Very Disappointing Experience – Unprofessional Customer Service

I am writing this review to share my deeply disappointing experience at Radiology and Nuclear Medicine – Auf der Bult, Janusz-Korczak-Allee 14, 30173 Hannover.

I scheduled a routine screening mammogram about a week in advance as a private-pay patient. Before my appointment, I repeatedly tried to obtain the cost of the examination. Neither the staff over the phone nor anyone at the clinic could provide a price. After doing my own research, I found that private screening mammograms in Germany typically cost around €150–200. To avoid any misunderstanding, a German friend even visited the clinic in person the day before my appointment to confirm both my appointment and the expected cost.

I am visiting from the United States and speak English, although I understand some German.

Following the clinic’s instructions, my husband and I arrived one hour early. Unfortunately, our experience began with a receptionist who was dismissive, impatient, and openly hostile. She initially claimed she could not find my appointment and abruptly told us to sit down.

After nearly an hour of waiting, she informed us that she had contacted the administrative office regarding the cost. We were then told the examination would cost €500, payable before the procedure. When my husband, who speaks German, politely explained that we had been consistently told to expect a fee closer to €150–200, the receptionist raised her voice and spoke to us in an argumentative and disrespectful manner instead of calmly explaining the reason for the difference.

The issue was never just the price. Costs can vary, and that can be explained professionally. The real issue was the complete lack of courtesy, empathy, and respect.

As a Black woman, I left this facility feeling humiliated and questioning whether I was treated differently because of my race. I cannot know the staff’s intentions, but that is genuinely how the interaction made me feel. No patient should leave a healthcare facility feeling unwelcome or degraded.

Healthcare begins with compassion and respect. Reception staff represent the entire practice, and patients—regardless of their language, nationality, or skin color—deserve to be treated with dignity.

I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and provides meaningful customer service and cultural sensitivity training for its front-desk staff.

Sadly, based on my experience, I cannot recommend this facility.

Promoting the worst doctors

I came in on a Monday morning without an appointment, following an emergency hospital visit over the weekend. Despite having no prior booking, Dr. Dirks agreed to see me promptly. He conducted a thorough examination including reflex tests, sensitivity assessment, and a nerve conduction study. He communicated clearly in English throughout, explained everything patiently, and provided a clear diagnosis and reassurance. The reception team was also helpful and efficient. I would strongly recommend this practice to anyone needing neurological assessment in Hamburg.

This app is only good for booking and managing appointments. For every other information regarding your doctor, please patients double check and see the doctor's reviews on Google or some other place you like. Because Doctolib does not have accurate information.

I speak from experience, I booked an appointment with a gynecologist, who was available on doctolib app, and it was mentioned she speaks English and German both.

I booked this appointment 1 year ago with her, just ONLY BECAUSE she could speak English and German.

But to my surprise, I was utterly humiliated when she first came into the examination room. She kept shutting me up with German, I kept saying English please, English bitte, Sprechen Sie English, nothing continues blabbing in German.

Later she switched to English, and was just saying random stuff.
I was asking her something else and telling me totally opposite answers in English.
This could lead to HIGHLY MISDIAGNOSIS.
I am glad my mother and sister are doctors, and I knew what she was telling me was not the right answer, so I hurriedly opened my Google Translate and started asking her in German, to which she then gave a correct reply in English.

But it should be the DOCTLIB's JOB to verify that the doctors claiming to speak English can actually speak and understand English, because I waited an ENTIRE YEAR for this appointment, and she could not even speak ENGLISH?

And this is not disturbing me only because she could not speak English, it is also that may be many doctors who have listed that they are expert in different areas, might not even be expert in those areas, because Doctolib does not verify anything.

So yes, book your appointments, but patients should do their own research.

The service is of minor importance as the date are far ahead of my pain. To call directly doctors is much faster. At doctolib you stay long in the line to get a date (if any) far in the future. Sorry, that is not helping at all.

It is your lifeline for scheduling doctors if you're not fluent in German or can't spend time calling practices or visiting them in person. However, it really sucks how the experience is structured. You get many steps deep only to findout the doc does not take new patients or patients with your type of insurance.

I am tired of having only german language option. Especially in big cities, there are millions of people who cant speak German. Having an English language option in the app shouldn’t be that difficult

My biggest issue is how incredibly hard it is to find a doctor that accepts public insurance. When I filter my search to show only doctors that accept public insurance, 7 out of 10 times I get doctors that list themselves that way, but once you try and book an appointment they reveal that they only accept private insurance or self pay. It's dishonest and makes me not want to use the service. I've actually just started Googling doctors and calling them directly because of how bad the booking is on Doctolib. If there was a way to report these doctors that misrepresent themselves, I would gladly do it.

the best thing about doctolib is that it finds you an appointment for you in the needed time and if you activate notifications you can get notified if there is any availability of appointments!

Everything was good . Doctor communication and guidance is very clear and I was listened carefully.

Finding a doctor in Berlin for a particular alignment can be tricky at times and even more challenging other times. What I like about Doctolib are the reminders for certain checkups like:-the post 35 health check-up, regular immunisation for children, regular dental care visits, among other health related things to remember. On the whole I find Doctolib useful for this purpose. I haven’t given the app the full 5 starts as not only specialisms are listed with sufficient medical practitioners. It is worth remembering that if you have health insurance (public in my case) they also provide a search for doctors in your chosen/needed specialism.
