follow that process, while Alamo/Enterprise repeatedly pushed the responsibility back to the intermediary.
I completely understand that rental companies have security and payment requirements. That is not what I am criticizing.
I am criticizing the way this situation was handled.
A customer was standing in front of the manager with a credit card in the main driver's name, willing to provide verification, while also offering a physical credit card, a physical debit card and even a change of driver.
At no point were we simply refusing to comply.
We were asking for help finding a way to comply.
Instead, we were dismissed, given contradictory explanations and ultimately left without the vehicle.
This was supposed to be our honeymoon. Instead, we spent the beginning of our holiday arguing at a rental desk and arranging another car.
Extremely poor management. Extremely poor communication. And, most importantly, absolutely no willingness to find a solution.
I would not recommend Alamo/Enterprise at Seville Airport based on this experience.
For a company whose own current Seville Airport listing advertises service from 07:00–23:59, there should be a reasonable expectation that customers arriving during operating hours will receive clear assistance when a pickup problem occurs.
We are still seeking the refund of the €329.03 paid for the vehicle that was never provided.
Rented Alamo car in Chicago for 3 days
Rented car in Chicago for 3 days. Day after rental IL Tollway recommended to add car to my IPASS account for term of rental rather than pay few tolls individually. IL provides 14 days to pay tolls and advised all would be handled. Alamo charged for tolls and $25 fees and would not honor IPASS despite providing IPASS reports from IL Tollway proving rental car registration. Citation dept takes at least 30 mins to answer phone, if phones are working. No supervisors to escalate calls. No response from Corporate customer service. WILL NEVER RENT FROM ALAMO AGAIN. They cite erroneous IL Tollway policies. Also - this citation department handles Enterprise and National.
Rent from any other rental agency but these to avoid erroneous extra charges!
Great Experience in spite of Power Outage
We rented with Alamo for a day trip this past weekend and they really overperformed. We picked up the car a few hours after a major storm system went through our area, knocking out power to the rental facility. Counter and exit gate staff already had operations back up and running using remote devices. The lot manager gave me a wide choice of vehicles, and I left in a wonderful full-size SUV. The next day, power was still out. For whatever reason, the lot was completely full, but an army of staff was there to manage the check-in process and I spent no more than 10 minutes before walking out the door.
22 days later…
22 days, three additional emails and two telephone calls later - nothing has happened! No call, no apologies and definitely no money back to my account. Both calls with Customer Service in US went well, they found my canceled reservation and promised call from Spain and money back. Unfortunately nothing has happened. Really disappointing from a large worldwide company?!? (However they have tried to remove my negative comments)… Mladen Šošić
Good service again
’ve rented cars well over 100 times over the years, in many different locations, and I have to say that Alamo at Malaga Airport are among the best I’ve dealt with.
I’ve used them around 10 times since 2018 and the experience has consistently been excellent. There’s never any pressure or hassle about taking out additional insurance, I’ve always received a very good, high-spec car, and returning the vehicle is normally quick and straightforward.
On my most recent rental, I returned the car with a screw in one of the tyres. Rather than immediately trying to blame me or charge me, they were completely reasonable about it and said it could easily have been there when I collected the car.
A special mention to Ruhel, who I believe was the person dealing with my return. He was extremely efficient, friendly and helpful, and genuinely couldn’t do enough for us. He even helped get our bags onto the waiting transport to the airport.
All in all, a genuine five-star experience. They’ve been consistently excellent every time I’ve used them since 2018, and I’ll definitely continue to use Alamo whenever I’m in Malaga.
Alamo car rental - Malaga 5stars
We rented a car from Alamo in Spain (Malaga)
We rented a 7 seater minivan for me and my family, upon arrival at the airport there was simple and straight forward instructions of where to meet, in order to be transferred to an offsite location (5mins) we was sceptical but can honestly say it was an easy experience.
Upon arrival all staff were very polite and friendly, the check out process was fast and simple and the vehicle was in very good condition and perfect for our requirements whilst on holiday.
We took out the additional excess protection and very pleased we did as someone scratched the vehicle and drove off whilst it was parked. The excess protection meant we didn’t pay anything at all. This is highly recommended as you cannot trust other road users.
Returning the vehicle was simple and the instructions we received upon collection stipulated where to return.
We was seen straight away, the vehicle was inspected, we filled the fuel tank just before arriving, the damage was noted and NFTR and no excess due.
We were seen by Johnny Columbia who was an asset to Alamo.
Once the vehicle was handed over we was dropped to the terminal.
We will 100% use Alamo again, good price excellent service, great vehicle and easy.
Thanks Alamo
I had a terrible experience with Alamo…
I had a terrible experience with Alamo in Mainz (Germany). I had a prepaid booking and presented a valid driver's license with all key credentials (document type, full name) explicitly printed in English/Latin script. As an extra precaution, I provided an officially certified translation.
The agent refused to issue the car, claiming an IDP was mandatory. Alamo’s official terms state:
- An IDP is strictly required ONLY if the home license is in a non-Latin script (e.g., Cyrillic, Japanese, Arabic).
- For Latin-based licenses, an IDP is merely recommended.
Source: their official url + car-rental-faqs/drivers-license-requirements.html
My document fully satisfied their written policy. To make matters worse, when I contacted Alamo’s helpdesk to clarify this direct contradiction, the agent dismissed the issue by saying local policies can vary and hung up on me.
Alamo staff ignored their own company regulations and provided zero customer support, leaving me stranded with a prepaid booking. Unreliable and deeply unprofessional service.
Terrible experience , never use Alamo again
Alamo at amsterdam airport uses Enterprise Car rental equipment ,which generally gives out cars that are in very poor condition , whith lots of wear and tear.
And the staff are rude , upon returning the cars are constantly nip picking for damage and wear on the cars to charge ridiculous amounts for tiny little scratches.....
Never use Alamo or Enterprise at amsterdam airport again !!
Denied vehicle without valid reason, then lied about it three times
I have rented cars through EconomyBookings with Alamo multiple times — Barcelona Airport in April 2026 (booking B83542735) and Amsterdam Airport in October 2025 (booking B54777984) — using the exact same documents, the same driving licence, and the same credit card. Zero problems on both occasions.
In June 2026 (booking B64989501), I arrived at the same Alamo desk at Barcelona Airport with identical documents. This time I was refused the vehicle. The stated reason at the desk was that my BBVA Spain credit card does not have embossed (raised) numbers on the front. BBVA is one of Spain's largest banks and has removed printed numbers from cards as a security measure — this cannot be changed by the customer.
I offered to show the card number via the official BBVA mobile app. Refused.
I asked for a written explanation of the refusal. Also refused — the agent told me Alamo does not provide written documentation to customers.
This is where things get dishonest. When EconomyBookings contacted Alamo on my behalf, Alamo stated in writing that the vehicle was not collected because "the customer did not have a valid driving licence." This is a lie. My Russian driving licence is valid until November 2027 and fully conforms to international standards with all data in Latin characters.
When I provided my licence, the stated reason changed again: now it was the absence of an International Driving Permit. Another lie — I had the IDP with me the entire time, and it was never requested at the desk.
That is three different reasons for the same refusal:
Card without embossed number (stated at the desk)
Invalid driving licence (stated in writing by Alamo)
No International Driving Permit (stated by EconomyBookings)
Meanwhile, on the same evening, at the same airport, Record Go rented me a car using the exact same national driving licence — no IDP requested, no issues. I drove 2,127 km over 10 days.
EconomyBookings closed the case and sided with Alamo despite all this evidence. I initiated a chargeback through my bank. Wise ruled in my favour and returned EUR 436.30 in full.
My advice to everyone:
🔴 ALWAYS demand a written refusal with the stated reason before leaving the desk. Alamo refused to provide this — and that is exactly why they were able to change their story three times. Without a written document, you have no proof. They know this and use it deliberately.
🔴 If denied — immediately rent from another company, keep all contracts and invoices as proof your documents were valid.
🔴 File a chargeback through your bank. Do not waste time with EconomyBookings support — they will side with the supplier every time.
This experience cost weeks of stressful correspondence, countless hours of collecting evidence, and a lot of nerves. No customer should have to go through this. The system is designed to make it impossible for you to prove your case — but it is not impossible if you document everything.
