fix(minimal-client): keep hard links as links in the workspace upload - #1928
Conversation
The directory-walk uploader archived every name for a hard-linked inode as an independent regular entry, so two names sharing one inode on the host arrived in the session as two inodes with link count 1. Track `(dev, ino)` for files with `nlink > 1` during the walk and emit an `EntryType::Link` entry for later names instead of a second full copy. When the first path does not fit the header's link-name field, fall back to a regular entry so the upload never fails because of a link. 📝 WalkthroughWalkthroughThe directory walker now tracks files by device and inode. It archives the first encountered name as a regular file and later names as tar hard links when possible. Tests cover single-link files, excluded names, and overlong targets. ChangesHard-link archiving
Priority: ⬇️ Low Estimated code review effort: 2 (Simple) | ~12 minutes Suggested reviewers: Merge Risk: 🔵 Low · up to Uploads remain usable, but workspaces with multiple links to a file can lose some hard-link relationships. The fallback test also does not reliably protect that behavior. Both should be corrected or explicitly accepted before merging. 🚥 Pre-merge checks | ✅ 5✅ Passed checks (5 passed)

1204-1212: 🎯 Functional Correctness | 🔵 Trivial | ⚡ Quick winForce the long name to be archived first and assert that the fallback produced an independent file.
The current test can pass when
short.txtis archived first. The later long name then links toshort.txt, so both paths exist andshort.txtstill has the expected body. The currentread_dirloop does not sort entries.Sorting alone is not sufficient if the fixture keeps the
x...name:short.txtsorts before it. Sort entries by filename, use a long name that sorts beforeshort.txt, and assertnlink == 1plus the file body.file_type().is_file()or body equality alone also passes for an unpacked hard link.Suggested test correction

… path A regular entry written because the first name was too long to link to now becomes the target for later names, so a third name links instead of being copied again. The bookkeeping moves into hard_link_target, tested in a fixed order, and the fallback stream test uses two over-long names so it runs the fallback whatever order the walk reads them in.

Summary
The workspace upload turned every hard link into an independent copy: two names sharing one inode on the host arrived in the session as two inodes with link count 1.
Fix
add_dir_entries_innernow tracks(dev, ino)for files whosenlink > 1during the directory walk. The first name for an inode is archived as a regular entry; every later name is emitted as anEntryType::Linkentry pointing at the first archive path, so the session sees one inode with a link count of N rather than N independent copies. When the first path does not fit the tar header's 100-byte link-name field, the upload falls back to a regular entry for the later name — the upload never fails because of a link.
