I regret engaging with them, it caused me a lot of stress
I engaged Legalitas for legal advice regarding a settlement agreement (VSO) offered by my employer. When I initially contacted them, I was quoted an hourly rate of €240 + VAT, with an expectation that the total time would be 1.5 to 2 hours. Based on that, I anticipated a cost of around €500–€600.
However, after a single short consultation (approximately 30-45 minutes) and 2 emails exchanged, I received an invoice for €2499,99. This was never communicated to me as a fixed fee in advance, and it came as a complete surprise. The billing seemed to be based not on the work performed, but on the gross legal compensation mentioned in my settlement agreement — which I was personally responsible for, and which was subject to taxation. This misunderstanding caused a great deal of stress and confusion.
Over the course of two full business days, I exchanged multiple emails with their billing department trying to resolve the situation. I repeatedly asked for a breakdown of the invoice and tried to explain the discrepancy between the agreed rate and the final bill. The process was emotionally draining and time-consuming, especially since I originally reached out to Legalitas to avoid stress and uncertainty during an already difficult career transition.
To their credit, Legalitas eventually issued a revised invoice that aligned with the original hourly quote. I appreciate that the issue was resolved in the end. However, the lack of transparency and communication up front, combined with the difficulty in reaching a resolution, made this a very stressful experience for me — far more so than the legal issue I initially needed help with.
I’m sharing this to help others make an informed decision. This was my personal experience and reflects how the situation affected me emotionally and practically.
