Scammers

This is a scam! This company has reversed the name of the official Trenitalia. I googled Trenitalia but “Italiatren” showed up and looked like the actual government website. The ticket prices were reasonable so I clicked submit and then went to my email to download the tickets to my Apple wallet when I realized it was sent from a company called Rail Click! I phoned immediately and was told this was their “marketing strategy” and I told them they were dishonest and this was a scam. I have disputed the charge. This is a very sneaky and dishonest third party reseller of official Trenitalia tickets targeting consumers through adding a service charge and “refund” fees.

It's basically a scam

It's basically a scam! They mimick the website and URL of Trenitalia and charge you 3 times the price of the original ticket. However, you just get a PDF confirmation with a Trenitalia logo that says: "Not valid for travel".

Hi everyone,

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share my experience with Trenitalia on the “direct” train journey I booked from Geneva to Milan — a one-day round trip that was supposed to take about 4 hours and 30 minutes each way.

Well, my nightmare started early in the morning when my train from Geneva was cancelled without any prior notice. I ended up taking three trains and one bus, and — voilà! — after a 3-hour delay, I finally reached Milan.

Of course, by that time, I had missed all my appointments.

Later, I arrived at Milano Centrale an hour before my return train to Geneva. First, the “direct” train was announced with a 25-minute delay. Then, guess what happened next? They kicked us all off the train at Brig, in Switzerland!

Now I’ve been stuck here for almost an hour, and apparently, I still need to take two more trains to get back to Geneva. Instead of arriving at 11:50 p.m., I’ll now reach at 2:45 in the morning!

Can someone please give me a reasonable explanation why I paid CHF 200 for a direct train ticket — when even one of the doors wasn’t properly covered?

Sorry, European Union… but this experience was 100% crap!

ItaliaTren website didn't let me buy my specific tickets

The website initially didn't let me buy the tickets I wanted. I tried multiple times and even used a different browser. It popped up with a prompt asking me to choose a different "tariff" (or ticket) or cancel. The next day, I went back into the website and saw that the ticket prices for my selection increased and was able to buy an earlier train tickets for the price I wanted. So now I have learned that the reason I wasn't able to book my tickets is that the train ticket price increase wasn't reflected yet on the ItaliaTren website. I wish they could just say on the prompt that popped up. It was very frustrating.

Nomango, thank you for your comment, but what you're describing doesn’t fully align with how our platform works.

ItaliaTren connects in real time with Trenitalia’s official pricing and availability. If a selected fare is no longer available, the system will notify you to choose another fare or cancel—it does not block purchases without explanation, nor does it delay fare updates to mislead users.

It’s possible the fare you were trying to book had just expired or was a promotional rate that sold out. The prompt asking you to select a different tariff is a standard message when the original option is no longer bookable.

We understand your frustration, but your experience likely reflects a fare availability issue, not a system failure or hidden price change. Our 24/7 support team is always available to assist in real time and clarify any confusion.

The tranitalia website is NOT user friendly …

The trainItalia website is very unpredictable and not at all user friendly. It is an ordeal to use it, each time.
This last time, I had not received my PAID tickets and I had a hard time trying to contact them. Fortunately, the help service I finally found was very helpful and they found and sent me my tickets. Thank you to them.

Suzanne, thank you for your review—but it seems there's a clear misunderstanding.

Italiatren.com is our platform, and we are specifically designed for international travelers. We offer a user-friendly interface in multiple languages, support various currencies, and provide 24/7 customer service—all features that are not typically found on the official Trenitalia website.

What you're describing does not reflect how Italiatren operates. It’s likely that you made your booking elsewhere, possibly on Trenitalia’s site, which can indeed be more limited for non-Italian users.

We kindly suggest double-checking where you actually made the purchase. If it wasn’t with us, we’d appreciate if you could correct your review to avoid confusion. If it was, our support team is here 24/7 and happy to help you directly.

Never again with this traincompany

Never again with this traincompany. My girlfriend and I went to Florance from Pisa. We bought a single ticket on the day itself, so we thought it was all settled. We went in the train and the conductor said to us our ticket is not valid. So besides the 2x10 euro we paid a additional 2x68 euro as a fine. Apparently when you buy a single ticket valid for only that day at the machine you have to "check in" at another machine that is somewhere in the corner of the trainstation. It was totaly not clear. And now we payed for 2 single tickets + 2 fines around 160 euro for 1 hour train journey. Ridiculous! The conductor didn't even care we bought a ticket trying to follow the rules and that we were tourists. If you want tourists to travel with your train (apparently you do so because english is a option at the ticket machine), make it clear for them what to do. Because this is literally scamming tourists. The only thing they showed on the screen of the ticketmachine is a small line with "validate your ticket" in Arial 8 so tourists can't read it at all! Just a suggestion, make a pop up notification that tourists have to press yes and then explain how the stamp machines look like or something when they select English as language. I want my money back, thank you for ruining our last day in Italy!

Thank you for sharing your experience, Freek. We understand your frustration and regret that your train journey turned into such a negative experience. However, we’d like to clarify some important points.

The issue you encountered stems from the validation process required by many train operators in Italy, including the need to validate tickets at designated machines before boarding. While this process is standard across the country, we understand that it may not always be clear to travelers unfamiliar with the system. Your suggestion of improving the instructions for tourists is valid, and we will pass this feedback along to the railway operator.

As RailClick, we facilitate the booking of tickets but do not set or enforce the policies or procedures of the train operators, including fines for non-validated tickets. However, we are here to assist you in any way we can. If you’d like, please contact our customer support team, and we can help you escalate your concern with the train company.

We appreciate your feedback and are committed to improving the travel experience for all our customers. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts, and we hope you’ll consider giving train travel another chance in the future. Safe travels!

Avoid!!

Ordered a return journey, was only sent half the tickets. Online chat told me I had used an ‘unverified channel’, but they could see my booking and said I only booked one way. I could not send a photo of the booking page which showed out and back. Total scam. They just left the chat. No help at all. Had to buy more tickets, not from them!

Just flee this company is more than…

Just flee this company is more than horrible.

Their flexible system is just a scam as they are locked on one train and they push you with a lot of notifications to check-in on the train stating on the email to check-in that the ticket will be flexible. However when you check-in it then they tell you it is not anymore possible to change anything even Italian police was confused about their practices. If you can just take the bus in Italy.

Charged a ridiculous price for an honest mistake!

Charged us a ridiculous price for an honest mistake made (when getting a return train one day earlier than booked). Train inspector suddenly quoted €200 when the same tickets one day later had cost €40 when booked in advance. After saying we could not pay this price, the inspector suddenly produced a deal for €100 which we reluctantly paid.

Train was empty so they had seats to fill, no flexibility or understanding for customer service.

Horrible company — completely ruined our experience visiting Florence from Rome.

— — —

EDIT ON 03/10/2024 — the scammy company tried appealing to Trustpilot to say that I’d chosen the wrong company for this review!

Furthermore, I lodged an official appeal on their website as soon as we returned from Italy, and there has been no response in the last 4 months. Such a horrible company, and employ fraudelent ticket inspectors. Avoid at all costs and travel with someone else.

Horrible Customer Service with RailClick

DO NOT EVER purchase train tickets through RailClick.

We are familiar with train travel in Europe and within Italy. We bought roundtrip train tickets from Rome to Assisi through RailClick and used the Trenitalia app to check in before departure and present the tickets to the train manager when they came to our seats to confirm our tickets. This worked fine for our trip from Rome to Assisi, however the tickets back to Rome we were not able to pull them up in the Trenitalia app for some unclear reason. The return tickets would not show up in the app, Trenitalia website or when using the confirmation email we received from RailClick. We were therefore unable to check in for our trip prior to departure which is required before boarding the train. We discussed this problem with the train station ticket employee in Assisi who was also unable to bring up our tickets in the Trenitalia app or website or check us in. He was unable to change or cancel our tickets and suggested we discuss this with the train manager when our train stopped at the station prior to our boarding which would be a risk for us missing our train if the manager was not able to assist us at that time, which was likely to happen. We otherwise needed to call RailClick and have them change our tickets or cancel them so we could purchase new tickets. However, RailClick was not available by phone, despite calling during business hours over and over again and did not respond to our email sent to them asking for help with our return trip. We had little time to remedy this problem given our train departure time was approaching. Despite multiple attempts calling RailClick and emailing them without any response, we were left with buying new tickets through Trenitalia.

Upon returning to Rome, we sent follow-up emails to RailClick describing the problem we had and requested a refund for the tickets we were not able to use. RailClick has refused to provide any refund and had no apology for our trouble. We thoroughly regret using RailClick and suggest you avoid buying tickets from them as you are taking a significant risk given they have no customer support and will not assist you if needed.nt risk in doing so.

Terrible attitude of train officer

This railing company made me the worst travelling experience in my life. I took a mistake to ride on the incorrect train because my children suffered from sickness. When a train arrived in Airport, a train officer came to me and suddenly claimed EUR 128.00 as a fine for riding on the incorrect train. Without showing any polite attitude to listen to me, he kept claiming and confined us inside the train whose door closed, while my children were crying out for fear. In addition, he threatened to call police, keeping a extremely strict face. Of course, we paid the fine for the mistake, but even if so, his attitude to customer was completely wrong and it made me the worst impression on Italy and Europe, as this was my first trip there. If this company will not take it seriously and allow this situation to happen, sooner or later, anybody will be terribly disappointed and nobody will visit there.

Refundable tickets never refunded.

I purchased two REFUNDABLE tickets for train service in Spain. I called 3-days after purchase to get a refund because our travel plans slightly changed and I wanted to buy the rail tickets directly throughly the train operator (Renfe) and not Railclick which is a THIRD PARTY operator. I called Railclick, and after 2-hours on the phone waiting for an operator I finally got an operator who refunded the tickets but 2-3 weeks later I'm still waiting for my refunded to be posted back to my credit card, it is to the point I had to call my bank for them to take action. I'm still waiting on a resolution and I would NOT recommend this third party company for your rail tickets in Europe.

I purchased tickets for the wrong date. I attempted to contact the company to change the date. No one responded to my request. This site is very confusing to use

This site is very confusing to use. Make sure you pick your options for both legs of your trip if going two ways. If a mistake is made, they will do absolutely nothing to help remedy the situation other than offer apologies saying there is nothing they can do. I attemted to make contact less than five minutes after the transaction was finalized. On hold for roughly 2-1/2 hours with no response other than a 10 second music loop. if you can find an alternative I would strongly recommend it. What a disappointment for what I was hoping was an enjoyable/expensive vacation.
