Update 2026-10-22: re-derived on node 26.12.1 / node-lts 24.22.1 (#968)

#968 merged first, with nodejs.org as the source for both lines and no carried patches. This branch merged main (8424eab) and re-derived every pin from the 26.12.1 / 24.22.1 trees (b0ec739). The versions are forwarded from build.ncl (undici, undici_llhttp, npm_undici, amaro), so a bump is one edit.

node node-lts source of truth
node 26.10.0 -> 26.12.1 24.19.0 -> 24.22.1 main (#968), nodejs.org SHASUMS256
deps/undici 8.10.2 -> 8.12.2 7.29.0 -> 7.30.1 deps/undici/src/package.json
llhttp 9.3.1 (same) 9.3.0 (same) deps/undici/src/deps/llhttp/include/llhttp.h
npm undici 6.28.0 (same) 6.26.0 -> 6.28.0 deps/npm/node_modules/undici/package.json
amaro 1.1.11 (same) 1.1.10 -> 1.1.11 deps/amaro/package.json
shipped undici.js blobs ab4573a0 / 18403ee5 (unchanged) 57184a16 / 2434215e (unchanged) decoded from deps/undici/undici.js
shipped npm llhttp blobs b96063c7 / 989f2025 (unchanged) same (6.26.0 and 6.28.0 ship identical blobs) decoded
shipped amaro blob 79c79a0b (unchanged) 8d7f6dd7 -> 79c79a0b decoded from deps/amaro/dist/index.js

So the decoded blobs did not change for the undici bumps; only the version tripwires and node-lts's amaro pin moved. Two upstream changes needed tool fixes:

  • undici 8.12 renamed build/wasm.js to build/llhttp.js, with the same pinned flag lines. rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py accepts exactly one of the two; the selftest covers the rename and both-or-neither.
  • undici 8.12 vendors milo (a Rust HTTP parser) as two base64 wasm carriers in deps/undici/src/lib/milo/{simd,no-simd}.js (2833147b, ac630779). node's bundled undici.js compiles milo out (var { H1Parser, getMiloEnabled } = false ? null : {}), so they are never installed; node's build.sh deletes them before the census, like undici's own llhttp source blobs. Negative control: with them present, the pre-build census fails naming exactly those two.
  • amaro-wasm now builds 1.1.11 only.

Evidence (remote session n817 on b0ec739, fresh activate, --rebuild):

  • llhttp-wasm-rebuild (selftest pass), amaro-wasm (528 crates; two builds at different paths, cmp equal, f063fb73), node-lts (19m48s), node (22m13s), next: all built.
  • node and node-lts: 5/5 splices, pre-build census PASS (23,865 / 21,072 files, 5 blobs), type stripping ran on the rebuilt amaro, smoke (each llhttp blob's llhttp_execute, npm undici require, loopback fetch), installed census PASS (2,039 / 2,093 files, 5 blobs + V8's two allowed type-only modules).
  • next: 8/8 edge-runtime splices, census PASS (10,333 files, 8 blobs), smoke and edge-runtime load.
  • min check for node, node-lts, next, llhttp-wasm-rebuild, amaro-wasm, wasi-libc, wasm-bindgen-cli: every check Pass, no Skip (standalone tests included).
  • Rebuilt shas: node llhttp 6c4db389 / f6e5cb72; node-lts llhttp a5626a0b / 178810b2; npm-undici pair 7101c008 / 81e5e1c1, identical across node, node-lts and next; amaro f063fb73, identical in node and node-lts. They do not equal upstream's bytes (upstream runs binaryen wasm-opt; we do not), as stated below.
  • tls-trust harness (pkgs#976's tests/tls-trust, [upstream] pinned to b0ec739): live and offline, node 26.12.1 and node-lts 24.22.1, rows node, node-sysca, node-blocklist (live) all FIXED; SELFTEST FIXED, NEGCONTROL VULNERABLE in every run.
  • CI on b0ec739: minimal build (18m21s), minimal-check, closure, reports, CodeRabbit all pass.

#966 (merged 10-23): next/build.sh uses #966's $BUILD_ROOT, and next's census runs after the SWC addon and sharp install, with one explicit --allow-path for the x64 addon's embedded wasm module (upstream's sha-pinned prebuilt; #985 tracks building it from source). #1133 (merged since): node and node-lts trust the system CA store; 0b373db merges it, and its --openssl-use-def-ca-store, ca-certificates runtime dep and system_ca_store_default test sit alongside the splices and censuses unchanged.

What

packages/node (26.12.1) and packages/node-lts (24.22.1) each ship five foreign WebAssembly binaries, carried as base64 inside JS:
the llhttp parser pair js2c'd into usr/bin/node (undici 8.12.2; node-lts 7.30.1), the older pair in npm's
vendored undici (6.28.0 in both), and amaro's swc TypeScript stripper (1.1.11 in both). This PR rebuilds all of them from the in-tree llhttp C with our clang and
splices them in, so neither package ships wasm we did not compile.

  • New packages/wasi-libc (tag wasi-sdk-21 = the 0.20231215 libc upstream's builder used),
built with our clang. CPU pinned to -mcpu=mvp -mmutable-globals, because clang 21's default
turns on features the shipped blobs never used. Tests: no_bulk_memory, reactor_link.

  • New packages/llhttp-wasm-rebuild: ships rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py (stdlib Python) once, runs its
selftest at build time, and is a build dep of both node packages. Local files cannot reach outside
their package directory, so this replaces two identical copies.

  • packages/node, packages/node-lts: the script does the following:

    • pins the undici and llhttp versions and the build/wasm.js flags;
    • builds plain and simd blobs with --no-wasm-opt;
    • gates each rebuilt blob: import and export names must equal the shipped blob's, and it may
      use no wasm feature the shipped blob lacks;
    • splices each sha-pinned shipped blob exactly once;
    • runs a census before and after the build that fails on any wasm carrier it did not rebuild.

Never-installed copies are deleted (undici's own src/lib/llhttp blobs, and on node 26 the two
    src/lib/milo carriers undici 8.12 vendors, which node's bundled undici.js compiles out). amaro's
    module is rebuilt from swc by packages/amaro-wasm and spliced the same way (no --without-amaro;
    the next line is historical),
    which is another foreign wasm.

  • packages/next (16.4.1, via a merge of main): its edge runtime carries npm-undici's llhttp pair
(the same shas node's npm undici ships) base64 in four files: edge-runtime/index.js,
@edge-runtime/primitives/{fetch,load}.js and @vercel/blob/index.cjs. The pair is rebuilt from
undici-6.28.0 (already mirrored) and spliced 8 times. A census over the installed next tree then
allows the rebuilt blobs plus an exact-path list of the wasm that is still upstream's: @mswjs llhttp
(test mode), og resvg/yoga, webpack and loader-utils xxhash64/md4, source-map08. Any new carrier
    fails the build.
Checked on the npm-published 16.4.1 installed tree: 8/8 splices, CENSUS PASS files=10336 blobs=8,
smoke passes and the edge runtime loads.

  • Post-install census: allows exactly the 4 rebuilt blobs. It also allows exactly 2 bare
    wasm headers in usr/bin/node, --allow-raw usr/bin/node=2. Those are V8's
Runtime_WasmArray/Runtime_WasmStruct test modules (runtime-test-wasm.cc), which hold
only a type section and no code.

Decisions

  • Not in scope: next still ships the prebuilt @next/swc-linux-* native binary (~90 MB, Rust), which
npm installs as an optional dependency. Rooting it means building next's napi crate from source, a
    nightly-Rust job tracked separately.

  • Blobs will not match upstream bytes, because upstream runs binaryen wasm-opt. The guarantee
is: rebuilt from source, self-reproducible, same imports, exports and features.

  • node x.ts type stripping is dropped. Superseded: amaro is rebuilt from swc (packages/amaro-wasm), so type stripping stays; type_strip tests cover it.

  • llhttp.c/.h are accepted as self-emitted source: they are llparse output, the same class as
    npm's dist JS.

  • node-lts is included. 20 packages import it, so merging cold-rebuilds them and their dependents.

  • The node-lts Source moves to the staging mirror. Reverted per review: since Update node to 26.12.1 and node-lts to 24.22.1 (security; upstream eMudhra fix, drop carried patches) #968 both node and node-lts use the nodejs.org release tarball.

Evidence (lab, cg-fresh amd64)

  • P0 probe node-wasm-probe-v2.sh:

    • Result: NW2_P0_OK PINS_OK NO_LEXER FLAGS_OK SYSROOT_OK RT_UNNEEDED TABLES_OK SMOKE_OK DET_OK SPLICE_OK RECIPE_OK NPM_UNDICI_LOADED.
    • DET: 18 artifacts are byte-identical when rebuilt at another path.
    • Oracle: the upstream wasm-builder image reproduces the shipped blobs from the same in-tree C.
  • P1 recipe rehearsal node26-rehearsal.sh, three cold rounds:

    • Result: NR_OK SELFTEST_OK SPLICE4_OK CENSUS2_OK SMOKE_OK HOSTCC_GCC AUDIT_NO_BUILDDEP_LEAK TS_REJECTED RUN_OK.
    • Smoke: each blob passes llhttp_execute, npm's undici loads, and fetch() works over loopback.
    • The output trees are byte-identical across rounds: 2053 files; usr/bin/node sha256 7f35a860…
  • P2 runtime-deps audit:

    • node needs nothing from wasi-libc or llvm at runtime.
    • No installed file names their paths.
    • Every remaining soname is in the declared runtime_deps.
  • With our clang (NR_CLANG=pkgs, the default):

    • The rehearsal builds wasi-libc and the blobs with the signed pkgs llvm-21.1.8 artifact. It is
      sha-checked against its in-toto subject (f9ccbdd4…), and its inputs are gcc-15.2.0 / glibc-bedrock.
    • Result: NR_OK for node and node-lts.
    • All 8 blobs and both whole output trees are byte-identical to the builds with apt.llvm.org's
clang-21. Two independently built clangs agree.
    • Only the intermediate libc.a differs, and the objects llhttp links from it come out identical.
  • Lab-only stand-ins, logged by the rehearsal:

    • Debian trixie's libuv, nghttp2, nghttp3, ngtcp2 and sqlite are older than node 26 needs,
so node's bundled copies stand in for them.
    • pkgs' own LIEF 1.0.0 recipe is built first, because Debian has no LIEF.
  • node-lts rehearsal (same script with NR_PKG=node-lts):

    • Result: NR_OK, with the same gates.
    • Two cold rounds are byte-identical: 2102 files; usr/bin/node 2174f84e…
    • The same two V8 test modules appear.

Before merge

  • Sources mirrored into staging-archives and read back with matching sha256: wasi-libc-wasi-sdk-21.tar.gz,
    undici-6.28.0.tar.gz, undici-6.26.0.tar.gz, node-v24.19.0.tar.gz.
  • pkgs#761 landed (node-runtime-guard shim).
  • minimal build green on 029f3df (before the script moved into its own package and next joined).
  • minimal build green on the new head.

Keep one copy of the rebuild tool, or enforce equality.

Both packages include identical copies of the same rebuild tool. A future gate fix can update one copy and leave the other package weaker.

The build declarations currently load a package-local rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py. Use a shared path only if Local supports it. Otherwise, add a repository check:

node and node-lts each carried an identical rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py (Local
files cannot reach outside the package directory). Ship it once as a
build-time package, run its selftest there, and depend on it from both.

The edge runtime bundles undici 6's llhttp pair as base64 in four files.
Rebuild it from undici 6.28.0's C with our clang and wasi-libc, splice
it over the sha-pinned shipped blobs, and census the installed tree so
any wasm not on the exact-path allowlist fails the build.

The rebuild machinery is careful:

  • Each blob is compiled twice and must match, with -ffile-prefix-map, --no-wasm-opt and pinned wasi-libc features.
  • Each splice is sha-pinned and gated on matching imports, exports and features.
  • A before/after census fails on any wasm left un-rebuilt.
  • The node-lts runtime rules still hold.

One small fix, plus questions:

Fix

  • The open CodeRabbit thread on packages/wasi-libc/build.sh:37-38 is valid. The tarball contains libc-bottom-half/cloudlibc/LICENSE (BSD-2-Clause) and libc-top-half/musl/COPYRIGHT (MIT), but only the top-level license files are installed. Please add those two to the cp.

Smaller

  • Versions are typed twice: NPM_UNDICI / UNDICI in the build.sh files repeat the build.ncl variable. Forward them through build_args so a bump is one edit.
  • wasi-libc's url points only at our mirror. A comment naming the upstream tag archive would make it auditable.
  • minimal build took ~19 min, which is short for a cold node build. Please confirm node and node-lts really rebuilt rather than coming from cache. Squash on merge (there's a merge-from-main commit).

Questions

  • --wi 8000 thout-amaro drops node foo.ts type-stripping in both node 26 and node-lts 24. That's a default, user-visible runtime feature. Can we keep it, or is there a reason it has to go?
  • llvm becomes a build dep of node, node-lts and next, so every llvm bump cascades through the whole Node ecosystem. Is that cost acceptable, or should the wasm be built in a separately cached step?

Brings in #946 (CVE-2026-111943 eMudhra backports for node and node-lts).
Both sides kept: the two carried patches, their fail-closed greps and the
standalone tests from #946, then this branch's llhttp wasm rebuild. The
patches apply before the wasm census, which they do not touch.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- wasi-libc: install the bundled cloudlibc LICENSE (BSD-2-Clause) and musl
COPYRIGHT (MIT) next to the top-level licenses, renamed to
  LICENSE-cloudlibc / COPYRIGHT-musl because cloudlibc's file is also
  called LICENSE.
- wasi-libc: comment on the Source naming the upstream tag archive and how
to audit the mirror (sha256, and git get-tar-commit-id = the tag commit).
- node, node-lts: forward npm_undici through build_args
(MINIMAL_ARG_NPM_UNDICI); next: forward undici (MINIMAL_ARG_UNDICI). The
version is now written once, in build.ncl.

Thanks @norrietaylor. I pushed two commits: f2d7660 merges main, and 83f9831 addresses the review. There was no force-push, so the branch still needs squash-on-merge.

Merge of main (#946). #946's CVE-2026-111943 changes conflicted with this branch in node{,-lts}/build.{ncl,sh}. Both sides are kept:

  • The two cve-2026-111943-*.patch Locals, the patch dep and the fail-closed greps all survive, and so do the emsign_roots_removed and spki_blocklist_rejects_emudhra_intermediate tests.
  • The patches apply first, then the llhttp rebuild runs. The patches touch only src/crypto, src/node_root_certs.h and a test file, so the census is unaffected.
  • Checks run: nickel format --check and bash -n on every touched file. MINIMAL_SCIENCE_MODE=1 mip dump --packages evaluates on amd64 (624 packages) and arm64 (622).

Fix

  • wasi-libc licenses: done. libc-bottom-half/cloudlibc/LICENSE and libc-top-half/musl/COPYRIGHT now install as LICENSE-cloudlibc and COPYRIGHT-musl. They are renamed because cloudlibc's file is also called LICENSE and would overwrite the top-level one. I replied on the CodeRabbit thread and resolved it.

Smaller

  • Versions typed twice: done.

    • node and node-lts forward npm_undici through build_args, and build.sh reads ${MINIMAL_ARG_NPM_UNDICI:?…}.
    • next forwards undici as MINIMAL_ARG_UNDICI.
    • The Source URL and the script both use the one value. A bump still needs the Source sha256 and the splice shas re-derived, but those are new facts, not repeats.
    • mip dump shows the args: node {version: 26.10.0, npm_undici: 6.28.0}, node-lts {24.19.0, 6.26.0}, next {16.4.1, undici: 6.28.0}.
  • wasi-libc url: added a comment naming https://github.com/WebAssembly/wasi-libc/archive/refs/tags/wasi-sdk-21.tar.gz and how to audit the mirror:

    • Compare the sha256.
    • The file is a git archive, so gunzip -c … | git get-tar-commit-id must print the tag's commit.
    • I ran the second check on the mirrored object: it prints c5264e2bbe532994d06b039005f2af91bedcc1a6, which is what refs/tags/wasi-sdk-21 resolves to on GitHub.
  • Were node and node-lts really rebuilt? Yes, fresh on both arches. From build-bot's journal (Cloud Logging, minimal-prod-builds), run 17f618a2 on head 26aa7e31 (pr_number=817) succeeded in 1157 s. Its 60 build.completed events all have full_build=true. The relevant ones:

    package amd64 (c4-standard-96) arm64 (c4a-standard-48)
    node 616 s 748 s
    node-lts 392 s 594 s
    next 197 s 205 s
    wasi-libc 5 s 5 s

The 19 minutes is short because:

    • The two arches build in parallel on separate res-servers.
    • The build phase (1054 s) is roughly one arch's critical path: wasi-libc, then node (~12.5 min on arm64), then next and node's dependents (~1–1.5 min each).
    • node uses the shared system libraries (openssl, icu, libuv, nghttp*, sqlite, lief…), so the compile is mostly V8 plus node core.

This head adds commits, so the next run rebuilds everything again. I'll check that run's events the same way.

Questions

  • --without-amaro. amaro is node's TypeScript type-stripper, and it is itself a foreign wasm blob.

    • What it ships: in node 26.10.0, deps/amaro/dist/index.js (amaro 1.1.11) carries one base64 module: 2,835,185 bytes, sha256 79c79a0b…. Its producers section reads wasm-bindgen 0.2.100, walrus 0.23.3. That is @swc/wasm-typescript: swc's Rust compiled to wasm32-unknown-unknown.

    • Why rebuilding is not small: it would need a pkgs rust that builds the wasm32-unknown-unknown std (our packages/rust/bootstrap.toml builds only the two linux host targets), a wasm-bindgen-cli pinned to 0.2.100, and the vendored swc crate graph. That is a new ladder, the same class of work as @next/swc.

    • Why the census rejects it: it is a wasm carrier this PR does not rebuild, so it fails the census, and the PR drops it.

    • What is lost: node x.ts type stripping. It is on by default in both 26 and 24, so the loss is user-visible. The rehearsal's TS_REJECTED gate checks that it fails cleanly. No pkgs package uses it.

    • Options:

      • (a) Keep it dropped (as now).
      • (b) Keep amaro as an explicitly allowlisted foreign blob: an exact path plus sha 79c79a0b… in both censuses. This restores the feature but weakens the PR's claim from "node ships no wasm we did not compile" to "…except amaro, pinned".
      • (c) Rebuild it from source as a follow-up.

      The trade-off between (a) and (b) is Bryan's call. Either way I'd open a follow-up issue for (c).

  • llvm as a build dep (cascade cost). I measured it with mip dump spec hashes by simulating an llvm bump (a one-line edit to packages/llvm/build.sh):

    amd64 arm64
    main: packages an llvm bump rebuilds 243 / 624 237 / 622
    this branch 262 256
    added +19 +19
    • The 19: wasi-libc, node, node-lts, next, and 15 node consumers (bash-language-server, cf, eslint, json-server, lerna, pi, pnpm, prettier, pyright, serve, typescript, typescript-language-server, vlt, wrangler, yarn).
    • Is it already a separately cached step? Partly. llhttp-wasm-rebuild holds only the script (python dep, no llvm), and node runs clang itself.
    • Would a separately cached llhttp-wasm package help? Moving the blob build into one would not cut the cascade, because spec hashes are input-addressed. wasi-libc is already a separately cached package, and the same dump shows its hash change still rebuilds node. The cascade follows the dep edge, not where the compiler runs.
    • The real cut: a fixed-output pin. Mirror the 8 rebuilt blobs (four llhttp pairs: undici 8.10.2, 7.29.0, 6.28.0, 6.26.0) as sha-pinned Sources that node, node-lts and next consume. A small llhttp-wasm package with a test would rebuild them from llvm + wasi-libc and fail if they stop matching the pins. llvm bumps would then rebuild only that package.
    • Its cost: node would consume our earlier output by sha instead of compiling it in its own sandbox. That is a weaker claim, though it is still verified.
    • My recommendation: accept the +19. That is about 8% on top of an llvm bump that already rebuilds about 240 packages, including the rust ladder. I'd revisit the pin only if llvm bumps become frequent. I have not built the pin; say if you want it.

CodeRabbit nitpick (two copies of rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py): already addressed by 021df5a. The only copy is packages/llhttp-wasm-rebuild/rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py. It ships as that package's output, runs its selftest at build time and as a standalone test, and node, node-lts and next call it from /usr/share/llhttp-wasm-rebuild/.

…asm carriers

The installed script runs under python3 in node, node-lts and next, so python is a runtime dep (it
stays a build dep for the build-time selftest). next's census exception for @vercel/og was a glob;
it now names the three files that carry wasm (resvg.wasm, yoga.wasm, and yoga again as base64 in
index.node.js), so a new carrier there fails the build.

amaro is node's built-in TypeScript type stripper (node x.ts), on by default in 24 and 26.
packages/amaro-wasm rebuilds its swc module from the source amaro vendors (rust with -Zbuild-std
for wasm32, llvm's wasm-ld, wasm-bindgen-cli 0.2.100, each module built twice), and node and
node-lts splice it over the sha-pinned shipped blob in deps/amaro/dist/index.js instead of
configuring --without-amaro. The census admits it like the llhttp blobs, a build step and a test
run a .ts file.

rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py splice --wasm-bindgen: wasm-bindgen numbers its closure-wrapper shim after
a function index, so the rebuilt module differs from upstream's in that one import name. The flag
allows exactly that difference (same module, kind and signature), renames the identifier in the
carrier's glue (which must name it exactly once), and admits the features the shipped blob already
uses. Selftests cover both verdicts. Checked against the real carriers: 61 imports and 10 exports
match for amaro 1.1.11 (node 26) and 1.1.10 (node 24).

amaro is back, rebuilt from source (option (c), so node x.ts type stripping works again in node 26 and node-lts 24):

  • packages/wasm-bindgen-cli 0.2.100: built from its crates.io source, --locked.
  • packages/amaro-wasm: builds swc's binding_typescript_wasm from the source amaro vendors (1.1.11 for node, 1.1.10 for node-lts), the way amaro's tools/build-wasm.js does: fat LTO, opt-level=z, wasm-bindgen --target nodejs, no wasm-opt.
    • pkgs' rust 1.99 ships no wasm32 std and no rust-lld, so std is built with -Zbuild-std from the rustc source tarball, and llvm's wasm-ld links.
    • Each module is built twice at different paths and must match.
  • Against upstream's blobs: the same 61 imports and 10 exports, the same sections, and the same set of wasm features. The one difference is the wasm-bindgen closure-wrapper shim, numbered after a function index (__wbindgen_closure_wrapper5465 upstream vs …5484 ours). The glue names it exactly once.
  • rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py splice --wasm-bindgen: admits exactly that one shim difference (same module, kind and signature) and renames it in the carrier's glue, which must name it exactly once. It also admits only features the shipped blob already uses. Selftests cover both verdicts. llhttp's splices keep the strict gate.
  • node and node-lts:
    • --without-amaro is gone. The rebuilt module is spliced over the sha-pinned shipped blob, after checking that deps/amaro is the expected version.
    • The census counts it alongside the llhttp blobs.
    • A build step and a type_strip test run a .ts file.
  • Verified: build-bot run on d964795. amaro-wasm, node and node-lts were all full_build=true on amd64 and arm64.

Also in this push:

  • CodeRabbit's two threads: python is a runtime dep of llhttp-wasm-rebuild, and next's @vercel/og exception now names its three wasm carriers.
  • llvm cascade: accepted, the +19.

#972 tracks the wider node root (stage-1 node regenerating the bundled JS). Two of next's remaining foreign wasm, resvg and source-map, are Rust, so the same wasm32 build can take them.

Heads-up from #966 (next ships the platform @next/swc addon), per review there. Whichever of the two lands second needs to handle both of these:

  1. Merge conflict in packages/next/build.ncl and build.sh. next: ship the platform SWC binary #966 names the source directory BUILD_ROOT="$PWD" and adds the per-arch @next/swc-linux-<arch>-gnu Sources, binary_from and the swc_binary_ships test. This branch names it SRC_ROOT=$PWD. Keep one name; SRC_ROOT is fine, as long as next: ship the platform SWC binary #966's tar -xzf "$BUILD_ROOT/swc-linux-…tgz" line follows it.
  2. One more wasm carrier for the census. The x64 addon embeds exactly one wasm module (a single \0asm header, about 96 MB into next-swc.linux-x64-gnu.node). The arm64 addon embeds none. With both PRs in, $LH census -C "$NEXT_DIR" will reject it on amd64 unless it gets an allowance, e.g.:
    --allow-path 'node_modules/@next/swc-linux-x64-gnu/next-swc.linux-x64-gnu.node'

The addon is upstream's prebuilt, pinned by sha256; the from-source build is tracked in next: build the @next/swc native addon from source (replace the prebuilt in #966) #985.

…24.22.1, #968)

#968 moved both node lines to nodejs.org release tarballs with no carried
patches (the CVE-2026-111943 fixes and LIEF 1.x are upstream). The two
build.ncl conflicts are resolved by taking main's recipe (nodejs.org Source,
no patch Locals, no `patch` dep) and re-applying this branch's additions:
the llvm / wasi-libc / llhttp-wasm-rebuild / amaro-wasm build deps, the
mirrored npm-undici Source, the type_strip test, and the bundled-version
lets, now forwarded through build_args (undici, undici_llhttp, npm_undici,
amaro) and re-derived from the 26.12.1 / 24.22.1 trees. node-lts goes back
to nodejs.org, as review asked. build.sh merged cleanly (main's guards kept).

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
- Versions come from build.ncl (MINIMAL_ARG_UNDICI, _UNDICI_LLHTTP,
_NPM_UNDICI, _AMARO) instead of being typed again in build.sh.
- node: undici 8.10.2 -> 8.12.2 (llhttp 9.3.1). undici 8.12 vendors milo
(Rust) as two base64 wasm carriers in deps/undici/src/lib/milo; node's
bundled undici.js compiles milo out, so like the llhttp source blobs they
are never installed and are deleted before the census.
- node-lts: undici 7.29.0 -> 7.30.1 (llhttp 9.3.0), npm undici 6.26.0 ->
  6.28.0, amaro 1.1.10 -> 1.1.11 (shipped blob 79c79a0b..., node's).
- Every decoded shipped blob is byte-identical to a pin this branch already
carried, so only the version tripwires and amaro's pin move.
- amaro-wasm builds 1.1.11 only: both lines bundle it now.
- rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py: undici 8.12 renamed build/wasm.js to
build/llhttp.js with the same pinned lines; check_undici_src accepts
exactly one of the two, selftest covers the rename and both-or-neither.

@norrietaylor #968 has landed, so I re-derived this branch on top of it, as you asked in your #968 review: a merge of main (8424eab), then b0ec739. No force-push, so it still needs squash-on-merge.

  • node-lts is back on nodejs.org. Both build.ncl conflicts are resolved by taking main's recipe (nodejs.org tarball, no carried patches, Update node to 26.12.1 and node-lts to 24.22.1 (security; upstream eMudhra fix, drop carried patches) #968's kBlockedSPKIs / emSign guards) and re-applying this branch's deps, Sources and tests.
  • Pins, re-derived from the 26.12.1 / 24.22.1 trees rather than from the numbers in the review:
    • The versions match what you listed: undici 8.12.2 (node) and 7.30.1 (node-lts), and amaro 1.1.11. npm's undici is 6.28.0 in both.
    • The sha-pinned blobs did not change, though. Every decoded wasm blob in 26.12.1 / 24.22.1 is byte-identical to a pin this branch already carried (ab4573a0/18403ee5, 57184a16/2434215e, b96063c7/989f2025). The undici bumps didn't touch llhttp's wasm, and 6.26.0 and 6.28.0 ship the same pair. The only pin that moved is node-lts's amaro blob, 1.1.10 8d7f6dd7 -> 1.1.11 79c79a0b, which is node's.
    • The full table is at the top of the PR body.
  • Versions typed twice (your 10-19 point): build.sh now reads MINIMAL_ARG_UNDICI, _UNDICI_LLHTTP, _NPM_UNDICI and _AMARO from build_args, so a bump is one edit in build.ncl.
  • Two upstream changes needed tool fixes:
    • undici 8.12 renamed build/wasm.js to build/llhttp.js, with the same pinned lines. rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py accepts exactly one of the two, and the selftest covers both-or-neither.
    • undici 8.12 also vendors milo, a Rust parser, as two base64 wasm carriers in deps/undici/src/lib/milo/. node's bundled undici.js compiles milo out, so they are never installed. build.sh deletes them before the census, like the llhttp source blobs. With them present, the census fails naming exactly those two (negative control).
  • amaro-wasm builds 1.1.11 only, since both lines bundle it.
  • Real rebuilds, not cache (your earlier ~19 min question):
    • In a fresh remote session with --rebuild, node-lts took 19m48s and node 22m13s, each a full V8 compile. amaro-wasm compiled 528 crates twice, and the two builds are byte-equal.
    • min check on all 7 touched packages: every check Pass, no Skip.
    • CI's minimal build on b0ec739 took 18m21s.
  • TLS: I ran tests/tls-trust: TLS trust harness for CA distrust responses #976's harness pinned to b0ec739. The live and offline node, node-sysca and node-blocklist rows are FIXED on both lines, so Update node to 26.12.1 and node-lts to 24.22.1 (security; upstream eMudhra fix, drop carried patches) #968's upstream blocklist still holds after the splices.
  • next: ship the platform SWC binary #966: still open, so the SRC_ROOT/BUILD_ROOT reconcile and the census allowance for the x64 @next/swc wasm module fall to whichever lands second. They're noted in the body, not added here.

…tp wasm rebuild and main's SWC addon)

Both sides add independent steps to next: #817's undici source + llhttp
wasm rebuild/census, and main's prebuilt @next/swc-linux-<arch>-gnu addon
(a native .node, not wasm, so the census does not see it).

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The merge from main moved `rust` to 1.99.1, and amaro-wasm's build.sh
fails closed when the toolchain isn't the rust_version it pins ("rustc is
not 1.99.0"). Its wasm std builds from the matching rustc source tarball:
rustc-1.99.1-src.tar.xz, the same mirrored object and sha256 main's
packages/rust pins. The output wasm is not hash-pinned (node's splice pins
only the upstream blob it replaces), only built twice and compared.

I checked the llhttp side against upstream at head 87c64eb. The pins match the trees: undici 8.12.2 bundles llhttp 9.3.1, 7.30.1 bundles 9.3.0, and 6.28.0 bundles 8.1.0. The flags pinned in WASM_JS_PINNED match build/llhttp.js at v8.12.2, the simd build adds -msimd128 as upstream does, and the gate compares imports, exports and features against the shipped blob. The census allows only the rebuilt shas, so no stale prebuilt can survive in node or node-lts. The selftest passes locally. CI is green.

One defect: since the merge with #966, next's census no longer covers the SWC addon. Details are inline.

Also:

  • The PR body is stale. It still calls #966 open, and it says the post-install census allows 4 blobs, which is now 5 with amaro. Please update it.
  • This still needs a squash on merge.

…tp/amaro versions (review)

- The wasm census ran before the @next/swc addon and sharp were installed,
so neither reached it. The x64 addon holds one raw `\0asm` module (it
failed the census when run over it, per review); the build passed on amd64
only because of step order. The census and smoke now run last, with an
explicit allow-path naming the x64 addon as upstream's sha-pinned prebuilt.
- llhttp 8.1.0 is forwarded from build.ncl (next: undici_llhttp; node and
node-lts: npm_undici_llhttp) instead of a literal in three build.sh files.
- amaro-wasm: `amaro` is a plain string used by the Source URL,
upstream_version and the test; next's duplicate SRC_ROOT is gone.

…A store, #1133)

#1133 (node, node-lts: trust the system CA store by default) conflicted
with this branch only in the import block of node{,-lts}/build.ncl: both
sides added imports after `gcc`. Kept both: this branch's llvm, wasi-libc,
llhttp-wasm-rebuild and amaro-wasm, and main's ca-certificates.

Everything else auto-merged and is kept from both sides:
- main's ca-certificates runtime dep, the --openssl-use-def-ca-store
configure flag, the post-install `node --help` guard and the
  system_ca_store_default test;
- this branch's wasm pins, splices, both censuses, smoke and type_strip.
The CA change touches only configure flags and runtime deps, so neither
census nor any splice is affected. No node, node-lts or next version moved
on main since the last merge (fdb5524), so the undici / llhttp / amaro
pins are unchanged.

Checked: nickel format --check and bash -n on node{,-lts}; mip dump
--packages evaluates on amd64 (651 packages) and arm64 (649), with
ca-certificates and the wasm build deps both present on node and node-lts.

@norrietaylor All three of your 10-30 points are in e9033a4:

0b373db merges main (#1133, system CA store). The only conflict was the import block in node{,-lts}/build.ncl, and I kept both sides. No node or next version moved, so every wasm pin is unchanged. #1133's --openssl-use-def-ca-store, its ca-certificates runtime dep, the --help guard and system_ca_store_default sit alongside the splices and censuses. On 0b373db, minimal build passes on both arches, including those tests: https://github.com/gominimal/pkgs/runs/125441660752

I've also updated the body: #966 has landed, and its two follow-ups are done here. It still needs squash-on-merge because of the merge commits. Could you take another look?

Scope The diff matches the PR body. The title names only llhttp and wasi-libc, but the diff also adds amaro-wasm and wasm-bindgen-cli. packages/node-24 is outside the change and still ships the upstream blobs. See the finding.

Clobber None. The diff deletes no lines, and git log on the three build scripts shows that the #966 and #1133 work stays in place.

Correctness I read all of rebuild-llhttp-wasm.py. The wasm opcode walker, the gate, the splice, the census and the CLI show no defect. The census fails closed on undecodable carriers, and --wasm paths resolve before -C. The rustc source sha in amaro-wasm equals the sha in packages/rust/build.ncl. All earlier review threads are addressed at this head, and I did not raise them again. The llhttp-wasm-rebuild package has no license_spdx, which the report-only license lint lists as missing.

Design question, no finding packages/binaryen exists and does not depend on node, but the PR body gives no reason to skip wasm-opt. The PR body also has no parser performance measurement for the unoptimized blobs.

Not checked I did not build anything or run the selftest. The evidence in the PR body is amd64 only and is mostly from b0ec739, before e9033a4 moved the next census. The PR checklist item for a green build on the new head is still open. The arm64 result of --allow-raw usr/bin/node=2 has no evidence. Network checks were denied, so the wasm-bindgen repository redirect is unverified. I did not run gitleaks or trivy. I read the diff and saw no credential, and no lockfile changed. Printed text: the diff adds only build-time output, so that check found nothing in scope.

# What this node tree bundles, verified by build.sh (check-tree / build fail on a mismatch),
# so a node bump re-derives each one here: undici under deps/undici (its llhttp C rebuilds
# the wasm js2c'd into node), the undici npm vendors under deps/npm (rebuilt from the
# mirrored release tarball below), and amaro (its swc wasm comes from packages/amaro-wasm).

low · This change roots the wasm in node and node-lts, but packages/node-24 is the same line and keeps the upstream blobs. packages/node-24/build.ncl says it uses the same configure as node-lts, is at 24.22.2, and has no llvm, wasi-libc, llhttp-wasm-rebuild or amaro-wasm dependency. A user who selects node-24 still gets wasm that we did not compile, and no census reports it. Add the same steps to node-24, or state the exclusion and track it in an issue. This is the only other node runtime package.

low · The comment says that installed wasm is exactly the rebuilt blobs, but --expect usr/bin/node=2+ accepts one blob fewer than the binary carries. The binary carries three: the undici pair and amaro. The PR evidence reports 5 blobs in total, and 2 of them are in npm's undici. With 2+, the census still passes if any one of the three stops being visible in usr/bin/node. Use --expect usr/bin/node=3. The same line is in packages/node-lts/build.sh:103, so the fix applies to both files.

low · source_provenance names rustwasm/wasm-bindgen. To my knowledge the rustwasm org was retired in 2025 and this project moved to wasm-bindgen/wasm-bindgen. AGENTS.md requires the canonical owner and repo, because a stale value sends later version checks to the old repository. I could not confirm the redirect, because network checks were denied. Run curl -sIL https://github.com/rustwasm/wasm-bindgen, and update owner if it redirects. This is the only package in the repo that names this repository.

# Every other wasm in the FINAL tree is still upstream's, by exact path: a new carrier fails here.
# Runs last, after the SWC addon and sharp are installed, so nothing lands after it unseen
# (review on #817: the x64 SWC addon embeds a raw wasm module and was installed after the census).

nit · This comment tells the history of a review on this PR, not what the code does. The line before it already gives the reason for the order. Remove the parenthetical line. The addon exception is already described at lines 207-209.

nit · The header says the helper is for node and node-lts, but next also uses it. Line 15 of this file names all three. The script also splices amaro's module, so the llhttp description is narrower than the tool. Update the comment.

nit · Nothing reads the copied wasm.js. node and node-lts splice only wasm_bg.wasm and keep the glue in amaro's dist/index.js. The modules test also reads only wasm_bg.wasm. Remove this copy unless a planned consumer needs it.
