I strongly recommend thinking twice before purchasing from Oz Study Desks. My experience has been an absolute nightmare from start to finish.

I ordered a desk and storage unit on 3 June. Both were advertised as in stock and not pre-orders, yet my order wasn’t shipped until 24 June, exactly THREE WEEKS later. When the items arrived, the packaging was covered in various different brand names and included a label from China. Given the three-week delay before dispatch, this certainly gave me the impression that the products were being sourced from China after the order was placed, despite the website advertising stock in Silverwater, NSW.

When the desk finally arrived, it had multiple defects. The desktop had a large scratch directly through the centre, deep enough to damage the finish and expose the raw wood. There was another large scratch/scuff on the backing panel, and most seriously, one of the rear support beams was cracked and badly bowed and could not be installed.

This wasn’t just cosmetic. The desk is very top heavy due to the large shelving/hutch section, and without the support beam it sways noticeably from side to side during normal use. I effectively have a brand new desk that I now have to work out how to stabilise or repair myself just to use it safely.

The replacement process was somehow even worse. After extensive back and forth and repeatedly providing photos, they agreed to replace the damaged parts. They then sent the WRONG support beam, damaged legs, only one drawer instead of two, and additional pieces I had never requested. They then asked me to send photographs of the parts they had sent so they could work out what they had actually sent me.

The replacement parts did not resolve the problem. The desk is still not properly functioning or structurally stable, and it still sways during normal use.

I ultimately accepted a $65 refund on my $885 total order simply because I was exhausted by the amount of time and effort required to deal with this company. It was not because the issue was satisfactorily resolved. As far as Oz Study Desks is concerned, the matter is now closed, despite the fact that I still do not have a properly functioning, structurally sound desk.

I was also left with large unwanted pieces that I never requested and now have to either take to the tip or arrange a council clean-up to dispose of.

The storage unit I purchased also has issues. It doesn’t allow records to be stored with the doors closed, despite records being pictured in the product listing. It also has a plastic logo from an unrelated Chinese manufacturer attached to the bottom, which makes the product look considerably cheaper than it appears online. The “walnut” colour of the storage unit also does not match the “walnut” desk I purchased from the same company.

The products may look good online, but my experience with the quality control, shipping and customer service has been extremely poor. I spent a significant amount of money with this company and was left with a defective, unstable desk, mismatched products, incorrect replacement parts, unwanted pieces to dispose of and a $65 refund after weeks of dealing with customer service.

I genuinely wanted to love these products, but I would not purchase from Oz Study Desks again. Buyer beware.

I was so worried after ordering the desk that this was a scam or that I would wait three months or there would be parts missing or poor quality.

The desk arrived two days after ordering and I received multiple communications from the team via text and email.

The box arrived in good condition and they texted a picture of it under cover outside my house.

The instructions were minimal, but if you’ve constructed plenty of flat packs they are all pretty much the same so I had no problem putting it together in about 15 mins on my own.

The material is actually timber, which I was concerned wouldn’t be the case considering the price.

Everything was sanded and varnished properly and all the screws lined up fine so I’m not sure why people complained about it being difficult to put together?

I would not only recommend but wouldn’t hesitate to order from them again in the future! What an absolute relief!

But when I reached out the response was swift and the team worked hard to ensure the desk arrived in time (which it did 😉). The desk was easy to assemble and looks great. My mother-in-law and I visited the Melbourne store two days in a row to furnish our new home in Australia, and we had such a wonderful experience! The sales lady was incredibly warm and patient—she took the time to help us both days and made us feel so well looked after.

The furniture quality is far better than IKEA. We especially loved the solid wood sideboards—they have a warm, natural style that we haven’t seen from other furniture brands in Australia. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for beautiful, well-made furniture in Melbourne! 😊

Looks quite different to the photos on their websites. Not even sure the top is wood, looks and feels like plastic. In the website photos, the top looks like a single large pane of wood. In fact, the top consists of many small pieces joined in a way that makes it suspiciously resemble veneer or plastic.

I was so impressed with Oz Study Desks. I changed my order after buying and it was easy and no problem. My desk was delivered today and very promptly, as I live in Nth Qld in a rural area. The desk was fantastic quality and fantastic value for money . Especially as it solid timber. Freight was very reasonable. My husband put it together easily ,compared to other furniture we have had to put together in the past. I highly recommend this business. First time I have purchased from them and I'm thrilled with the quality of the desk and the customer service. I buy online a lot and rarely do I get this value or service. I'm on a budget as a pensioner and really appreciate the amazing price and quick delivery.

Their range was amazing. I ordered a desk and a book shelf. Both arrived within the three day shipping time frame (capital city, and items in stock). Twice I reached out needing help with assembly (because I was silly), and twice they replied quickly with support. The items themselves are far superior to anything ‘flat pack’ I’ve ever seen. They’re sturdy as heck. They look good. I’m stoked! It won’t be the last time :)

The adjustable desk is solid and works exactly as described. It did take a bit of time to assemble, but once set up, it feels stable and professional. It’s a reliable standing study desk option for work-from-home setups. Overall a positive experience.
