AI enshitifcation strikes again
Live Chat with a human was 5-star service.
However, SiteGround's new customer-facing AI “help” makes reaching a human extremely difficult. After going through various AI loops without making any progress, and making two international calls to their Sales support, I was finally able to reach Technical Support Live Chat and a human.
The human support was excellent. My problem was understood, I received sensible assistance, and a support ticket was opened to deal with an unusual technical issue.
But for a premium web-hosting service that charges premium prices, my experience should be a warning to customers. When you have a problem that the AI system cannot resolve, simply reaching the excellent human support behind it can become a problem in itself.
SiteGround customer service is not what it used to be.
My thanks to the two people who ultimately gave me excellent help.
And a warning to SiteGround management: cutting customer-service costs by putting AI between customers and human support may save money, but it also degrades the value of the service and the brand. I had already decided to leave SiteGround; this experience made me doubly glad that I did.
