fix(minimald): reword network refusals and errors in plain language - #2173
norrietaylor merged 4 commits into
Conversation
Replace internal jargon in the session daemon's user-facing refusal and error strings: host_ip egress refusals now say what the machine can and cannot do, the stale DNS carve-out refusal names the observable symptom and remedy without 'carve-out' or 'zone answerer', and task/sandbox network errors no longer say 'PTask', 'tap', or 'row on the VM host'. Every test needle and e2e grep that pinned the old wording is updated to the new strings; behavior is unchanged. Co-authored-by: Copilot <223556219+Copilot@users.noreply.github.com>

… reworded refusals The host_ip refusal names the egress-section form of deny-all beside the flag again, since the refused rules can come from minimal.toml. The task refusal says "the VM host daemon". A stale-rules refusal with no recorded address says the rules do not allow DNS at any address. The doc comments match the words they describe.

A bare `min session destroy` fails: the command needs a session or `--all`. The refusal a task gets when its network addresses cannot be confirmed now shows `min session destroy <session>`, the form the attach refusals use, and the test pins it.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick winThe classifier requires deny entries to be absent. The new remedy omits that condition, so users can still receive the same refusal when they follow it with non-empty deny lists.

The session daemon's user-facing refusal and error strings were written
in internal jargon a person cannot act on:
boxes on this host enforce only deny-all egress ... or an egress
section with all three allow lists present and empty and no deny
entries ... which enforces them" — classifier terms ("host_ip boxes",
"allow lists") describing internal shapes instead of what the person
can do.
... the zone answerer is bound at ... re-render the carve-out ..." —
no one outside the daemon knows what a carve-out or a zone answerer
is.
ended", "the PTask's network namespace is gone before its tap was
made", "own-IP sandbox produced no in-namespace tap fd", "attaching
the task network failed", "planning the task network failed" — PTask,
tap, and row are daemon-internal nouns.
This rewords all of these in plain language (what the machine can and
cannot do, which command to run, what the sandbox failed to do), and
updates every test needle and e2e grep that pinned the old wording —
including two needle sites beyond the issue's list (rpc.rs 4619/4630,
session-e2e.sh's grep of the rendered refusal) that assert the same
strings. No behavior changes; the refusal conditions, returned types,
and remedy commands are exactly as before. Internal doc comments that
still use the old nouns are left as-is per the issue's scope note.
