great service and fast pickup thank u Lothar
Further to my earlier review, which Autovia have not responded to. they are now threatening to take more money from me. They have not responded to my request for a copy of the repairers invoice and photographs to prove that the car has been repaired. The only response has been threats. Treat this firm with extreme caution.

The car rental company met my expectations with fast and friendly service. It's just a shame the windshield washer fluid was missing and the inside of the windows were very dirty.

Easy pick up and return. Accepted the fact we had our own insurance which is a breath of fresh air when dealing with car hire companies these days. Car was great and friendly staff

We rented a car through the company in Pisa.
First of all, it was not clear when booking that the driver and the Mastercard had to match – the booking should have failed when the details did not match. However, this is probably where they make their money, as they force people to pay for insurance that is more expensive than the actual rental.....
Besides that, we were supposed to return the car at another airport, which we entered in the booking and which increased the price significantly. However, when we arrived, we were forced to pay an additional €91 to have the car driven back, which had not been clearly stated anywhere.
It ended up being a very expensive experience, and I would not recommend anyone to book a car through this company. We were not the only ones having problems, and it seemed like the staff at the counter were amused by people's frustration.

UPDATE: Money taken despite my formal dispute
When I returned the vehicle, there was nobody outside to inspect it, so I handed the keys to the representative at the booth as instructed. Before leaving, I specifically went back and asked whether everything was completed and whether the car was okay. I was clearly told, “Yes, everything is fine—no problem.”
I therefore did not simply “walk away,” as Autovia originally suggested. I left only after their representative confirmed that everything was satisfactory. I subsequently received an email alleging a minor scratch and an invoice for €190.96, which I formally disputed.
Autovia supplied photographs at the beginning of this matter. However, the images are unclear and, in my opinion, do not definitively show the alleged scratch for which I am being charged. I cannot clearly identify what they are referring to from the photographs provided. I therefore requested further photographs and clearer evidence, together with the relevant return records, but I have not received a proper response to that request.
Autovia has now replied publicly to my Trustpilot review but has still not properly answered my email or contacted me directly regarding the dispute. Its public response acknowledges that being told everything was fine and then receiving a damage charge appears inconsistent. It also states that the matter should be assessed using the return records and photographic or technical evidence.
Despite the photographic evidence remaining unclear and my request for better proof being unanswered, Autovia has now taken the full €190.96 from my credit card while the charge remains formally disputed.
A public response on Trustpilot is not a substitute for responding directly to the customer and properly addressing the evidence requested. I am now disputing the payment through American Express and raising the matter with Ryanair Car Hire.
I remain extremely disappointed with how this has been handled. I will never use Autovia again and advise others to be very cautious.

Extremely deceptive and unprofessional business practices by Autovia and Ecovia in Puglia. I paid a premium total of €700 for a 7 day rental, averaging €100 daily which included third-party (DiscoverCars) Full Coverage Insurance and a €95 one-way drop-off fee from Brindisi Airport to Bari Airport. I contractually booked a mid-tier family Compact SUV (Ford Puma). Instead, they forced us into a low-spec, stripped-down commercial passenger delivery van (Ford Tourneo) with boxy sliding doors and absolutely zero factory navigation software. Navigating an unfamiliar delivery van through a foreign country on unknown roads with no built-in dashboard maps is stressful.
Since the insurance was through the booking platform, the agent informed me at the desk that any potential damage would have to be paid out-of-pocket first and then reimbursed. However, receiving such a low-spec vehicle for premium SUV pricing is completely unacceptable.
Worse yet, out of the money paid at the desk, €160 was an itemized premium fee specifically for two child safety seats. In return, they handed us a generic black seat and a worn, completely unpadded blue plastic booster sleeve. This booster retails brand new in local Italian shops for under €15. Charging a family €160 for €30 worth of cheap, substandard plastic equipment is an outrageous and unfair overcharge for a family safety feature. Do not trust their 'upgrade' or 'similar vehicle' excuses. They pocket premium money for family SUVs and hand you rock-bottom commercial delivery vans. If you are traveling to Puglia with children, avoid Autovia and Ecovia at all costs.

Very pleasant experience. Got upgraded to a much better (practically brand new) car for free. Staff was very polite and helpful. No issues with booking or extra charges.

This review concerns the Autovia Palermo Airport desk that handled my collection on 8 August 2026. I arrived on time with my passport, driving licence and original physical UK American Express card. The card was in my name but, as is standard on many UK Amex cards, it displayed my first-name initial and surname. The desk refused to release the prepaid vehicle solely because my first name was not printed in full.
I received no vehicle, keys or practical alternative assistance. My family was left stranded and I had to arrange an emergency replacement rental costing £1,515.65. The replacement company accepted the same card without difficulty.
Regardless of the booking intermediary, refusing a prepaid vehicle over this card-name format—with no workable solution at the desk—was an extremely stressful and expensive experience. Customers using UK-issued Amex cards should obtain written confirmation before travelling that the precise printed name format will be accepted.

Everything went well with the rental. Car was lovely and service was good. Gentleman on counter was helpful although both times went there he was alone, so we had to wait a bit.

I booked car hire via Ryan AIr with Autovia/Ecovia. However when I presented at Autovia/Ecovia desk at Pisa Airport their representative refused to release car at the airport desk on pretext that they claimed my credit card to be used for deposit payment was from a “digital bank”. All other documentation was in order and not disputed eg credit card in my name as lead driver, valid confirmation email and valid ID.
However credit card presented was a VISA physical card, was not virtual payment card and is not issued by a “digital bank” as confirmed by my credit card company. I have used this credit card without any issue for previous car hire in the past including at Pisa Airport. The rental agreement received from Ryan Air furthermore makes no reference to “digital banks” as not being acceptable
Autovia/Ecovia therefore had no right to refuse my card.
What is a significant concern is that Autovia/Ecovia representative at the desk at Pisa was then prepared to release the car if I was prepared to pay a non-refundable “protection fee” of €300 to Autovia/Ecovia using the very same VISA credit card which they had earlier refused. I was appalled by this. This is at best poor practice and at worst potentially fraudulent.
To add to the extremely stressful experience Autovia/Ecovia representative was unhelpful and unsympathetic throughout.
We were forced to hire a car with another company at the airport at a much higher rate. This other car hire company had no problems accepting the very same credit card which Autovia/Ecovia had earlier refused
I have contacted Autovia Customer care direct but to date I have only received a perfunctory AI generated response from them saying that they will look into this incident.
A truly appalling experience from the start which has has ruined my vacation.
1/5 star rating is the lowest I was able to give in order to leave a review but if given the choice I would have given 0/5.

Awful experience. They would not accept a Revolut Mastercard as this "was not a real bank" and tried to charge us 48 Euro extra per day. The lady in Sardinia Cagliari airport was incredibly rude and told us to wait for 1 hour for the manager. Would not recommend. Useless

The experience was very good. The pick-up and drop-off process was very quick and straightforward. The staff were also very helpful and professional. Most importantly, they don’t try to surprise you with hidden or extra charges when you return the vehicle. Very professional and trustworthy.
