Customers can now discover their next meal through natural conversation. Just describe what you're looking for, in your own words: "I fancy something spicy but not pizza again." Early UK data shows customers using Voice AI find what they're looking for around 40% faster than with our text-only assistant — and they're 30% more likely to choose a recommended restaurant or dish. The most useful delivery robots are the ones you never notice 🤖 👀 That is the logic our CTO Mert Öztekin sets out in this clip. Not robots as a spectacle — but as an invisible engine in the background, handling deliveries that do not need a person: off-peak orders, quieter routes, lower-demand areas. In February we ran trials in Bristol and Milton Keynes with ten independent restaurant partners. A pilot in Sunderland with Starship Technologies followed days later, covering more than 11,000 households. Starship’s robots complete 99 per cent of journeys without human intervention. The point is not to replace couriers. It is to free them for the last-mile moments that benefit from a person — high-traffic, time-sensitive, human. They already have the skills. They just need to see where they can take them. ✨ That's what happened when we hosted the second "Inside Tech" event at our Amsterdam office in April, as part of a collaborative STEM series with Adyen. Students aged 12-18 didn't just hear about data careers at a global tech company, they rolled up their sleeves and tackled real-world data challenges alongside our Just Eat Takeaway.com and Adyen volunteers. Because many young people don't realise they already have the analytical skills needed for the tech roles of the future. Through our STEM Ambassador programme, we're changing that. This series is the first time we've brought this hands-on experience to our Amsterdam HQ, as part of a 3-year commitment to supporting TUMO and investing in youth tech education across Amsterdam. For our JETers, volunteering as STEM Ambassadors is more than giving back, it's a chance to develop mentoring skills, share career stories, and show young people what's possible in tech. Running a restaurant has never been about technology. It is about food, people, and making it work on a Friday night when three staff have called in sick. Which is why most owners should not have to become data analysts to grow. In this clip, our CTO Mert Öztekin makes a straightforward point: the technology part is ours to solve. Across the markets we operate in, the vast majority of our restaurant partners are independent businesses. They built something real — a kitchen, a menu, a loyal local following. What most of them did not sign up for is decoding platform data. The Platform Work Directive is one of Europe's defining policy moments. Not just for platforms — for the millions of people whose working lives it will shape. For years, this debate has been framed as a binary: employment or flexibility, security or autonomy. That framing is understandable. It is also increasingly unhelpful. Just Eat Takeaway.com is the only major delivery platform in Europe to have operated all three logistics models simultaneously and at scale. That experience comes with an obligation: to speak honestly about what works, what doesn't, and what couriers are actually telling us. In the UK and Ireland, 8 in 10 couriers consistently name flexibility as the primary reason they chose this work. They are not asking to be protected from that choice. Our starting point is that reality. From it, we think every courier deserves: → Real flexibility — to choose when, where, and how to work → Transparent earnings — paired with meaningful protections and benefits → Technology that works in their interest, not against it When platform work is done right, the impact extends far beyond the individual. Flexible supply that responds to real demand creates earning opportunities — and reaches communities — that simply would not otherwise exist. Europe has the talent, the technology, and the ambition to set a global standard here.
