Overall quite content
I bought 4 different dresses from Daughters of India and am now giving them a whirl so to speak to see how they wear.
Multiple people have commented on the 'disappointing' quality of the fabric and I can see where they are coming from IF they are basing their opinion on the weight of the fabric which is notably airy and delicate (they maybe were expecting something heavier).
All 4 of my dresses feel a bit different in terms of fabric softness as well. I bought 2 Kyra styles/colours and the softness was very different. The apricot maxi was much softer than the jade midi which feels quite starched and 'crisp'. I was told that because of the artisanal style, the cottons that are used can vary and that the stiffer ones will soften in time. The dress is still very pretty so I am opting to keep it.
A good number of the dresses can be see through at least in part (mostly the bottom half), and for this I bought a simple and very lightweight cotton slip which works well.
I do understand why the dresses are so thin though...if the fabric were any thicker it does not seem like it would flow or poof in the same ways at all. The dress is like wearing a mist if mists could be fabric. Voile is definitely the correct descriptor of fabric. Now that Switzerland is over 30C with loads of humidity, I am grateful that the fabric is not any heavier. These dresses let your body breathe which is amazing and I love that. I also love the flowy, feminine styles and I have gotten several compliments already though I just started wearing them.
I have noticed that some of the finishing touches (e.g. the triangles at the end of the ties) are not 100% perfect but at the same time, it feels really handmade and there has not been anything particularly serious.
One also has to hand wash the dresses which might not be everyone's cup of tea. And due to the delicateness of the fabric, I think the dresses are probably a bit 'fragile' and so care must be taken when worn and washed.
For me personally, customer service has been impeccable. They have responded very quickly to my emails, Facebook comments and Messenger messages and they are always so friendly, never snarky or difficult. I was not aware that one could not get a refund but only credit, so I have learned something by reading other reviews.
Fortunately, their size chart has worked perfectly for me.
I am eyeing at least 2 more dresses from them. If I find issues with their wear, I will submit another review, but for now, I am definitely quite content and happy with my purchases. And I feel like a princess in them. :)
(worth noting that I have never bought so many dresses from one company - so that says a lot too)
