feat(minimal): make host DNS setup opt-in with a reviewable min net setup script and --undo - #2082
Conversation
…starts and add min net setup A session start on a host whose resolver is not configured for the box zone printed the full advisory on every activation, interactive or not: a privileged command of tens of lines that buried the session id, warnings and errors in scripted and agent logs. Print the advisory whole only on an interactive start (stderr is a terminal and neither --no-prompt nor --no-input is set). Any other start prints one line: the advisory's facts, without the lead-in to the command block, followed by a pointer to `min net setup`. Add `min net setup`, which prints the full command for this host's current state from the same host reads a start makes (now factored into advisory_host_reads). It takes the answerer port the way `min ls` does, each VM host daemon's own status first, then the daemon listing. It never starts a daemon, never runs the command and never prompts. With no port to point at it says so and exits 1. On a host that needs no step it says there is nothing to run. The session e2e read the command from a start's redirected stderr, which now carries only the one line, so each proof reads it from `min net setup` run right after the start instead.

… to print it `min net setup` now runs the command an interactive start prints, so the command's own sudo is the one privilege prompt and the operator no longer copies a multi-line block by hand. `--print` keeps the old behaviour: the advisory whole, command block included, with no prompt. The session e2e reads the command through `--print`, so CI never runs it. The non-interactive start's one line now says `min net setup` configures the host. NET-122 splits its host-setup requirement into run and print.

…e-operator refusal NET-122 now binds host setup to the operator's request: a session start points at `min net setup` on the name-surface line and prints no part of the privileged script. The sub-requirements cover running and printing the annotated POSIX script, refusing when another user's box-name service is installed, and removing everything the step installs. NET-123's interim points at the same step, and an open question asks whether one machine-wide service can serve several users.
Host DNS is opt-in. A session start no longer prints the resolver advisory in any form; the proxy name-surface line, which `min ls` prints too, points at `min net setup` instead. `min net setup --print` prints a POSIX script (`#!/bin/sh`, `set -eu`, a header naming what it configures and that it runs as root, one commented block per step) with no `sudo sh -c` wrapper. `min net setup` writes the same rendered script to a private temp file and runs `sudo sh <file>`. A failed answerer step now cancels the port release before it removes the copy that runs the cancel. `min net setup --undo` removes the answerer service, its program copy and channel, the resolver hook and, on macOS, the range unit; it needs no daemon and succeeds on a clean host. Setup refuses, naming the user, when the installed box-name service runs as another user.
… uninstall The session e2e reads `min net setup --print`'s stdout as the script, its note from stderr, and runs the file with one `sudo -n sh`. The installer's `--uninstall` offers `min net setup --undo` while the host files the step installs are present, prompting only on a terminal like the AppArmor offer, and otherwise prints the root commands that stay valid once `min` is gone.

…that calls sudo min net setup now prints a #!/bin/sh script with no sudo inside it and runs it with sudo sh, so the lane's sh -c ran it unprivileged and failed on /etc/resolver. The lane runs it as root with sudo -n, the way the session e2e does, and checks no step escalates on its own.
…eep setup's listings A start whose daemon reports an answerer port it has not bound printed no surface line, so the NET-122 pointer was missing. It now prints the proxy's line, which carries it. min net setup lost every listing when the selected VM failed to answer, and reported no port even when another VM had one. It now skips that VM and keeps the rest; min ls stays strict.
…ts pointer One helper picks the start's surface line, the proxy's when no verdict exists, so a unit test covers the case a daemon reports an answerer port it has not bound.

What changes
Before this change, every session start on a host whose resolver was not set up for the box zone printed the full resolver advisory: a privileged
sudo sh -ccommand of tens of lines that buried the session id, warnings and errors. Host DNS setup is now opt-in, reached from the feature that needs it, and the setup step can be reviewed and removed.min net setup".min lsprints the same line. The native-DNS line carries no pointer.min net setuprenders an annotated POSIX script for this host's current state (#!/bin/sh, a header naming what it configures, set -eu, one commented block per step), writes it to a private temporary file and runs it withsudo sh, sosudois the only privilege prompt. It exits with the script's status. With nothing to do, it says so and exits 0; a blocker exits 1.min net setup --printprints that same script to stdout, the note to stderr, and runs nothing, so the step can be read before it runs. Print and run share one rendered string.min net setup --undoremoves everything the step installs, and--undo --printshows it first:dev.gominimal.zone,dev.minimal.local-range), both helper programs in/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools, the answerer channel, and/etc/resolver/min.internal.minzonedsocket and service units, the root copy, the channel and theminzone0link.install.sh --uninstallchecks for those host paths. On a terminal withminstill present it offers to runmin net setup --undo; otherwise it prints that command and the equivalentsudocommands. It never callssudoitself.Fixed on the way: a failed answerer step removed the root copy before runningrelease-cancelfrom it. The cancel now runs first.scripts/session-e2e.sh: the five proofs read the script frommnl net setup --print, check that no step callssudoitself, and run it withsudo -n sh.docs/reference/cli-min.md: thenet setupsection covers all of the above.Verification
