Took the 7 day free trial and thought it had promise. Made a so-called placement video as I am not a rank beginner and was unsure of where to start. But now I find out that getting feedback from video exchange will easily take more than a month. In the free trial they don't let you look at the chat which they call shoutbox. If I had seen that probably would not have joined as almost all the messages (of which there are very few) are about when the person might expect feedback on a submitted video. Looks like at most you would get feedback 5 or six times in a year. It's not very expensive though and you do get access to pieces in the public domain that it would take time to find elsewhere. The lessons have some use but are not interactive at all.

BEWARE of the invisible fine print.

Watched a promotional webinar and was interested in taking a course. I received a 50% off promotional email, so spent a couple of days checking out the instructors. (You have to pick a course before you sign up).

When I selected a course and went to pay, the 50% code was "no longer valid" even though there were no conditions or expiration date indicated on the email. Reached out to Dan in customer service who said I could use the existing 40% off code and they'd reimburse me the 10%. Neither the link on the 40% off email nor the code worked when I went to check out. Contacted Dan again. He informed me that the course I wanted to take wasn't "eligible". Sent him a screenshot of the email that clearly reads, "We're giving you 40% off ANY plan...." No caveats. No fine print.

Dan admitted that it was a "marketing" mistake, but said he had no ability to honour their promotion. In other words, ArtistWorks doesn't stand behind their advertising. For a course that runs several hundred dollars, I want a reputable company that lives up to it's word. Now I'm seeing that they don't respond to negative reviews, so I don't expect that they do anything to support their customers when there's a problem.

If you're willing to press your luck give it a chance. I'm not.

The company does not seem honest

When I signed up, it gave me a 7 day trial and the website indicated $143.94 billed annual. However, the amount in the invoice was $172.73. I don't feel the company is honest.

I signed up for a 14-day free trial of jazz drumming lessons. When I decided it wasn't for me and decided to cancel, I submitted my request and never received a confirmation. When I tried to confirm via phone and email, the numbers and address on their website were not correct. Basically, there was no way to contact them. So I have not received my refund in accordance with their free trial offer.

2 Mandolin Courses

I’m on my second year of Mandolin lessons at ArtistWorks. First year I pretty much completed Sierra Hull’s course. Even though I’m intermediate, she likes students to start with the beginner lessons and I’m glad I did. She is an excellent ( Grammy nominated ) artist and teacher.
Now I’m in the middle of Mike Marshall’s Mando course.
Also excellent teacher.
Both Sierra and Mike have much different ways of teaching but IMO both are really great.
Highly recommended !

Unauthorized charge and cancellation request – Immediate refund required

Dear ArtistWorks Support,

I am writing regarding an unauthorized charge on my bank account.

I have only one active subscription with ArtistWorks:

Jazz Drums with Peter Erskine, which was renewed on December 11, 2025 for €200.39.

Capture d’écran 2026-01-22 à 12.14.40.png

However, I have just noticed a new charge today of €129.17, which I did not authorize.

Capture d’écran 2026-01-22 à 12.16.25.png

When I check my account, I now see a so‑called “Music Theory” subscription.

I want to be absolutely clear: I have never subscribed to this service.

This charge is therefore unauthorized.

I formally request the following:

Immediate cancellation of the “Music Theory” subscription

Immediate refund of €129.17

Written confirmation that no other services will be added to my account without my explicit consent

I only want to keep my Peter Erskine Jazz Drums subscription.

I do not accept being enrolled in any other courses without my approval.

If this refund is not processed immediately, I will:

Cancel my Peter Erskine subscription,

And file a formal complaint with my bank and the relevant consumer protection services for unauthorized billing.

This situation is extremely disappointing and unacceptable. I expect a prompt resolution.

Sincerely,

Sébastien Mirković

Signed up for beginner Flamenco class

Signed up for the flamenco class with the the “world renowned” Noa Drezner. HORRIBLE INSTRUCTOR! One of the first lessons was an Arpeggio warm up scale. She identified the first couple of chords then proceeded to say “and this, and this, and this” to identify chords. I’m a beginner. I wasn’t even able to identify the finger placing on the chords due to the camera angles! A complete rip-off of my money!

I'm so split on ArtistWorks

I'm so split on ArtistWorks. I signed up for a year course on my non-primary instrument, and quickly realized that I'd rather be taking a different course. I emailed them and they moved me over to one that I enjoyed, but I burned through most of the course material pretty quickly. It's in their FAQ that they will change you to a different studio, but only once. Now I'm 2 months into my year without much left to do.

I'm learning mandolin now, and know they have a great mandolin course, but I could only access it by purchasing another subscription. The self-study courses are also good, but are only guitar and bass. I can see how good their courses are, and I'm going to buy that second subscription as a month-to-month, but it's a frustrating model they set up. I wish I could change instructors month-to-month, because as a multi-instrumentalist, I'd get much more out of that, and I wouldn't have to take out a mortgage to do it, haha.

My rating is based on money rather than quality of content.

Video exchange issue

My issue was, in my view, an odd one, but Dan took hold of it, addressed my problem, and got back to me in short order. Problem solved.

I have had a couple of problems that I guessed might be hard to address. Dan took them on, got back to me quickly on all of them, and corrected the issue.

I am very impressed with the quality of support from ArtistWorks. And Dan, you're the best

ArtistWorks is musician-friendly

I have recently enrolled in the 'Eric Marienthal- Jazz Saxophone' online course with ArtistWorks.
The course is well structured and packed with resources, backing tracks and score sheets. The videos are beautifully recorded and informative. Having widely researched other online music courses, I would highly recommend the ArtistWorks one for any musician at any level.

Paul Gilbert guitar school is awesome

Enrolled into the rock online guitar school years ago and I highly recommend it! I find it cheaper than in person guitar classes and I love the idea of video exchanges that allow you to work at your own time.

Picking Progress: How Sierra Hull's Mandolin Course Is Reshaping My Musical Journey

I have been playing the mandolin several years, yet mastery of its fundamentals eluded me, prompting my enrollment in Sierra Hull's Bluegrass Mandolin course for a one-month trial. The course framework necessitates a progression from elementary to complex tunes, beginning at a foundational level. While initially underestimating the beginner’s curriculum, I quickly recognized its value in solidifying my foundational skills. Sierra methodically introduces each tune, allowing students to progress at their pace and submit performance videos for critique. Her timely feedback is instrumental, leveraging her profound expertise to enhance student proficiency. The ability to view the student exchange videos for each tune adds substantial value to the learning experience. Recognized as a premier mandolin instructor, Sierra's approach is characterized by her cheerfulness, precision, and motivational teaching style. The immediate impact and clarity of course benefits led me to opt for the annual subscription, anticipating continued enjoyment and skill enhancement through her guidance.

Super Content and Customer Service

Top-notch lessons for all talent levels and student video feedback from Tony Trischka make the bluegrass banjo course well worth the investment. And ArtistWorks' customer service is great. When I had a small issue with my account, I submitted an inquiry online and Dan corrected it right away. Highly recommend ArtistWorks!

A better online education than you can imagine

I did not know that online education could be this personalized or this effective. The Virtual Exchanges are priceless, yet only cost me a few dollars per submission. I've been submitting once per week, which means over the course of the year, I'll get around 50 personalized responses and feedback from THE Tony Trischka. The man is a legend, and he is sitting down to listen to me play banjo in order to help me become a better banjo player. I can't even begin to tell you how important this past month has been to me as a musician.

If anyone ever asks me who I've studied under, I'll respond, "Tony Trischka," and after looking at me incredulously, they'll say, "no way." And I'll say, "Yes, way. He listens to me play and gives me feedback every week." ArtistWorks has created an online learning environment I did not know was possible.

Artistworks wonderful resource and good CSRs

Artistworks is a wonderful resource. I enjoy learning from the instructors and the website is easy and intuitive to use. I was gifted a membership and then extended for another 6 months. Adding the 6 months via the website turned out to be harder than expected, but after two separate attempts 6 months apart, everything was easily and satisfactorily resolved. The customer service reps are very helpful. I recommend checking and re-checking to make sure everything gets applied properly. If there are issues, customer service does take care of it.

ArtistWorks Lessons and Customer Service are SUPER!

The ArtistWorks fiddle lessons I've completed this year with Darol Anger have been super! He brings such a wealth of experience that almost any problem I've had, he's had a good solution. I play very non-traditionally and Darol has acknowledged that and given alternatives without insisting that I use the traditional method. I'm improving what I've got versus starting over again. Plus, he's VERY encouraging!
I'd also like to offer kudos to ArtistWorks Customer Service. I've had two situations come up due to my misunderstanding. They responded within a day with kind explanations and my problems evaporated. I've never been happier with an Internet experience!

Kick start and Accelerate Your Music Instruction

I love the opportunity to receive lessons from a true professional. My first experience with Tony Trischka was at Midwest Banjo Camp then found Artist Works for my daily guide to excellent instruction. Tony's instruction is personal, He wants you to succeed. From his tutelage I'm playing at audience attended Jams and entertaining at a Retirement Center.
