Easy to order, arrived promptly

Very polite and helpful. order arrived quickly. Not impressed with the delivery service - parcel very heavy just left at front door. Other drivers have lifted the parcel in the porch for me.

Very disappointing experience, both with the product l ordered and the Customer Service response when l phoned to complain.

Briefly, l ordered a large volume of Niger Seed, for feeding to my flock of canaries. As well as eating the dried seed, the birds love to receive it germinated: that is, soaked in water overnight, rinsed over the next couple of days, and served up when it’s sprouting and full of growing energy. This is especially important during the breeding season, when it provides an easily digested source of nourishment for the chicks.

Well, the seed failed to sprout. Instead, it rotted and gave off an unpleasant smell, so l couldn’t risk feeding it to the birds.

I realise that some seed is treated so any that any offered to wild birds that drops onto lawns won’t germinate and spoil the monoculture, but such seed is usually clearly labelled as such. This wasn’t.

I phoned GardenBird to report my experience, and to ask whether the seed had in fact been treated to prevent germination. The chap who handled the call told me he’d only been with the company for a week, but was nonetheless very effective at letting me know they couldn’t care less whether they were selling dead seed or not. He read me off a generic disclaimer from treated seed labelling, which in no way clarified whether the stuff l’d been sent was treated or not.

No offer to look into the matter, ask a more experienced colleague, pass my query up the line— not even any regrets. Meanwhile I’m left with a bin full of dry matter that may have been irradiated, destroying any of its original food value. Absolutely disgusted!

I ordered suet blocks, suet pellets and sunflower seeds. All excellent quality and the birds love them.
