We've had two GBX55s now and both have failed. Instructions suggest you must disconnect the unit from charging immediately it's finished charging or it will damage the unit. This is impractical and utterly stupid on so many levels. How many people have the time to stand over a device, waiting for it to finish charging, when you have no idea how long it's going to take? Bad design. When working it does jump start a van or powerful diesel car. Shame they haven't included an auto-cut-off on the recharging!

★★☆☆☆ Disappointed in the Longevity of a Premium Marine Charger

I purchased the NOCO GEN5X3 in September 2022 to replace the original onboard charger that came installed in my sponsored tournament boat back in 2007. That original charger provided approximately 15 years of reliable service, including years of summer charters and heavy use.

I chose the NOCO because of its reputation for quality, expecting similar reliability.

Unfortunately, after only 3 years and 10 months, Banks 1 and 3 failed, leaving only Bank 2 operational.

Before determining the charger had failed, I spent considerable time troubleshooting:

Replaced the 7.5A inline fuses on Banks 1 and 3.
Verified AC power to the charger.
Moved the Bank 2 charging leads to the batteries connected to Banks 1 and 3, confirming the batteries and wiring were good.
Confirmed Banks 1 and 3 would not charge any battery.

Because I had no indication the charger itself had failed, I believed my batteries had reached the end of their life after they became deeply discharged. I disposed of them and spent approximately $800 replacing three lithium batteries. It wasn't until the new batteries were installed that I isolated the problem to the charger.

When I contacted NOCO, customer service was courteous and responded quickly. However, because the charger was 10 months outside the 3-year warranty, the only resolution offered was a 35% discount on purchasing another GEN5X3.

A premium marine onboard charger should reasonably last much longer than 3 years and 10 months, especially when replacing a charger that lasted 15 years under much harsher conditions.

I still believe NOCO has excellent customer support, but I was disappointed they were unwilling to make a goodwill exception given the circumstances and the relatively short service life of the product.

I hope my experience helps other boat owners understand what to watch for if one or more charging banks silently fail. Had there been a clearer indication of the charger failure, I likely could have saved hundreds of dollars in batteries.

Pros:

Easy installation
Compact design
Responsive customer service

Cons:

Two charging banks failed after less than four years
No obvious indication of individual bank failure
Warranty support ended strictly at three years with no goodwill replacement offered

Overall: I expected a premium marine charger to provide a decade or more of reliable service. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.

Yet again another failure on a GENIUS 2 and surprise surprise it just gone past two year this is the third on were the control panel stops lighting up so you don't know if it's on or what it's charging.
I would advise anyone that is thinking of purchasing one of these chargers to think again and find something else.

Strange how three different units have failed with exactly the same issue over the last year but if you want to sell your product make sure it doesn't last much longer than the warranty. 🤔

I bought a Genius 10 which had the older 2 year warranty. It just made it past 2 years and stopped, so Noco send me a replacement which I had to pay a contribution of 53 dollars towards. This one only did about 12 months and now I find because it's a warranty replacement it only has 3 months warranty, so another contribution payment and a third is on the way.
The charger works well when it works, but they aren't reliable enough. Also, they are filled with rubber to encase the components which makes them feel heavy and therefore good quality, but in reality just good packaging and marketing.
I have a CTEK trickle charger which is about 15 years old and is still going strong, so I have bought a bigger CTEK to run in parallel as a comparison.

I contacted NOCO for an energy audit due to so many ice cycles in the winter.
Dana Gorecki came out and did a whole energy audit. She left no stones unturned, and want afraid to climb down into my crawl space. She provided me information on grants, and even offered to assist me in filling it out, and gave me information on what to expect going forward.
She was professional, knowledgeable and very personable.
Her team of guys came out and insulated areas that needed it. And they were also friendly, professional, and knowledgeable.
It was a pleasure and honor to work with Dana and her team members.
I highly recommend her services, and know that NOCO is happy to have her as an employee!

NOCO genius pro 50 charger first one…

NOCO genius pro 50 charger first one failed after around 18 months now the replacement has failed (both died and fail to turn on) …… yes I’m now outside the 3 year warranty as replacements don’t get a new warranty term and their response is we will send you a link to buy a new one (like I’m going to do that after two have failed) Not what you expect from a company selling what at its launch time was over an £800 battery charger.

DOA and did not honor money back guarantee

My wife and I purchased a NOCO AL5 and it was dead on arrival. Only the flashlight worked. They refused to honor the money back guarantee and wanted us to pay half of what we paid for the device to have it warrantied - i.e., not worth it. It's now an expensive paperweight.

Update: We ended up paying to send it back and they issued a replacement. Seems to work so far.

Poor experience with NOCO 10 Genius and NOCO Support

Purchased a NOCO Genius 10 3 years ago. Only used it a few times and it stopped working. Tried to call NOCO Support but the number on the NOCO website went through to an individual who said he gets lots of calls from NOCO customers but has nothing to do with NOCO. Sent NOCO Support an email. They never responded. Very expensive piece of kit which was very poor quality and NOCO support appears not to exist.

GBX defective - junk.

Bought a very expensive NOCO GBX45 jump started and only used it twice. The unit will no longer accept a charge which appears to be a common problem. I have messaged their support team and await a response when I will update.
Update - no response from customer service. I saw advice to try the cigarette lighter charger lead when the unit no longer accepts a mains charge. I bought a NOCO brand charger but still can’t charge the unit.

So my view is this very expensive item works only twice then becomes another piece of landfill junk :-/

Bought a GB50 several years ago

Bought a GB50 several years ago. Very expensive. Stopped working. It will charge (I think) but then immediately turns off. Only used 2-3 times in total.

Spoke w/ NOCO, they won't refund (out of warranty), or even try to repair.

I did a teardown, the switches in the GB50 seem to have failed. These are ultra-cheap switches, no idea why NOCO puts such cheap switches in a $130+ product.

Great customer service

My Genius 10 stopped working after a little over a year. I emailed customer service wondering if replacement would be a possibility. They were very quick to respond. There were other reviews on here saying they make you "jump through hoops", which I believe is incorrect. Yes, you have to provide serial number and proof of purchase. They also want to see a picture showing that you have cut the cables. I see nothing wrong with asking these things with all of the scammers in the world these days.
I easily provided them with what they needed, and my replacement is on its way.
Kevin at customer service was quick, friendly, and provided a great solution to my problem. I would highly recommend.

Great boost packs customer service sucks!

Great boost packs, own two. Customer service sucks. No number to call, only chat and email options! Can’t get a straight answer on when the charger I ordered will come! I ordered directly from Noco. Has been 3 weeks…
Update: after multiple vague emails from noco I was finally given estimated delivery date and charger for boost pack did come. Funny thing is there is was customer service number on the receipt… why not on website?

Absolutely rubbish charger

Bought a Noco Genius 10 from Halfords in the UK, specifically because it could charge 6V batteries. Couldn't get it to charge anything, neither 12V or 6V. When switched on, it cycles through the charging stages until it goes green in about 15 minutes, as if it's charged the battery but clearly hasn't. Took it back to Halfords who replaced it - new unit does exactly the same. Fortunately my trust old Ctek unit comes to the rescue and charges the 12V batteries the Noco can't. Still can't charge 6V batteries. Owned 2 Noco chargers and never managed to charge one 12V battery after umpteen attempts between them. Avoid like the plague.

Genius 5 Dead - Again!

I bought a Noco Genius 5 from Halfords in February 2021 but it failed within weeks so it was replaced. I’ve used it regularly till today but it’s suddenly dead and out of warranty. I looked to buy a replacement but I am worried about its reliability so checked reviews here. They mostly mirror my experience that these chargers are expensive and unreliable so I shall not repeat the purchase unless noco want to convince me with a free repair.
