This site was recommended to me

This site was recommended to me via a message on a Facebook ad. I had placed. I took the advice and found 'Life With a Van', it is easy to use and upload an advert. I placed my ad. on for twelve months for a very reasonable fee. The ad. received over 4000 views. The only reason it didn't sell fast was my unrealistic price !!! Once I overcame that, it went.

Not one scam but a double scam.

Not one scam but a double scam.

Beware of this company,. I wished I viewed the reviews here before being duped.

I first received a text message saying seen my van advertised and try life with a van you will certainly get a better price, as specialises in campervans.
I first thought it was one of my old car friends, which changed their number.
I checked the website out and it looked ok, loads of good quality vans.
I paid £25 for an advert.
A few days afterwards the 2nd scam came. A potential buyer interested, but wanted a HPI check done prior to viewing said if I paid they reimburse me, as highly interested if came back clear. The report came back clear so a viewing arranged, then on the day of the viewing they cancelled.

I later discovered from the reviews on here this was all part of the wider scam.

The number of views on your advert is just plain made up saying I got 500 views in a few days.

Just avoid this company and go with the likes of Autotrader or Ebay.

Hi Nesty,

We’re genuinely sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you taking the time to leave your feedback.

Firstly, we’d like to clarify that Life With A Van is a legitimate UK campervan marketplace. We have helped many buyers and sellers across the UK, and we take scams extremely seriously.

Unfortunately, the “vehicle history report” scam you described is an industry-wide scam that affects sellers on many platforms, including Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, Auto Trader, eBay and specialist vehicle websites. Scammers monitor public adverts and attempt to persuade sellers to purchase reports from fraudulent websites. They are not associated with Life With A Van in any way.

As soon as we became aware of this scam, we introduced a number of measures to help protect our users, including prominent scam warnings throughout our website, guidance on never purchasing reports requested by buyers, and advice on only using trusted providers. We continue to update these measures whenever new scams emerge.

Regarding the initial text message, we regularly promote our marketplace to people who have publicly advertised campervans for sale. The intention is simply to let sellers know there is a specialist marketplace available. We appreciate that not everyone welcomes these messages and apologise if it came across differently than intended.

As for the advert views, these are generated from genuine page visits recorded by our analytics and are not manually inflated. We understand they may not always translate into enquiries or a sale, but they are based on actual visits to the listing.

We’re sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. We genuinely wish you the very best with the sale of your campervan and appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continue improving the platform.

Best regards,
The Life With A Van Team

Hi Ian,

Thank you for your feedback.

We’re sorry to hear that our text message gave you that impression. Life With A Van is a genuine UK marketplace dedicated to buying and selling campervans, and the message was simply intended to let sellers know about an alternative specialist platform where they may be able to reach more potential buyers.

We understand that unsolicited marketing messages aren’t for everyone, and we apologise if you found it unwelcome. However, we would like to reassure readers that this is not a “smishing” scam. The message does not ask for any personal, banking or sensitive information. It simply invites sellers to visit our website if they wish to advertise their vehicle.

Our platform is used by genuine buyers and sellers across the UK, and we’re continually working to improve both our service and the experience for our customers.

We appreciate your feedback and wish you all the best with the sale of your campervan.

Best regards,
The Life With A Van Team

Hi Luke,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

We’re sorry that our Facebook message gave you cause for concern. Life With A Van is a genuine UK marketplace dedicated to buying and selling campervans, and we occasionally reach out to people who have publicly advertised their vehicles to let them know about our specialist platform.

We completely understand that receiving an unexpected message can make people cautious, and we always encourage potential customers to do their own research before using any service.

While we’re disappointed that you formed an opinion before trying our platform, we’d like to reassure readers that Life With A Van is a legitimate business serving campervan buyers and sellers across the UK. Our advertising packages are clearly priced, and there is never any obligation to use the service.

Thank you for your feedback, and we wish you every success with the sale of your campervan.

Best regards,

Fraud

I, too, stupidly suffered the same experience as most of your Reviewers. I was contacted by an anonymous text suggesting that I advertise on this site. As soon as the listing went live I was contacted by several supposed interested potential buyers, all of whom wanted a Vehicle Check Report from a particular site, which I eventually did, costing £39,99 for the basic report, taking this money from my account promising a report to follow. No report ever followed.
A company called Metaswift appeared on my bank statement as the recipient. A friend had the same experience, and two men arrived, distracted him, then had a test drive with him driving (??) ended with smoke belching from exhaust and bonnet, with engine compartment covered in black oil. He was so distraught that he agreed to receive just a minimal sum for scrap. They took his car away, and low and behold, re-taxed the very next day. Everyone I spoke to new of this scam except my friend and I!!! I'm told the scam involves them squirting old oil up the cold exhaust, into the coolant reservoir and all over the engine compartment.
SELLER BEWARE!!!

Hi,

We’re really sorry to hear about your experience – that sounds incredibly frustrating and upsetting.

We want to make it absolutely clear that we have no involvement whatsoever with these scams or the individuals contacting sellers. Unfortunately, like many online marketplaces, there are people who attempt to target sellers by posing as buyers and directing them to third-party “vehicle check” websites or arranging suspicious viewings. These are well-known scams across multiple platforms, not just ours.

We would never ask or require sellers to purchase any kind of report through a specific website, and any buyer requesting this should be treated as suspicious. We always advise sellers to avoid making payments to third-party sites suggested by unknown buyers and to report any suspicious activity to us immediately so we can take action.

We’re actively working to monitor and reduce this kind of behaviour on the platform, and reports like yours genuinely help us do that. We’d also strongly recommend reporting the incident to your bank and to Action Fraud, as they may be able to investigate further.

Again, we’re really sorry this happened to you and your friend, and we appreciate you raising awareness so others can stay vigilant.

Hi Dee,

Thanks for your feedback.

From time to time we reach out to people who have advertised their campervan or motorhome on other marketplaces to let them know there are additional places they can promote their vehicle. Many sellers appreciate the suggestion as it helps them reach more potential buyers.

Listing on Life With A Van simply gives sellers another platform where thousands of campervan buyers are actively searching. As with any marketplace, the number of views and enquiries can vary depending on factors such as the vehicle, price, photos and current demand.

Many vehicles listed on the site receive strong interest and sell successfully, though of course results can differ from listing to listing.

We’re sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you this time, but we do appreciate you giving the platform a try and wish you the best with your sale.

WARNING to others

We fell for the text after putting van on Gumtree suggesting we advertise on this site.
Since then we’ve had numerous enquires all showing interest and then asking for vehicle report to be bought by us at our cost and sent to them they send a link to these ‘sites’ Please DO NOT, fall for it appears a lot of these vehicle check sites aren’t genuine, double & triple check before doing anything on these vehicle check sites

Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience, however the situation you’ve described is unfortunately a common scam that occurs across many online marketplaces, including Gumtree, Facebook Marketplace, eBay and others.

These messages are not sent by us or through our platform, and we have no involvement in those third-party “vehicle report” websites. Scammers often target people who have advertised vehicles online and attempt to move conversations off the original platform, which is exactly what appears to have happened here.

We would never ask sellers to purchase vehicle reports or send links to external services, and any requests like this should be treated as suspicious.

We work hard to maintain a genuine marketplace and encourage users to remain cautious of unsolicited messages from unknown buyers. Given that this activity was carried out by unrelated third parties and not our platform, we would kindly ask that you reconsider the review, as it does not reflect the service we provide.

I feel I have been scammed

I feel I have been scammed. I received an SMS shortly after listing my camper from someone pretending to be a contact. The van community means that I do have random contacts out there who would send me this type of message.

As I was looking for a quick sale, I explored the option and decided to give it a try. The listing attracted less than a third of the footfall of the market leaders and didn't generate a single lead.

I did get a successful sale through Autotrader- don't waste your money on these guys.

Terrible underhanded sales tactics from these guys. I wish I had read the reviews beforehand. Avoid.

We’re sorry to hear you didn’t get the result you hoped for. We’re a genuine marketplace for campervans and every listing goes live on our site for buyers to see. Sometimes interest depends on the type of camper, pricing, and demand at the time, and while many sellers do get leads, it can take longer for some campervans to attract attention.

We understand your frustration and don’t want you to feel out of pocket. Please contact us directly at contact@lifewithavan.com so we can review your case and arrange a refund.

We sometimes use direct messaging to potential buyers and sellers as part of our marketing, but they’re never intended to mislead. All our ads are genuine, and we only ever direct people to our official site where listings are live for buyers to see. We understand direct messages are not for everyone and respect your choice, but we’re proud to be a marketplace helping private campervan sellers connect with buyers.

Another fake message on FB Marketplace

So i ALSO have just received a DM on my facebook market place advert saying - 'Id recommend putting this up on lifewithavan.com, to be honest if this isnt on there for that price it should be an easy sell' This is exactly the same message otheres have been getting according the reviews, so with that type of cold caller marketing i would leave this well alone!

Thanks for your feedback. We sometimes reach out directly to sellers on platforms like Facebook to let them know about our site, it’s one of the ways we grow awareness as a newer marketplace. The message you received was genuine, not a scam, and the only aim is to highlight another place to advertise to get more exposure for your advert.

We understand that not everyone appreciates direct marketing, and we’ll take your comments on board as we refine how we reach out. What matters most is that we’re a real marketplace, and listings on our site are visible to genuine buyers every day.

We sometimes reach out to sellers on platforms like eBay to let them know about Life With A Van, as we’re still growing and many people haven’t heard of us yet. Our messages are an invitation to consider an alternative place to advertise, not a guarantee of a sale. While no marketplace can promise a “definite” sale, our aim is to give sellers more visibility and another route to potential buyers.

Hi, thanks for your feedback. Some of our affiliates reach out to campervan sellers to let them know about the platform.
