"The Dangerous Commercialization of AI Education in India by Private Institutes" The recent AI Summit controversy, and the subsequent reputation repair advertising, highlights a much larger issue. Credibility in emerging technologies cannot be built through marketing. It is built through outcomes and capability. Across parts of India’s private education sector, AI is being packaged and sold much like MBA programs were years ago, with promises of career security, premium positioning, and aspirational placement narratives. The reality, however, is more complex. A large portion of AI knowledge today is accessible through open resources. The real differentiator should be mentorship, problem-solving exposure, and industry integration, not just infrastructure, branding, or partnerships used for perception. Students are often led to believe that enrolling in an AI course automatically improves employability. It doesn’t. Technology rewards competence, not certification. An enterprising student with curiosity and a builder mindset can often learn faster through self-driven projects and real-world experimentation than through heavily marketed programs lacking depth. This is not about institutions vs students. It is about substance vs hype. The future will not belong to those who “took an AI course.” It will belong to those who can build, adapt, and solve problems. Because hype fades. Content quality will be the game changer in an age where neverending AI slop is rapidly increasing social media fatigue even as zero click search and AI overviews and LLM usage have changed user behaviour. interestingly web visits minus social ecom and the dodgy stuff have grown globally, and Google Discover amounts to almost 70% of all web traffic. Yes , Discover, that news feed that people now doomscroll rather than their socials feed. How the internet reinvents and rehashes is simply amazing. Text Chat is back, albeit in a different package and so is the open web. How exciting!!! Thanks exchange4media and Kanchan Srivastava for airing my views.
