Poor poor quality paint. Thick and creamy, goes on easily, covers beautifully. So says the tagline. Unfortunately the truth is the opposite. Wishy washy even after properly stirring. Zero coverage and incredibly thin paint. What has happened to you Crown? Extremely disappointed customer.

It seems that’s impossible for Crown to send a couple of cans of paint by courier without them being mysteriously “damaged”. Of course you only find this out days after the due delivery date and even that was like jumping through hoops of fire. No attempt to try and make up for this, not even a token gesture, instead we were fobbed off with empty promises about getting the order resent. Again a few days after the delivery date had come and gone without the paint being delivered we contacted Crown (again) to find out that incredibly the order had been “damaged” again. I put this in inverted commas because I truly believe that the order was never sent. In the end the order was cancelled without as much as a sorry. I’ve experienced bad customer service before but this took it to a whole new level
Edit: with regards to Crown’s response. We have already emailed that email and all we got is the order cancelled and a refund started. The replies from the Crown bots are just lip service to make it look like they are doing something.

I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Crown Paints. I specifically sought advice on paint suitable for an external concrete driveway, and the product recommended to me was later found to be intended for indoor use only.
Relying on that advice, I applied the paint to my driveway. The result has been a damaged driveway that now requires investigation and potentially costly remedial work. I have since been advised that removing the paint may not be straightforward and that sanding or washing could cause further damage to the surface and texture.
To make matters worse, I submitted a formal complaint on 23 July 2026 and, over a month later, I am still waiting for a final response. The lack of communication and progress has been extremely frustrating.
I trusted the advice provided by Crown Paints and have been left with a damaged driveway and an unresolved complaint. I would expect a company of this size to take responsibility, communicate promptly, and work towards a fair resolution.
Very disappointing experience. I would advise others to carefully verify product suitability before relying on advice provided.

This is a long term review for Crown Quick Dry Gloss which I used 4 years ago and now I can review how it has performed long term. It’s not good.
I used this paint on interior tongue and groove cottage doors and skirting.
Six months after I had finished painting I noticed small white spots on the floor, it was from the Crown paint chipping off, in some places bits peeled off like clingfilm. As soon as I cleaned the spots, new ones appeared. I have been living with white paint spots on the floors for nearly four years.
This year I decided to re-paint the doors & skirting. I peeled off sheets of paint, in some places it was firmly in place so I keyed it with 120 grit sandpaper, hard work as the paint felt like it hadn’t fully cured (after 4 years!). I carefully sanded raised edges to get a level surface. Prep done.
Before undercoating I used a wet cloth to clean away dust and dirt. To my dismay the paint that had been keyed came off in wet chips. It was apparent that I had to remove every trace of the old Crown Quick Dry Gloss before undercoating, not an easy task on this type of door full of nooks and crannies. What should have been a two week job is turning into a major project.
I recall that the paint in a newly opened tin was paint was lumpy yet the instructions on the tin said do not stir. The instructions also suggested that an undercoat “might” be needed. I now know that undercoat is essential for modern water based paints, so Crown’s instructions were “economical with the truth” to put it lightly.
I am bewildered as to why a well know brand like Crown with a long and distinguished heritage and good name should produce and sell such a bad paint not fit for purpose and trash its reputation. I will not be buying anything made by Crown ever again, I will not allow redecorators to use any Crown products in my home.

This is by far the best paint I’ve used wow it’s amazing the coverage is amazing it’s so creamy I’ve alway used to another brand I’m a bit of a paint snob now I will 100% swapping in future no splash back no runs or bubbles I decorate a lot and I’m so happy with this

I did send a direct message..the fact you reply here says it all and not to my direct message of which there have been two regarding the leaking paint!! ANSWER The direct messages! downgraded my experience now to one star!
Leaking Paint!....I placed an order and received it but part of the order is damaged and paint has leaked out of the tin. It looks as though the tin lid had lifted off and paint leaked into the packaging so it couldnt be seen from outside apart from a dent in the box.
I have sent a message to Crown and as yet still not heard back so have sent another message. They are pretty poor at replying to their own contact us messaging system I now have half a tin of paint!

I been using trade crown products for over 30 years but no MORE.
It’s totally ridiculous how poor the emulsions are, what are you doing Crown…
I will not be buying anything else from you,it’s so time consuming using it.
Who is responsible for the reply’s on the complaints? Sorry doesn’t help when a tradesman is sending double the amount of time using your paint and not even getting an half decent finish.
If you call to complain you just get passed around..
Poor show Crown, there’s only one way this company is going and it’s such a shame because the staff in the centres are wonderful.

Absolutely horrendous
I have been using crown since 2014 and had not really used it since. Before the paint quality was better and much thicker, so I was quite happy with it at that time.
Last week decided to paint my living room with the same crown paint. It was absolutely awful to work with, coverage was a disgrace with the paint being so thin. A one day job had actually cost me 2 days to paint, kept going over the same dark spots over and over again.
I was soo disappointed that I decided to take the other 2 tubs back to wicks for a full refund, as I refused to use this paint to paint my passage or to use it ever again.
I was so frustrated I decided to call crown customer service, I spoke to a gentlemen called Eric who took my details after I had explained to him how water like thin the paint was, he told me someone would get in touch, which they did by email, asking absolutely stupid and ridiculous questions about if the walls were new plaster, what exact preparation work was carried out before painting , how many coats of paint did I apply and also a headed paper of the professional decorator who carried out the work.
What an absolute insult!
THIS PAINT SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE SOLD IN UK SUPERMARKETS.
I have taken the time to write this review because I do not want anyone else wasting their hard earned money and valuable time on rubbish like this.
This paint is not even worth the tub that it is in.

One star for colour that does not match sample, for having to pay decorator to finish a job with wrong paint and for being left to look at that lemony bright colour for the forseeable :(
Bought the paint, as the sample used did show a good soft shade of ivory(silk emulsion in Ivory Cream) . Got a bit of a shock after seeing the first coat applied by the decorator, as it appeared very sharp bright watered lemon shade (almost in need to use sunglasses indoors) . Comparison of drops of paint from sample pack and from the tin showed clear difference in shade which was a surprise (did not think I needed to actually check whats in the tin since already I used a sample ) . Coverage isn't very good either. Two coats on top of very light beige previous paint and there are still shades on the wall showing it could do with another coat. Thats ridiculous. Can not afford to pay extra for more paint and decorator's time just because the paint is substandard. Have to live with the colour now as could not go with an option of hiring a decorator to paint with a different paint two coats again. Wish I had come to read reviews before buying but as I used Crown in the past and it was one of top brands I did not think it could have changed so much. Don't think I will be buying any Crown paint again, Check well whats in the tin before you start painting even if you already tried the samples. And DO NOT TRUST reviews in sellers sites like Wickes- I placed my review there and they never published it :( (which is dishonest).
Thak you for yor response, I have now emailed you.

I cannot fault how this company dealt with my complaint. They listened, were sympathetic of my disappointment and endeavoured to put things rights. I highly recommend the Customer Service team as they dealt with my query professionally and efficiently. Thank you and well done.

Visited Crown paint centre in Reading.
The service I received was nothing short of exceptional.
I needed to match some bathroom paint and so they tried multiple ways to mix it up.
The sample I supplied wasn’t large enough and the need for 1 litre meant that the pot we required also wasn’t large enough for the amount of colour tint needed…
Nothing was too much trouble and I left as an extremely happy and with the paint supplied in exactly the right colour.
Amazing service and cheaper than all diy sheds in the area - congratulations a great job 👏

Awful emulsion. I am 6 coats in and cannot get the patchiness to go away! This is on top of a primer layer on wall! I regret not going with tried and tested Dulux!

I needed help choosing paint as my mum always said Crown paints are best. I didn’t know what to pick. We have young kids & a dog & I needed something hard wearing. I spoke with Eric who was so helpful, he suggested Crown Clean extreme which I’d already looked at, he confirmed it was best for us. I’m so impressed with it, it was easy to apply & it looks great! I will definitely buy it again. Thanks Eric!

Went to Crown Decorating Centre in Cambridge. The team were amazing and had colours mixed up in no time. The problem is the colours themselves. We painted walls with snowdrop 4 years ago and wanted to touch up. Snowdrop is now a completely different colour, looks green instead of cream on the walls so had to repaint the entire room. Tried Dash of nutmeg in another room. On the website, this colour is neutral with hues of coffee & cream. On the walls, it's grey with lilac/purple undertone. The paint is also much thinner now so drips everywhere while applying and needs at least 2 coats. I've since tried other brands which are far better quality & coverage and their colour matches the description unlike Crown

I had the misfortune to buy a defective tin of non drip gloss. I phoned Crown paints and was answered by a real human being - worth four stars on its own!! I explained the problem that I had found and it was instantly diagnosed as an end-of-run tin with no pigment which should never have left the factory. I was asked to e-mail an image of my receipt and bank details, and within a couple of days my costs were reimbursed. Excellent, real customer service
