IONOS employs predatory auto-renewal practices by locking accounts into full-year commitments without flexibility, tacking on a €15.13 charge for an internal proprietary feature ("Domain Guard") and an immediate €3.90 reminder fee for a total exceeding €103. When contacted immediately following invoice generation to seek a fair resolution, customer support categorically refused any goodwill adjustment or cancellation of the add-on, enforcing these predatory billing terms over basic customer fairness. Then they threaten to enforce debt collectors. Look anywhere besides their site and you'll see that no real customer is happy. Unless you want to waste your time, and money, and still end up locked out, go elsewhere.

A company who just don't care. I have now been waiting two weeks for these cowboys to transfer my domain to a new webspace supplier. They put EVERY obstacle in the mix. Their service is abysmal and they just don't care. Look on Facebook and see the number of unhappy customers trying to get them to sort out messes they have created. Totally unprofessional, incompetent and uncaring

We've been hosting my family's small English language school website with IONOS for years, on their "Website 5.0" plan - a base fee ("Grundgebühr") of only about €10/month. That should have been close to the whole story. Instead, our actual bill was split across several other separate line items stacked on top: two "PHP Extended Support" add-ons (charged just to keep old, end-of-life PHP versions running), a "Locals Basic" business listing product at around €25/month, and a "Mywebsite Business" add-on at €15/month - none of which we remembered actively signing up for. Individually a few of these looked small enough to ignore, but together they pushed the real monthly total to around €81/month, nearly €1,000 a year, for a small brochure site that should have cost a fraction of that.

We ended up migrating both domains and hosting to another provider entirely. Once we added up all the real costs, we're saving close to €900/year for equivalent service, with none of the confusing add-on structure.

To be fair, our sites stayed online the whole time, and I'm sure somewhere, at some point, we technically agreed to all of this. But that's kind of the problem. Splitting everything into a dozen tiny charges that never show up together as one number, quietly keeping legacy add-ons running without ever checking if you still need them, and then building a cancellation process that traps you instead of letting you leave, none of that feels accidental. It feels like a system built to keep people paying for things they don't need and never really understood they were paying for. My parents run this business, and honestly, this is exactly the kind of thing that catches people like them off guard.

So if you're already an IONOS customer, do yourself a favor and actually go look at every single recurring charge on your account, not just the main "hosting" line. Check what each one really is. Don't assume your bill only contains what you think it does.

Better: Use Wordpress + Elementor + independent hosting. The monthly cost will be around 10-15 Euros ;)

Dear Mr. Markus Noga and IONOS Customer Service,

The reliability of IONOS has deteriorated to an unacceptable level. The problems are no longer something that only I notice as the customer: my own website visitors are now reporting that after browsing only a few pages, they are blocked from accessing the site.

I have a premium hosting subscription, yet the actual reliability of the service has fallen to what I would estimate at below 10%. The website may work for a while, but then becomes inaccessible again, apparently due to firewall-related issues. This is particularly serious because, when the firewall problem occurs, FTP file uploads are effectively impossible. For a website that is actively maintained and regularly updated, this makes normal operation extremely difficult.

What is even more disappointing is the attitude of the customer service. Previously, I could at least report the problems and receive a response. Now, my reports and complaints are increasingly being ignored, and in some cases I receive no meaningful response at all. The technical problems are simply left unresolved.

I am paying for a premium service and expect, at the very least, a stable connection, reliable access to my website and functioning FTP services. Instead, I am experiencing repeated outages, firewall-related blocking and an increasingly unresponsive support service.

This is not the level of reliability or customer service I would expect from a premium hosting provider, and in my opinion it is unacceptable business practice.

IONOS urgently needs to address these technical problems and, just as importantly, take its customers' reports seriously instead of simply ignoring recurring issues.
