What a disaster!

Everything mentioned in previous reviews applies to us as well. They are people who do not honor agreements and try to scam customers. DO NOT RENT A CAR THERE!!
What we had not taken into account was that they accused us of having lost car documents and wanted to withhold our deposit for it. Take photos of this beforehand.

WARNING

WARNING: Defective vehicle, forced cash payments, and 2-hour wait
Unacceptable experience with City Rent:
Safety Hazard: Instead of the booked category, I was given a Ford Mondeo with 268,651 km. Brake Assist and ESP warning lights were lit on the dashboard upon handover (photo proof attached).
Forced Cash Payments: No card reader was available. I was forced to pay €154 in cash for extra insurance to get the keys.
Unscheduled Fees: Demanded an additional €10 in cash upfront for cleaning, threatening a penalty fee upon return.
Service Delay: 2 hours of waiting on-site to collect the keys.
Putting customers on the road in a defective car is a severe safety risk.

Worst Car Rental Experience Ever

Albania is a beautiful country, but this rental company made our trip far more stressful than it should have been.
We received the vehicle we had booked, but it was dirty, damaged, and had several issues, including a faulty air conditioning system, poor maintenance, and very low power on steep roads. We even lost an entire day of our holiday taking the car to a garage to fix problems that should have been identified before it was rented out.
We also witnessed similar situations involving other customers, which left us with little confidence in how these issues are managed.
Be very careful when renting from this company. In the summer heat and on Albania’s roads, a vehicle that is not in proper condition can turn a dream holiday into a nightmare. Without a doubt, the worst car rental experience we have ever had.

Very disappointing experience

Very disappointing experience
We booked a manual car because I cannot drive an automatic. When we arrived in Tirana, we had to wait around one hour, even though we had already paid. They kept telling us “the car is there” or “it’s at the car wash”, and then suddenly told us they would give us a different car. At first, they gave us an automatic, even though we had clearly booked a manual. Eventually, we received a manual car with almost 400,000 km.
What is frustrating is that their contract says customers have to pay €50 if they are one hour late, yet we had to wait an hour ourselves. We even saw other customers waiting up to two hours for their cars.
We also saw other customers receiving random cars that were not properly maintained, including one car with non-working rear lights. You pay for a rental car, but are given a vehicle that is not even fully functional?
The contract also stated that airport pickup was included, but after arriving we were told to walk 9 minutes to meet them. This is not convenient for families with children, elderly people or people with heavy luggage.
There was also confusion about the payments, despite us already paying a deposit.
Overall, it felt like they expect customers to follow every rule in the contract, while they themselves do not respect the agreements. Very disappointing experience. I would not recommend renting from them.

1 star is really still too much for this scammers

1 star is really still too much for these scammers! Upon arrival, we had to wait 2 hours in the heat to get a car that was nothing like what we had booked (manual instead of automatic). If we absolutely wanted an automatic, we would just have to wait a few more hours. Eventually, after a lot of complaining (there were other people with the same problem), they said they would come to swap the car the next afternoon. So we adjusted our schedule and waited at the hotel all afternoon. Until a message came that they would only come 2 days later. We weren't happy about this because the next day we wanted to go further into the mountains. After back-and-forth complaining, they finally had an automatic, but they could only bring it in the evening. So we had to factor in the timing again. This time they did come, fortunately, but with a very old car and 290,000 kilometers on the odometer. The car was already scratched up and the ceiling was completely hanging down, which was especially unpleasant for our oldest son because it was hanging against him. BThe air conditioning wasn't working very well right from the start, and of course, three days later it completely stopped. It cost us hours of our vacation again. Returning the carwas even more fun. They saw new scratches. I showed them the photos proving they were already there, but no, apparently that wasn't true, it was just a reflection. More hassle, but they were still going to charge 850 euros to our credit card. What a scammers, never again!!

A rouge company that will attempt to rip you off at any opportunity

We hired a car from this company (which operates under a few different names - United, for example) for 2 weeks at the beginning of July, so just a week back since we arrived home. BIG MISTAKE!

This was a long saga, so here are the high(lo)lights:

1) They operate out of a caravan on a run-down lot along a dirt track road 10 minutes’ walk from the airport - nothing like the website or social media at all!!!
2) Didn’t have the car we booked, or anything like it
3) Tried to push us into an end-of-life, sub-standard ex-taxi which was bright yellow and had over 330,000km on the clock!
4) Let us leave without proper insurance cover on first night in the disgusting yellow bus
5) Invented an out of hours fee not disclosed in the paperwork, which was caused by their mistake and delay
6) Forced upsale to full insurance (at least we didn’t have to leave a credit card deposit) on a more suitable car. Negotiated a small inconvenience discount but was still overcharged
7) Tried to rip us off with a fake parking ticket con when we returned the car.
8) I note they have recently added a bunch of fake positive reviews online to boost their extremely bad name - business must be slow!
9) Absolute gangsters, don’t go near them!

City rent/United rent car/Ademi rent…

City rent/United rent car/Ademi rent car

They all go by different names but are all the same crooks. Their ‘card not working’ excuse seems to be the trade mark to not only take your cash but also avoid paying taxes. They would find any excuse on earth the steal your money, starting from hard push insurance, to damage to tyres, windscreen wipers and god knows what else which are according to them not covered by insurance, so they would charge additional costs even though you have insurance. They are located 15 minutes walk from the airport and based in a caravan with blinds pulled down and from where a girl and a boy would eventually come out to ‘attend you’. The whole experience from start to the end was dodgy and unbelievable. Is a shame as we had a great time in Albania but this completely blew our mind how is possible this people run a business like this. They should not be in business, they should be in prison!!

Wish I could give them negative stars ..
I wish I had realised this company was a scam. They will find a way to get you - and are the worst. We avoided their initial attempts to charge extra - but we realised right from the start it was going to be a nightmare. Tried to charge us their insurance, prepay their car wash and everything under the sun. Also made out our card didnt work (that our travel insurance was thru). The first car they gave had warning lights for airbags and engine - an old taxi in a poor condition. We got another car (after much debate) which was a little better - and closer to what our booking actually promised. We returned the car 2 hours early, as anticpated they would find a way to charge us 'extras'. We had already filled the car up (way more than what they provided), washed the car 10 mins up the road and did everything right. They said it was $1000 euros for driving 'offroad' what ever that means here ..... do not use them or a parent car rental car who uses them

The Worst Car Rental Experience I Have…

The Worst Car Rental Experience I Have…
The Worst Car Rental Experience I Have Ever Had

Without a doubt, this was the worst car rental experience of my life.

From the moment I arrived, it felt like the company was looking for every possible opportunity to extract more money from customers. First, they claimed that my Visa card could not be used for the security deposit. This was extremely suspicious, as their own rental terms clearly state that Visa and Mastercard are accepted. Their immediate solution was to pressure me into purchasing their Full Insurance package, which cost almost twice as much as the actual car rental.

I soon realized this was not an isolated incident. While I was there, another tourist couple was told exactly the same thing—that their card was not accepted—and they were also pushed toward buying the expensive insurance package.

The condition of the vehicle was absolutely unacceptable. The key was damaged, the central locking system and alarm did not work, the radio was broken, and there was no way to charge a phone because neither the USB port nor the audio connections were functioning. The air conditioning barely cooled the cabin, the mirrors were damaged, the paint was peeling, and the seats were dirty.

Most concerning of all, the windshield wipers barely worked and the windshield washer system was completely empty. This made driving in rainy conditions difficult and potentially dangerous. Renting out a vehicle in this condition shows a complete disregard for customer safety.

The poor condition of the fleet was obvious. The customer before me rejected three different vehicles because they were also in terrible condition. As a result, there were virtually no decent cars available to rent.

The final insult came when I returned the vehicle. Despite returning the car cleaner than I received it, I was charged an additional €20 cleaning fee. At that point, it became clear that they would find any excuse possible to add extra charges.

My advice: stay away from this company. Even if another rental company appears slightly more expensive, choose them instead. In the end, it will likely cost you less and save you a great deal of stress and frustration. What appears to be a cheap rental with CarJet/City Rent Albania can quickly become far more expensive once the hidden charges, pressure-selling tactics, and questionable fees begin.

This company seems to operate by attracting customers with low prices and then finding every possible way to increase the final bill. I strongly recommend looking elsewhere and avoiding the same mistake I made.

Very disappointing experience with…

Very disappointing experience with CITY RENT a car (Tirana) . The booked insurance was not accepted at pickup, and I was forced to purchase additional coverage due to alleged credit card issues and lack of alternatives.

At return, I was charged €500 for “unsuitable roads” without clear definition or proof in the contract.

Overall, I felt pressured into paying extra costs beyond my booking with poor transparency. Not recommended.

an unreliable institution

On May 29, 2026, I rented a car from City Rent A Car at Tirana Airport in Albania. When I arrived to pick up the vehicle, the company representative informed me that because my flight had been delayed and I arrived approximately two hours later than expected, I would have to pay an additional €50 fee. While this may have been based on their internal policy, when I stated that I did not want to pay this charge, they told me that the fee would be waived if I canceled my reservation made through Rentalcars.com. Following their suggestion, I canceled my reservation.

Afterward, the vehicle was handed over to me without providing any rental agreement or delivery documentation. To protect myself from potential disputes, I recorded detailed videos of the vehicle's interior and exterior condition before leaving. The staff told me that the necessary documents would be sent to my phone later.

During the rental period, I experienced no issues with the vehicle and returned it in good condition. However, upon return, the staff claimed that the car was excessively dirty and demanded an additional €20 cleaning fee. This charge had never been mentioned beforehand, nor was it included in any documentation provided to me.

I showed them the videos I had taken when collecting the vehicle and explained that I was returning it in essentially the same condition in which I had received it. Unfortunately, they refused to even watch the videos.

This experience left me with the impression that the company looks for opportunities to charge tourists extra fees whenever possible. Until this incident, I had very positive impressions of Albania, but this experience unfortunately overshadowed many of those positive memories.

For this reason, I cannot recommend City Rent A Car and would advise other travelers, especially Turkish tourists, to be very cautious when dealing with this company.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Everything was bad!
- The time it took to get the car: 1.5 hours from their caravan we had to search for
- The rip off 'hidden fee' on collection of 150 euros 'in cash only' as the card reader wasn't working...(even though the contract stated a 45 euro fee)
- the car itself had done 360,000km, that's 9 times round the equator!
- the passenger window fell down and wouldn't close
- the rear tyre exploded
- the petrol cap wouldn't open
- the drivers seatbelt kept un-clicking
- there were always 5 warning lights on (City Car told us to ignore these...)
- the boots became jammed
- the car would only do a max speed of 50mph as it was so old...
- the starting of the car, hit and miss
- the website showed a nice new fiesta, this was an ancient antique Skoda!

A rip off! Please avoid at all costs. Terrible customer service too.

A real SCAM. Please, be carefull

Be very careful when renting from United Rent a Car / City Rental Albania through PlanetRentalCars.

The booking already included insurance, and I even purchased additional Premium Full Protection online during checkout.

Despite this, at pickup I was told that my coverage was “not valid” and I was forced to pay extra directly at the desk if I wanted to receive the car.

The situation felt extremely misleading and pressured:
“Pay extra or no car.”

I also saw other customers being pushed into additional insurance purchases while waiting there.

Poor transparency, aggressive upselling and incorrect Google Maps office location.

Very negative experience overall.

Avoid This Company

Avoid This Company

I strongly recommend staying away from this rental company. This is my second time using them, and unfortunately, I had bad experience.

I booked a car at a very cheap price, which was confirmed. However, it felt like a bait tactic. Once you arrive, unexpected issues start appearing.

My flight was delayed by 2 hours, which I informed them about in advance. When I finally arrived at their office at midnight, they charged me an extra €50 for being late — even though they claim to operate 24 hours. This made no sense, especially since the car was already paid for and just sitting there.

I was willing to pay the €50 despite the surprise, but things got worse. When I offered to pay the €1,500 excess deposit by credit card (which I normally do), they pushed me to buy their insurance at €15 per day instead. When I declined, the staff member warned me that even the smallest scratch could cost at least €700 — despite the car being old, with visible dents and multiple scratches, especially around the bumpers.

At that late hour, with no alternative options available, I felt I had no choice but to accept their insurance.

Overall, this experience felt unfair and pressured. Be very cautious if you’re considering renting from this company.

NEVER RENT WITH CITYRENT A CAR

I've rented a car with this company and the experience was a dissaster:
1. The car was old and it was not clean when I took it. The water from the front glass didn't work and the driver's car mat was wrong, so it was risky during the driving.
2. I took total insurance with them because I showed how they dealt with a man dropping off the car. They told me everything was included, and that was written in the contract. I had a tire puncture and then, they told me it was not included. When the girl was explaining me the covers, she marked the most common ones, and then, they argued that those marks meant the ones not covered.
3. Therefore they wanted to charge me extra money and also because the car was not clean (as when I took it).
4. The police had to come and after an hour talking with them and with the embassy I could go without paying any extra charge.

Scammers

No one welcomed us, or explained us anything. People were waiting for hours! There was a group of woman waiting for 5 hours before us to get their car. Also 3 groups of people waiting to return their car. When we asked for how long it might take other customers told us how they got scammed by these people. Bringing up a higher fee, or claiming they went out of country bounds, or driving more km while having unlimited km. We suggest to not book with this company! It might be tempting because it’s cheap, but it’s a big big scam! We left and didn’t go through with our booking after waiting for more than one hour.
