…rketplaces Admins add marketplaces (Anthropic's are suggested, any repository with .claude-plugin/marketplace.json works); people who write extensions browse, preview and install plugins from them, or import a plugin or skill from a GitHub/GitLab link or a .zip. Skills keep their text files, read on demand with use_skill; commands become skills and agents prompt tools. Claude Code hooks and plugin MCP servers are left out and named in the preview. An extension of kind mcp is a Streamable HTTP MCP server: Lens lists its tools when it's saved and the assistant calls them as <server>__<tool>. Read-only tools (readOnlyHint) answer at once, the rest ask for approval. Only admins add servers; a plugin's network MCP servers (.mcp.json) come along when an admin installs it, stdio servers are left out. Description
Before: you could add extensions only by writing them yourself (as code, on the canvas or in chat), and the assistant couldn't use MCP servers.
After:
anthropics/skills,anthropics/claude-plugins-official) are offered with one click, and any repository with.claude-plugin/marketplace.jsoncan be added by its address, so a team can run its own. Anyone who can write extensions can search a marketplace, preview a plugin (what it adds and what Lens leaves out), and install it. You can also import a plugin or skill from a GitHub or GitLab link, or from a.zip,.skillor.tar.gzfile.use_skill(name, file); nothing in them runs. A command becomes a skill. An agent becomes a prompt tool, with the agent's instructions as its system prompt. Claude Code hooks (shell commands) are left out, and the preview names them.mcp. An admin gives a Streamable HTTP server's address and headers. Lens lists the server's tools when the extension is saved, and the assistant calls them as<server>__<tool>. Tools the server marksreadOnlyHintrun at once; the rest ask for approval. A plugin's network MCP servers (.mcp.json) are installed with the plugin when an admin installs it. Servers that run as a local program (stdio) are left out.Installed plugins are private to the person who installed them. Installing again saves a new version. Marketplace and repository downloads go through netguard, so only public addresses are reached.
Motivation and Context
Adeel asked for the assistant to use skills, MCP servers and plugins from Anthropic's marketplace or a custom one. This supersedes the parked "Extensions over MCP" and "Extensions marketplace" todos.
