Called DTE Energy today to inquire…

Called DTE Energy today to inquire about my current billing of $208.00. Once I got through to a customer service rep. (no help at all), I started to inquire as to why my billing was so high? And if DTE had credited my account from back in July, when most of Wayne, Oakland and other counties were out of power for three (3) days? This customer service rep. started to explain to me, that the credit would take up to three (3) billing cycles to show up on my bill. I then begin to ask why so long, if I would be late on my payment, DTE would attack my credit and attempt taking me to court for non-payment! Companies like DTE Energy are full of "S___", every time you turn around their trying to increase your billing and asking for rate hikes! For the past five (5) years or more where I live in Oakland County (Berkley), every time someone sneeze or fard loudly the power goes out and DTE Energy gives fault to tree limbs and or wind damage! But, every time you turn around their asking for rate increases for infrastructure, where is all this money going? How much infrastructure needs to be upgraded, this again makes no sense " in my opinion! "Never Improves Anything", just keep getting richer!

A tree branch is lying on telephone…

A tree branch is lying on telephone wires. These wires are hanging very low to the ground in my backyard but have not touched the ground. I was told that DTE has 7 days to respond to my situation since I still have power. This is ridiculous, 7 days!! with wires handing low. The wires are connected from the telephone pole to my home not to mention other wires that are connected to my home. Now all I can do is hope that there isn't any storms between now and the 7 days I have to wait.

DTE Energy (or sub contractor) drove…

DTE Energy (or sub contractor) drove into my neighbors drive in a large truck. When backing out, the driver veered off onto my property damaging my lawn and sprinkler lines/heads.

The driver did not leave a note on my door to inform me of the damages or how to reach out to DTE for repairs.

I filed a complaint online with a request to repair the damage. I have not heard from DTE and will have to pay a company to do the repairs.

Perhaps DTE should screen their drivers (and sub contractors) to verify if they have the ability, dexterity, and expertise to handle large trucks backing out of a driveways.

DTE Energy should insist their staff (or sub contractors) be transparent with homeowners about damage they cause and also have a policy/procedure in place to follow when they cause damage to property.

If I am expected to pay DTE Energy for their services, DTE Energy should be expected to repair and restore damages to property.

A monopoly with profit making as its top priority

Overall, DTE Energy Company is way below average. Below are my Pluses and Minuses:

Pluses:

1) Their website allows you to report a power outage, and they do a good job of letting you know the status of the power outage via email and text.

2) Making payments on their website is very fast. You have the choice of making payments month by month or having recurring payments done.

Minuses:

1) They are a monopoly, always constantly trying to get the MPSC to raise rates. Would be nice if there was competition to low rates and improve service.

2) They claim on their website that I would cut my monthly cost $25 a month by choosing their 11 AM to 7 PM peak hour plan, which is BS, because the peak hours have the highest rates. We are retirees and are at home most of the time, so the current plan of 3 PM To 7 PM peak hour plan is less expensive.

3) DTE doesn't offer email or fax communication. They expect you to call and talk to a customer rep.

4) My current bill is $181.68, the highest ever in the 2 1/2 years we lived here.

5) Sometimes DTE will bill for as much as 33 days, like this month, which increases the bill at least 10% over using a 30 day billing period. They do this to pad their profits, in my opinion.

Dte is only in this for how much money to be made..reminds me of greed of America series...white collar greed filling the pockets of the Ceo board body. While the public struggle to pay the rate increases over the last few years, 3yrs and counting, always asking for rate increases..where's the ceiling? My elderly family members taking through the system in order to beg for help already low income..Dte is the real criminal and scrooge! Tree's still sitting in middle of street and can't travel normal because the tree fell during Strom 3 days ago. Government assistance is needed against these unfair thefts from Dte!

Your truck has been blocking my driveway for an hour. At some point I need to leave my house. I finally went out there for the fifth time and took photos of the truck, license plate, etc.. That got there attention and they finally moved it. What are you guys thinking blocking someone’s driveway and leaving the vehicle?

Lost electricity twice a week

Lost electricity on Wed 8/13/25 at night for a few hours. DTE in text stated outage in Novi Michigan was due to wind. We had light wind, 8-10 mph.

Sunday 8/16/25 at 7:10 am, lost electricity again. I report the outage to DTE power outage site. It says there is no outage. I resubmit the outage and it says outage was fixed on Wednesday. I re-resubmit and it says further investigation is required. We got power back around 8:30 am.

The outage website has no idea their customers lost power. And lose power twice in a week?

Blindsided by a Hidden Deadline: DTE Energy's 2PM Payment Trap

DTE Energy’s hidden policy requiring payment by 2pm for same-day credit is both misleading and unfair, especially since it's not printed on bills or clearly communicated to customers. When I called after 2pm on the due date to make payment, I was told it wouldn’t count for that day and I'd be removed from my plan. Shockingly, the Executive Customer Service team admitted they didn’t reach out to offer help—only to inform me the plan was canceled. This lack of transparency and unwillingness to resolve the issue reflects poor customer service and accountability.

Worst power company in the US

Worst power company in the US. I have lived in 18 states and 8 countries. The only place with a worse grid is St Martin which runs on a single oil powered plant with that fuel brought in via ship. They have an excuse, DTE does not. And the utility commission should all be put in jail for allowing this mess to continue for decades.

My favorite had to be being out for 6 days to get a single fuse on the terminal pole that serves my house (only 2K customers were out). I thought it had gotten better. I actually did not pillage them when they paid for feedback last week. I actually thought yesterday, wow its better. Then last night the power goes out. 0.4% of customers (out of 2.3 million) and its going to take a day+ to fix it. Their own system says its only 4 houses in my area (ie the problem has self identified itself on a line 2 houses down, I guess I know the lines better then they do). I have a lineman 5 houses away. Send him.

This company is just irredeemable. They are literally going to be a major contributor to me leaving the area. Hopefully when I sell I get the money back that I literally had to piss away for a whole house generator.

Cant say enough negative things about this organization.

1% of us don’t count

August 2022 my power was out for four days. When service was returned, my dryer was fried and my generator, on minimal functions, used $100 of gas. DTE reimbursed $38.
August 2024 my power was out from Tuesday 5pm until Friday 2am. On Thursday my generator registered low voltage. I was rejected for reimbursement because less than 1% were affected. Nice to know that 1% of us aren’t important.
I called DTE about my low voltage issue. They wrote a ticket and then sent me an email voiding the ticket but to let them know about future issues.
Who needs great service with treatment like this.

Smart meter not smart!

I am upset that I have never missed a payment and always paid my bill in full. Today I receive 3 bills and one saying Total charges: $596.79 😳. How? I have a smart meter! Everything was estimated, weird bc the DTE app I use showed the balance I owed and I paid it in full! I tried to upload my bill to show everything but it exceeds the limit. I am disgusted that I am stuck with DTE and not happy! Between service hours and the fact peak hours is when everyone comes home to cook and unwind. Thanks for being family friendly!

Don't expect energy from DTE

DtE overcharges and underperformed. They should implement root cause analysis, 5 why or six sigma to try and meet customer expectations. For 300 to 400 a month paid on a small condo, with frequent power outages that damage personal electronics they should fire themselves.

DTE is Getting Worse and Worse Every Month

DTE made our Electric bill almost $900 Last Summer and it was a nightmare with frequent power outages and rate hikes, I did everything as recommended and I still got hit with High electric bills. Faulty equipment and lack of preparedness for severe weather like what occurred a month ago in Michigan and Ohio in which First Energy known as Ohio Edison was way more prepared for power outages in Ohio than DTE was in Michigan. DTE had more outages than Ohio after last month's severe weather outbreak and Power was rapidly restored in Ohio in just 48 Hours while DTE took 5-7 days to restore power to parts of Michigan. The equipment needs to be upgraded and the rate hikes need to stop as more and more people are becoming homeless as the bills keep climbing. It will definitely get worse this winter when people don't have enough money to even afford food for Christmas this year. Don't say it's because of climate change, because you still use natural gas which is still a fossil fuel and you are still contributing to climate change. I wish that I could install a whole house generator or go solar.

Reporting record profits for 2022 and then raising pricing for consumers drastically in 2023. And trying to justify that by saying that someone asked them to do so... People are not that stupid.

DTE :the most awful utility with highest rates, lowest reliability!

Mpsc Case Number U-21297

Recently, the watchdog group Citizens Utility Board of Michigan ranked the state’s utility companies among the least reliable in the nation, and in its most recent report, consumer website Choose Energy ranked DTE Energy dead last for reliability. Last year, responding to mounting public frustration with DTE and Consumers Energy, the Michigan Public Service Commission ordered an independent audit into the reliability of the companies’ infrastructure. The results of the investigation have yet to be made public.

To add insult to injury, Michiganians pay some of the nation’s highest rates for these subpar services, and over the last decade or so DTE Energy and Consumers have increased residents’ costs by 50% while costs for industrial customers remained flat — and the companies’ executives take in millions in compensation.
