Jake O'Driscoll شارك ذلكŠKODA is woven into the fabric of Ireland. So we made the fabric. Over three metres of it, hand-sewn with around 50 stories from Irish life, if we’re being precise. The Tapestry for Ireland, built from over 7.5km of thread, 48 different fabrics and hundreds of hours of extraordinary craft from eileen mcnulty. It’s no wonder, then, that it’s taken years to get out of our heads and into the world. It holds the mythic and the mundane in the same frame. Because Ireland is as much ancient stones, old stories and airport goodbyes as it is watching another apartment block go up, or traffic on the M50 (which is why you should NEVER leave Stoneybatter). eileen mcnulty, thank you for trusting us with your extraordinary talent. For taking a fairly outrageous ask and meeting it with kindness, patience and a level of craft that made the idea better than we could have imagined. Jess Murphy and Jessica Newman, you, as always, were fucking brilliant. You gave this thing taste, nerve and ridiculous care. Every inch of it is better because of you two. And Sára Benkő, Caroline Keogh, Derek Doyle and everyone else at Boys + Girls who helped push, shape, solve and carry it along the way, thank you. Work like this takes far more hands than ever make it into the neat version of the story. Then came the small matter of getting three metres of hand-sewn Ireland out into Ireland. The brilliant teams at Circle Content and EXP helped turn one very delicate artwork into a campaign people could actually experience, while Harry Rhys Thomas photographed it with the eye for detail and craft that matched the piece itself. No easy task when every thread matters, and something you can see for yourself up close and personal in the T1 Skybridge at Dublin Airport if you're not running too-too late. And finally, to Ciara Breen, Raymond Leddy and everyone else at Škoda Ireland, ideas like this are fragile for a very long time. They need clients willing to protect them, fight for them and obsess over details nobody else will ever know were difficult. You did all three, with the trust, patience and nerve it took to make this properly. It has been a privilege to be one more pair of hands in a team that continues to make great work for Ireland, rather than simply adding more noise to it. This one’s going straight to the pool room...

In a collaboration with artist Eileen McNulty, we’ve created the Tapestry for Ireland, weaving together over 50 unique scenes and stories from around the country with more than 48 unique fabrics and 7km of thread. Jake O'Driscoll شارك ذلكMost people think skin cancer is something that happens in sunny countries. I did too. Growing up in New Zealand, under a giant f***ing hole in the ozone layer, I was used to worrying about burning there. Ireland, where summer is fleeting and even a cloudy day is a good excuse to wear my favourite t-shirt, never felt like somewhere you needed to worry. But Ireland has higher skin cancer rates than many of the sunny destinations we escape to every summer. And skin cancer is the most common cancer in the country. That gap between perception and reality is the type of stuff we're all drawn to in our line of work. After coming back from holidays and winding up my pasty colleagues, a department slagging session became a quick sketch on my sketch pad, a rough Photoshop play around and, thanks to Dean Ryan believing in the idea and driving it forward, Mole Maps of Ireland was born for the Marie Keating Foundation Add in some banging headlines from Jack Walsh, and soon we were using national skin cancer data to turn the outline of every county in Ireland into its own bespoke melanoma. Thirty-two counties. Thirty-two moles. Each one showing people that skin cancer isn’t just a problem somewhere sunnier. A huge thank you to everyone else who has helped bring it to life so far. Too many names to list, but you know who you are. This is just the beginning, launching, ironically, during one of the sunniest Irish summers in years. So, watch this space. Massive congratulations to the 9 Finalists from MDS and 5 from AUT who received in-person feedback from the judges themselves on Tuesday. The student finalists will be resubmitting their entries in response to that feedback shortly, from which the judges will then pick the 3 Grand Finalists who will move forward for judging by the 2027 Axis executive judges, with the winner being announced at the 2027 Axis Award Show early next year. It was also a brilliant experience judging the awards down in Kinsale last week. Some great discussions in the jury room and it was really nice running into so many industry folk down in the beautiful setting of West Cork 🦈 🦈 🦈 🦈

The impact of our cancer support and survivorship services has grown enormously with our nursing team engaging with more than 22,000 people throughout the country and our influence as a trusted charity extending further. With the guidance of our Board, hard work and commitment of our amazing team, and support from an army of volunteers, donors and supporters, we were privileged to be able to help thousands of people and their families throughout the year. Providing people with clear, accessible information and advice will allow them to make informed decisions about their health and eliminate the fear that might deter individuals from seeking help. Loeries 2025 – Design category – What I see and think. When we analysed this year’s results, something fascinating stood out: Middle Eastern agencies converted around 62% of their Design finalists into medals. South African agencies? Around 18%. That’s a striking gap. Why is this? My hunch: storytelling, strategy and packaging. The Middle Eastern agencies are presenting their design work with the clarity, craft and emotional persuasion of an ad campaign. The work is strong ~ but so is the narrative around the work. South Africa continues to produce beautiful, grounded, brand-building design - but perhaps we’re not always selling the story as powerfully as we design the solution. Either way, the signal is clear: craft alone doesn’t always carry across the jury table – story and context do. Perhaps this additional stat will also raise some brows: 90% of the ME wins in design came from advertising agencies. 60% of the SA wins coming from 'design studios'. #Loeries2025 #Design #BrandDesign #CreativeEffectiveness #SouthAfrica #MiddleEast #DesignStorytelling #SluggingItOutOnStage
