Disappointing experience after installation – would not recommend
My experience with DHStyling started positively. The team were welcoming, and I appreciated that they went above and beyond to help reattach my registration plate when it came off due to the strong wind and rain. Unfortunately, my experience became increasingly disappointing once the installation was completed.
Before booking, I asked on several occasions whether installing the screen and virtual dashboard could cause any glitches or issues. I also raised this again on the day of my appointment, as I wanted to make sure everything would work properly with my BMW. I was reassured that they had received no reports of such issues, which gave me confidence to proceed. Unfortunately, my experience since the installation has been very different.
I paid £1,170 for the combined screen and virtual dashboard sync kit, along with a reversing camera, for my BMW 3 Series.
At the end of the installation, I raised my concern that the reversing camera image was extremely zoomed in. I was advised that this was how the camera worked and that it was manageable on the unit. However, when using it outside in real driving conditions, the image is so zoomed in that I cannot see clearly enough for it to be useful. I raised this concern at the time, but the explanation provided did not reflect my experience when actually using the camera.
Following the installation, an amber engine management light appeared on my dashboard. This light was definitely not illuminated before I brought my car in. I was told that the new digital dashboard could display a warning that had previously been coded out on the original analogue dashboard. While I understand this may be a possibility, I have not been provided with diagnostic evidence confirming that this is what happened with my vehicle.
I have also experienced issues with Apple CarPlay randomly switching back to the radio, interrupting its use. This did not happen with my original Bluetooth setup. On another occasion, Apple CarPlay froze and remained displayed even after I switched off the ignition, eventually turning off later.
I contacted the business to raise these concerns and seek a resolution. The owner responded regarding the engine management light and offered a 75% refund of the cockpit’s purchase price, subject to a 25% deduction, but declined my request for a full refund. I subsequently raised my additional concerns about the reversing camera and Apple CarPlay, but I have not received a response to that message.
What has disappointed me most is that the initial customer service was positive, but when I raised concerns about the functionality of the products after installation, I did not feel that all my concerns were being properly addressed. I understand that a warning appearing after installation does not automatically prove the installation caused it, but I expected my concerns to be taken seriously and responded to constructively.
Honestly, I wish I had read the reviews before booking. I would encourage anyone considering using this business to read the reviews carefully and take other customers’ experiences into account rather than dismissing them. I asked specifically about potential glitches before committing to the installation, yet I am now dealing with several issues and struggling to get a satisfactory resolution.
Overall, this has been a stressful and disappointing experience, particularly given the £1,170 I paid and the additional time I am having to spend trying to resolve these issues.
Unfortunately, based on my experience, I would not recommend DHStyling. I hope the business takes these concerns seriously and improves both its installation checks and its after-sales support.
