Prices seemed to be more competitive than one recommended by trip organizer. I wasn't clear from descriptions what various options covered. I'll have to ask some questions. I'm disappointed I have to pay for the insurance 9+ months before my trip. I'm also disappointed I have to pay more than people less than 10 years younger than myself even though I'm in good health or I wouldn't be taking this expensive trip.

The unexpected is not covered
I’m so disappointed with my experience. I purchased this insurance because I had to travel back and forth to care for my father. When his condition deteriorated I had to cancel flights and stay with him. I provided medical records to support my claim. No reimbursement. Nothing. So disappointed. The unexpected does happen. This insurance does not cover all unexpected events.

Misleading and deceiving
Our trip was delayed because of inclement weather which caused us to miss our connecting flight and we ended up booking a hotel and our next flight was delayed by 3 days. Our return trip was diverted to another airport which caused us to miss our connecting flight ...etc. Travel guard refused to honor their claim of coverage citing so many fine prints embedded in the body of a multi-page policy. I will never buy travel insurance from this company which is affiliated to AIG.

Star — I DO NOT RECOMMEND
I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Travel Guard Insurance through Hotels.com. I purchased their travel insurance specifically to protect myself in case something unexpected prevented me from traveling.
Due to my disability, I was unable to drive myself to my destination. Travel Guard requested medical documentation supporting this, and I submitted the paperwork they asked for. Now, after providing that documentation, they are saying they cannot find the policy or plan information—even though I clearly submitted a screenshot showing the plan I purchased.
Now I’m being asked to submit even more documentation. It feels like every time I provide exactly what they request, they come back with another requirement or another obstacle. This entire process has been exhausting, frustrating, and completely unacceptable.
I purchased travel insurance for peace of mind, not to be given the runaround when I actually needed to use it.
I DO NOT recommend Travel Guard, and after this experience, I will never use Travel Guard or Hotels.com again. If this is how customers are treated when they need to file a legitimate claim, I would rather take my business elsewhere.

Be very careful before opening a policy.
On 8-5-2026 I opened a policy for two travelers on 9-14 to 10-7. On 9-3 my wife decided that she could not go on the trip. I called travel guard to see if I could get an adjustment since there is now zero risk of her needing any of the benefits of the policy. Turns out that the only modifications TG allows are ones that increase the premium. They have no interest in making any adjustments in the other direction even though the policy is not in effect yet and their risk for her is now zero. Not sure if my anger is justified, but I will be forwarding my experience to the MN AG and insurance commissioner.
