I use UP card when I travel overseas. Seamless fee free transactions. I haven't checked the conversion rate but it seems well regarded in ither review sites and offers advice and incentives for savings goals. I have a digital and physical card. Backed by bendigo bank which is another thing in its favour and they are proactive against fraudulent transactions. I wouldn't trust the negative reviews from my perdonal experience.

DO NOT USE

DO NOT USE!
Had my account cancelled without any prior notice or anything due to breaking their terms and conditions with a transaction that they deemed suspicious when it was just a normal transaction, locked my funds behind a id verification that never gets accepted,

Every response in ther live chat or emails is the same generic response of pretty much we can't help you as you violated our terms but no explanation of why it did as same transaction through a real bank is fine,

All in all just a scam that takes your account away for no reasoning other then they didn't trust the transaction,

If i could give 0 stars i would.

Disappointed is an understatement!!!

It's unfortunate that your not able to give zero stars. I used to sing UpBanks praise's. For a very long time i had nothing but good things to say about them. If there was ever a time i had any issues they resolved the problem quickly and efficiently.....but all good things must come to and end......had my account frozen without any prior notice, no courtesy message or phone call....it took them 3 days to finally tell me why my account had been frozen and due to "suspicious activity" the investigation would take 4 weeks....I honestly am not able to justify how its ok to deny a person access to their money for that amount of time. I wasnt even given the opportunity to withdraw any money so i could survive whilst carrying out this so called investigation. I have never been treated so appallingly in my life. The complete lack of empathy is disgusting, how can you honestly justify that its ok to not allow a person access to their own money for 4 weeks, UpBank couldnt care less no matter how hard you try to express the devastating psychological, emotional, mental and financial implications their decision is going to have on you they just treat you as if you are irrelevant. What they suggest is to go get help from welfare organisations, food banks, yeah thats all well and good but how do I even get to these organisations i cant use my bankcard and i dont have any money on me because you won't allow me to the right to access my own money. I was taken a back to see how many people they have done this to but then again it doesn't surprise me either. I would hands down say some of the worst customer service i have ever had to deal with

I highly discourage using Up Bank

I highly discourage using Up Bank. They block your transactions unreasonably when trying to use your money online. You have no way to withdraw your money at ATM either as they have no partnership with anyone. So basically they just keep your money lock and decide how you can used it, not yourself.

Up money has blocked my account b

Up money has blocked my account because of account verification.
I have up money installed on a few devices, I was travelling and came to find out they had blocked my account.
To verify my account, i need to use the same device i was using at home!

Why do they allow multiple devices if they wont allow you to verify on another.
I cant transfer the money even to another account.
All contact is via chat. Takes 35 mins between chats to speak to someone.

I will be shutting my account down.
If you cant access your own money when you need, why do you need a bank like this. THey have my money hostage.

I will be lodging an AFCA complaint for the theft that has happened.

DO NOT bank with these cowboys

2 months in a row interest doesn't come in time. Not just me referred friends & same thing. Sent my money elsewhere & then found out they didn't send it, just kept my money & wouldn't pay any interest. Customer service quote some dodgy terms if they reject your transfer they aren't liable. Total shambles of a bank owned by the commonwealth which makes a fortune scamming ordinary people.

Up bank is supposedly an all digital…

Up bank is supposedly an all digital bank. However, I am partially disabled, Because I own some rural land that is deemed by the government to place me over the assets threshold for any government assistance. In an effort to earn a living I am constantly on the lookout for online work that pays as well as possible to give me a semblance of normal life.
Unfortunately this has on occasion put me in the path of certain undesirable elements. UP bank in their wisdom, cut me off from using my card for any online purpose whatsoever. So when I found a site that asked for a $2.99 subscription I couldn't subscribe to view any work that might suit my situation. Thanks to the fraud group at Up bank for their lack of total support. Digital has taken on a hollow meaning for me since this experience. If you are looking for a bank with an open mind about earning in the digital marketplace this isn't the bank for you. In fact if you want to be completely let down. This is the bank for you. Best of luck.

I have been using UP Bank for sometime now and I just had my card hacked for about the 6th time. I liked this card as I travel a lot and has Wise connected to it but this is too much now. Never had this issue with any other banking institutions.

Only wish I could give zero stars

Only wish I could give zero stars. INCOMPETENT customer service. Will categorically not assist when there is a problem. Chat service is obnoxious, condescending with the combined brain power of a pot plant. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Completely unconcerned by breaches of the Corporations Act 2001, and ASIC regulations.

Best bank

Best bank! Always finding innovative ways to make managing money easy. They also find fun ways to reward us as well. Interest rate is great and being able to have many saving accounts is incredible. As well as seperate account for bills, put the money in and up does the rest

Requires too much personal data to sign up, beyond what's necessary for verification

Requires a selfie to "verify your identity". There's no reason for this for identification purposes. Any product that requires information outside of the minimum for identification verification is a red flag. YOU are the product if they are asking for data that goes beyond standard PII. If the government doesn't need a selfie to verify my identity, then this bank shouldn't.

Pretty useless all around services

Pretty useless all around services. Garbage would recommend going with any others bank. Other than these guys. They don't even have their own banking licence. They use Bendigos. Definitely would not recommend as a bank to use.

Incapable staff and rely on technology rather than personal service for everything to cut costs.

Account closed despite legitimate business

Account closed after making legitimate transfers to a regulated Australian cryptocurrency exchange.

No fraud, no scam, no unusual behaviour — just lawful use of my own money. Instead of addressing this with reasonable safeguards or customer communication, Up chose to block payments and then close the account entirely, citing “risk appetite”.

It’s disappointing to see a bank that markets itself as modern and customer-centric resort to blanket de-banking rather than nuanced risk management. Preventing customers from accessing lawful financial services is not “protection” — it’s restriction.

If you intend to invest in crypto or value financial autonomy, be aware that your account may be closed without wrongdoing or meaningful recourse.

useless

I asked them for a banking declaration for a visa application. There were strict instructions that the document had to comply with - nothing crazy, account type and totals funds, that kind of thing. After completing the request incorrectly three separate times, they said they couldn’t edit their documents to make one that complied. Completely useless. I’ll be closing my account and moving back to CommBank.

Beware - they're asking you to give your face print to get a bank account

You can't get a bank account without taking a selfie of yourself - the new way for face recognition software to steal your identity and another form of data mining to be sold off, stolen, etc. Apparently as they are digital platform they need it - surprisingly I have other digital platforms including a bank that don't need it. Buyer beware.

For those, who think I'm paranoid - what do you use your face for? Some people use their face to gain access to their phones, their cars, their houses, etc. And while I'm sure they will say they keep this data safe - how often have big companies been compromised by not protecting our data - Optus, Qantas, in recent memory and as for banks - CommBank, Westpac, ANZ, and NAB.

Great support

As an older person, I found the Up approach a bit weird but I'm used to it now. I travelled in Europe for a month and found the card excellent. We had a problem with an automated fuel pump which took 150 Euros when it wasn't supposed to. I called the Up people and they resolved it in 45 minutes and had the money back in my account.
Our travel friends were using other cards and got absolutely hammered taking money from ATMs. Up doesn't do that.
I saw a review about a mortgage issue and have no experience of other services, but I'm happy that Up doesn't link with Bitcoin!

Big banks are better

Big banks are better

A digital bank that restricts all payments to crypto exchanges. It's 2025 and young people invest in Bitcoin. Putting a blanket-wide ban on this puts you behind big banks.

Refinanced a home loan with Up Bank

Refinanced a home loan with Up Bank. What a nightmare!

The application went smoothly up until it went to their lawyers' MSA.

After 44 Days of: - Document requests (they requested the same document 3 times!) - stuff ups (too many to count - had to keep scheduling a JP to certify yet another document) - sheer incompetence (sent us on wild goose chases with our insurers that wasn't required)

After making a complaint, both MSA and Upbank started taking it seriously, and we finally got a settlement!

Only... the surplus funds we requested - haven't arrived. So we're paying interest on money we don't even have! Upbank don't seem at all concerned.

Someone from Upbank said they were investigating compensation options weeks ago – but I never heard back from them.

The sting of finding that MSA lawyers passed along a $10 "service" charge! Also, they decided not to wear the $500 title office charges - despite the god awful "service" provided.

All up with the discharge fees - we're not even saving money this year by refinancing.

Massively regret ever taking on this endeavour. No sense of customer service. Always quick with an apology & admitting fault - but no offer to make it right. Don't make my mistake. Find yourself a bank that respects you and your time.

Not Crypto Friendly

UP Bank was rumoured to be one of the more Crypto Friendly Australian banks.

After opening account I made a few test transfers to a couple of exchanges
and they went through.

A day or two later I tried again, only to have everything blocked.

And then the fun starts. You will receive a message in the talk to us tab, that at best is vague and bizarre (to the point that I had to double check I wasn't taking with an AI bot) and at worst passive aggressive.

TL/DR. They are absolutely, 💯 NOT a crypto Friendly bank
