Location. Location. Location. The Robinson House is perfectly situated in the heart of historic Strivers Row, one of Harlem’s most beautiful and architecturally significant neighborhoods. Staying here means you’re surrounded by stunning brownstones, quiet tree-lined streets, and a rich sense of New York history, while still being just minutes from great restaurants, cafés, parks, and convenient subway access. If you’re looking for an authentic NYC experience in a charming and historic setting, the location is hard to beat.

Coliving is a convenient option for people moving to New York from abroad: the common spaces make it easy to meet people, rent management through Qira is fairly straightforward, and staff were helpful when I had questions about my renewal and security deposit. The West Harlem location is quiet but still well connected to the rest of Manhattan.
I'd recommend Outpost to anyone looking for a flexible living situation with some built-in community, especially if you're moving to NYC without knowing many people yet.

If you are considering renting with Outpost Co-living in New York City; specifically their Williamsburg Brooklyn location please read this before signing anything. This is a fully documented, accurate account of my experience.

It is also funny to see one of their Leasing Managers leaving a review here on Trustpilot. V__ S__ sure does love their job.

WHAT HAPPENED
I signed a lease with Outpost Co-living NYC, paid fees in full (first month + security deposit), and had a confirmed July 1st 2026 move-in date for a specific unit at their Williamsburg Brooklyn location.
After signing, Outpost management repeatedly pressured me to switch to an inferior unit to accommodate another tenant's friend group who wanted to be near their friends on the same floor.
I did genuinely consider their offer. I weighed the trade-offs carefully and concluded that the unit I had signed for and believed I had the legal right to keep under my signed lease was significantly better suited for my needs, particularly for what I anticipated would be a year-long stay. It had more natural light, better floor positioning, and superior layout. The alternative unit they were pushing had one window blocked by an adjacent building, was on a lower floor with direct street exposure, and offered meaningfully less livability for the premium I was already paying.
I declined their offer based on a straightforward evaluation of both units. What happened next is why I am writing this post.

When I refused to switch:
They issued written threats to terminate my lease without legal cause
They gave artificial 24-hour ultimatums designed to prevent me from getting legal counsel over a weekend
They began issuing a refund without my consent to force a termination
I had violated zero terms of my lease — my only "offense" was refusing a voluntary unit switch

WARNING #1 — DO NOT SIGN A DIRECT LEASE WITH OUTPOST CO-LIVING
Under no circumstances should you sign a direct lease with Outpost Co-living. A signed lease with them does not protect you the way a standard residential lease would. Their management demonstrated a willingness to terminate legally binding leases for reasons with no legal standing in New York State and they did so in writing. No lease with Outpost should be considered secure or guaranteed regardless of what they tell you at signing.

WARNING #2 — IF YOU MUST STAY AT OUTPOST, USE AIRBNB ONLY
If you absolutely must stay at an Outpost property, book exclusively through Airbnb never through their direct leasing process. Airbnb's AirCover protection covers cancellations, inaccurate listings, and check-in failures. A direct Outpost lease leaves you with significantly fewer protections and based on my documented experience a management team willing to weaponize lease termination against you.

WARNING #3 — IF YOU MUST SIGN A DIRECT LEASE WITH OUTPOST, DO NOT SIGN MORE THAN ONE WEEK BEFORE YOUR MOVE-IN DATE
If you absolutely must sign a direct lease with Outpost Co-living, do not sign it any earlier than one week before your move-in date ideally just a few days before. The earlier you sign, the longer the window management has to pressure, manipulate, or attempt to reassign your unit before you have physical possession. Signing close to your move-in date dramatically reduces their ability to interfere with your tenancy before you are physically in the unit. Once you are in possession of your unit, your legal protections as a NYC tenant become significantly stronger and much harder to circumvent.

I stayed with in the outpost Hells Kitchen house for 3 months when I first moved to NY, a lot of pros and cons. Outpost are very accommodating, the house I stayed in had everything I needed, all appliances, washing and drying, excellent location,Beautiful rooftop views. We had cleaners come in and re stock cleaning supplies. Whenever I had an issue they respond very fast and when it came to moving out the refund process was very quick and they were very easy to speak with. Also they are very flexible with locating you somewhere else if you want so there great to start off and get you on your feet.

Cons:

I highly suggest as a female getting a camera because this was my biggest concern, the maintenance man in the Hell’s Kitchen house came into the apartment several times without getting any notice, I felt unsafe so I got a camera and when I was in work I got a notification he entered my bedroom and looked around and noticed the camera and quickly left, after that another time when I was home he came in and I caught him and opened the door and he was in the bathroom in the dark and I recorded him and asked what he was doing and he said “leak leak” and I said where and why are you in the dark” it was just very uncomfortable when I said this to outpost they first said the maintenance man denied it I have CCTV footage but as I needed a place to stay I let it go and warned other women to get a camera and previous girls raised same concerns to me after I said with similar story’s with same man.

There were some cockroaches and mice but again it’s NYC Iv seen this a lot around the city not just outpost and they were fast with getting extermination in

Last con is I was never given an option to extend the lease in my current room I was advised room was gone but could be placed in a different house, the girl I worked with was very friendly and did try hard to place me somewhere else so they were not going to leave me stuck but it was just unfortunate I had no option to extend, (I do think this was a mistake though as they are busy over summer I think they usually do give you the option to extend but this is just my experience) so if you do know after a few weeks you want to stay let them know fast because luckily I found my own apartment fast but it’s hard in NYC and you don’t want to be jumping around houses.

Overall I would recommend staying with them NY is a hard place to start up in and they do make it easy for you and they are trustworthy over all, just get a camera

They double charged me for rent. 4200 instead of 2100. Was left with -700 dollars on my bank account. Took over 2weeks to clear up. They never explained or apologized. You can only contact a call center in another country and they canT do anything EVER. Also they charged each apt 120$ for wifi (we each pay 60) if it works, because it goes out daily downlosd speeds less than 10mbps

Outpost helped to make my relocation from another state very smooth. My apartment had everything I needed. The room was fully furnished. They even provide a cleaning every month!! And the cherry on a pie that I met a lot of amazing people (my roommates)

Please never ever trust them! They are nor honest about the condition of apartment and people are not safe who will
Live with it.

Nice stuff, smooth check-in, and an overall good place to stay

I’m currently living at Bedford House and I really like my room and the apartment. It has everything I need for comfortable living. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a coffee machine and a toaster. There’s a cozy balcony and rooftop access where you can spend time and relax. I also really like the digital lock - I didn’t know about this type of lock before.

I stayed at Outpost last month, and overall it was a really solid experience. The community vibe was definitely the best part. I met some great people working on interesting projects, and the common areas made it easy to connect without anything feeling forced. The only downside was the morning coffee rush because it gets a bit chaotic when everyone is trying to caffeinate at the same time.

Their "no-obligation" application process is a sham.

Only after a $20 fee and approval can you actually see the room and review the contract, which is fine. But they also require a full month’s deposit upfront, which they say is refundable if you choose not to proceed.

Since I hadn’t moved yet, I asked for real photos of the room after being approved. Thank goodness I did! The room looked nothing like the photos online. It had no windows, was extremely small, squeezed between two other rooms, and directly opposite a bathroom.

When I decided not to go ahead, they refunded $1,790, even though I had paid $1,842.65. They blamed and sent me to my bank and Stripe. For obvious reasons, both needed the original receipt showing the intended charge amount, not the refund receipt. Outpost's team couldn't understand the difference and refused to give me the original invoice or receipt, which was sitting in their application portal that I no longer had access to.

As you can imagine, both the bank and Stripe confirmed that payments are processed exactly as instructed by Outpost as the merchant, with no extra fees, and Outpost are in complete control of the refund amount.

The team were completely clueless about their own billing and refund process and just left me without my full deposit in the end. I would strongly advise others — especially those relocating from abroad — to be very cautious, and avoid adding this unnecessary stress to your already tricky moving situation.

I lived at Fort Greene House for about seven months in an economy room that cost $1690 a month. The place was always clean and quiet, and everything was pretty well organized. My room was small but had what I needed, and the shared spaces were kept in good shape. There was even a little gym in the building, which I actually used a few times. The only thing I didn’t love was that the washer and dryer weren’t free, but overall it was a comfortable and easy place to live.
