I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Electric Kiwi so far.
I moved from my previous provider and gave them the required one month’s notice. During that notice period, I specifically arranged with Electric Kiwi to have our WiFi connected on a particular date to ensure that my family would not be left without internet. I was assured that everything would be connected as arranged.
However, on the day my old provider disconnected our service, Electric Kiwi suddenly had a number of different explanations as to why our WiFi was not connected. One customer service agent told me that we would be connected that Friday evening between 6:30 pm and midnight. We waited, but nothing happened.
The following Saturday, I contacted Electric Kiwi again to find out why we were still without WiFi. This time, I was told that Northpower needed to clear our network line and that they only operate Monday to Friday, meaning we would have to wait until Monday.
On Monday, I contacted Northpower myself, only to be told that Electric Kiwi had not even sent through the required order for them to do anything.
When I went back to Electric Kiwi for an explanation, I was given yet another excuse that simply did not make sense. Instead of taking responsibility for what appears to be an error on their side, I feel like I have been given one story after another and very little acknowledgement or apology for the inconvenience caused.
We have now been without WiFi for five days. My family is being seriously inconvenienced because of something that could have been avoided if the connection had been properly arranged when promised.
What disappoints me most is not only the delay itself, but the lack of accountability and empathy. Mistakes can happen, but customers deserve honesty, clear communication, and a genuine apology when those mistakes cause significant inconvenience.
Is this really how Electric Kiwi treats new customers? We are simply expected to accept being left without internet for days and move on, despite being promised that our connection would be ready?
I am extremely upset and disappointed with the service and the way this situation has been handled. Definitely not the experience I expected when switching to a new provider. I’m already regretting my decision.
Worst company in Nz they say they are not the fat cats but they are , they will try and screw your credit rating over a late payment
Nasty people working for a nasty company and I would avoid them at all costs
They are rude , hard to use website almost Impossible to log in and pay
So yes worst company in New Zealand

This company is run by very few employees who all seem to be drongos. Don't even have a contact number. Almost doubled their prices just a month after signing up. Never again.

So just to give context here - I was excited to join electric kiwi for their 1 hour free power! Little did i know they were charging me 41c for both day and night rates and my bills were skyrocketing! On top of that we pay for gas so I almost needed another job to pay for my power bills!!! Ive since done a comparison with other companies and their rates are well below this lot! Will always check my rates in the future but goodby and good riddance electric kiwi!

Such a horrible company. Their time response is incredibly slow, relying purely on AI. So frustrating dealing with them.

Electric Kiwi has been an absolute nightmare to deal with. I gave them the required month’s notice to close my account, yet they still took $250 from my card after I explicitly told them not to. Other reviewers warned they keep charging even after you leave, so I ended up cancelling my credit card to protect myself.
Trying to get a refund has been a complete circus. There is no phone number to call, and their chat support is useless. I’ve contacted them three times, sent my account details twice, and every time they blame “finance”, “operations”, or — my favourite — a “system glitch”. Funny how the glitch only works one way: they can take money instantly, but somehow can’t refund it.
Today their support person even directed me to UDL, which makes absolutely no sense and shows how disorganised they are. It has now been over a month, and they still haven’t returned my money. The final insult was being told they need “48 hours turnaround time” — after ignoring me for weeks.
Electric Kiwi has no accountability, no customer service, and no respect for people’s time or money. And to be honest they are not much cheaper either.

After trying different power provider for 10 years I can confirm Electric kiwi are the best price in New Zealand. I chose 1 hour Free everyday and it works very well. I also chose the $1.15 included GST FEE a day and is totally the best deal for me,,, Thank you so much Electric KIWI you have charge la life saving with my power .

Would give 0 stars if I could! This company does not have proper systems in place to protect New Zealanders. DONT NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Someone opened an account with them under my name. Most untrustworthy company with no real customer service I have no choice but to get a lawyer.

Worst power company ever.
Massively overcharged us by direct debit of 4 1/2 thousand.
Absolutely no customer service. Took months to get a refund. Terrible wouldn’t go near them with barge pole

The worst and intrusive company ever. They ask you to provide multiple ID to verify yourself and says in the following up email that they can’t find my credit information and asked me to provide passport and other ID by 5pm on Saturday which is today! Otherwise they will reject me. I laughed! I replied haha funny company. And within an hour they emailed me how they found out I have debt that they can’t provide services to me. Oh yeah, right. You found a debt I owe. What a stupid company. Who the f do you think you are? You didn’t find shit, you are run most likely by some moron who have high opinion about themselves and know exactly how to piss off clients.

If I could put Zero stars I would, absolute rip offs with a non existent customer service. Been a customer for years and the rates have tripled in 4 years. No looking after loyal customers just keep upping the rates and hoping their customers won't notice! I see they are quick to reply to reviews on this website but cant callback or reply when requested online. This company is a joke. Do not use

I transferred to this company 2 weeks ago, power ok but my phone connection (e-sim) does not work anymore after 20 emails (no other option to communicate) and instructions to resolve. Very clumsy and impractical resolution approach for a customer with adhoc instructions from a paint by by numbers approach with no accountability from their end. I would not recommend them at this point and reminds me of the years gone by dealing with incompetent Telcos. Be warned!

Poor communication and then put onto the wrong plan - not the plan I requested.
When asked ElectricKiwi stated - Ah okay, the join page does default to this plan, so it may have been the issue
Advice - Check your account
Be prepared to spend a lot of time trying to help them get it right

Would have given 0 stars if possible. Incredibly frustrating to try and get in contact with, will take 3x the amount straight out of your account with out warning and take over a week to get it back to you even though it was a "system error" on their end.
It's not cheap like everyone thinks, I was with geniuses and decided to change to electric kiwi and my power bill has increased 25%.... which also has free hours you can choose to save up, every "perk" these guys have others also have. This company is a joke

Electric Kiwi have got increasingly expensive over the years, we are a household of 2 adults and 3 children in a 130sqm home and we have had power bills up to $660 a month. Recently had two $650 power bills back to back so $1300 for 2 months of power!! We recently requested to move properties and were told they would need to wait for a payment of $144 to clear prior to considering my request. I had just paid $800 1 week prior to bring my account up to date. Account had not been updated to show we no longer were on a payment plan and really they just make you feel like a peasant when you struggle to afford their high prices! A company that uses leverage tactics. Expensive. Difficult to deal with. We have decided to move power company and will not be looking back! Also good luck with their customer service, the chat is painful and timely.

Worst Telco experience in my 50+ years, personal a business. Avoid like Covid!!!
Faceless company you can't call who hide behind messaging and cut you off when the end of shift bell rings.
3 weeks without internet which cost us money and time and once they ran out of ideas they blamed Enable and logged a job with them but never heard back.
We rang another company (Kiwiwifi.nz) and spoke to a real person in NZ who had us up and running in 2 days so draw your own conclusions on the many excuses, lack of service and complete incompetence of Electric Kiwi!!!
Reply 15/6/26 - Thanks for taking the time to reply.
1) Only gutted party was us as your team drained our bank accounts (mobile excess data bills) and took personal time from family wasting hours on LiveChat only to be cut off and then have to start all over. Electric Kiwi didn't genuinely care about us so would suggest removing Kiwi from your name.
2) Use all the excuses you want but it just stopped and a new modem, same ONT, many resets and hours of chat didn't fix. New company personally dropped off their modem and had us up and running within hours.... personal & professional service!
3) Know we will just be another customer forgotten by Electric Kiwi as you pin this reply to your cafe dartboard but we will pass on the word through our extensive NZ networks and help Kiwis avoid the same mistakes as we shouldn't have been treated like that when there was a solution, but you couldn't be bothered finding it.

I found it incredibly hard trying to set up a payment plan with electric kiwi while in hardship. I had set up a payment plan twice, and both times I was charged the full bill amount and not the payment plan agreed, and sent two disconnection notices.
Then made a complaint which was emailed back as resolved before they had emailed me their resolution which hadn’t been answered fully, but stating that my new plan was in fact active and ready to go. Then two days after that, the full bill amount was attempted again! And received another disconnection notice.
After emailing again asking why, the answered that it was an auto email but didn’t answer the reason the full amount was attempted out of my account.
Honestly so frustrating and like talking to a brick wall. Terrible customer service

Terrible service. Paid manual credit card payment and get email from them saying declined but showed it's gone out of my bank and to them. Over a month of arguing with it. Sending emails everything. No reply. The. I get told yes it went on then shows it went off and wasn't put back on. So I paid and never came off the account. Power changes without doing anything diff and I mean majorly. Wasn't even home one day but $19 for a day used...but a day home with heat pump dishwasher and dryer on and it's only $11 used. Nothing makes sense but when bills alter from $250-$600 in a month with no changes and manual payments missed...
And then the final straw was them trying to take money out on days not arranged. Was for every Thurs but I would get Thurs, then a Tuesday, then maybe a wed etc and they would break the agreement as money wasn't in there...it wasn't the right day that's why. They wanted $200 a week for power when power bills only $90. Said financially cannot do that and they didn't care. I gave up avoid at all costs. I'm taking this further for them to be be audited
