My experience with Green City Pros was very positive. The team was punctual, clearly explained the duct-cleaning process, and left the workspace neat and clean. The indoor air quality in my home seemed noticeably better afterwards.

We decided to reach back out to GCP for another cleaning (our first was great), and in the course of the technicians speaking with us, they let us know that they also sell and install new AC systems. We mentioned to the techs that we already had a contract with a company to install new units for us that were 2 stage 4 and 5 ton units, and we were having the ducts cleaned since preparation for the install. When they mentioned that they sell and install units also, we asked them to come back out and do a quote for us. They have the impression that they could match the quote we received from the other company and since we had worked with them in the past already, we were hopeful that going through them would be a good experience. We were dead wrong. Several things happened that lead to this review.

1. Even though we had talked about 2 stage units (in a conversation that happened to be captured by our in home cameras), one of the reps apparently decided that we didn’t “need” 2 stage units, and wrote up a contract matched to the pricing of the other company’s 2 stage quote, but for 1 stage units. He didn’t include the stage on the contract so when the contract was signed, and we noticed the suspiciously low 14 seer rating, we asked (assuming we were still talking about 2 stage units) that the seers be matched to the other quote at 16. The rep assured us that this would be fixed, and went on his way with our deposit check.

2. On install day, before the units were taken from the delivery vehicle, I checked the information on label, and realized these were 1 stage units. We called and said that the units were wrong, and so the rep came to our house to argue with us for almost 2 hours as to why we didn’t “need” 2 stage units, and how it would require 2 more thermostats (a lie) and different ductwork. Meanwhile, the reps - before we came to an agreement - instructed the workers to proceed with the install anyway even though we were objecting. Eventually, since the machines were already installed, we just sort of let it go.

3. The next day, the house was relatively warm, and so we called to let the company know what was going on and that we wanted them to replace the units with the ones we asked for. Eventually the owner of the company - Mark - reached out to us, and when we explained what was happening he initially had an attitude with us and tried to persuade us - as his reps did - that our house didn’t “need” 2 stage units, and how apparently our house was too small to need them at 4700 square feet. Something no other company had ever even said or suggested. He seemed to think we may have been lying about the initial conversations with his reps, so we made it clear to him that we did have recordings of the conversations we had with his representatives. He still had an attitude about it but he told us to send the recordings to him. When we did, he called back and his demeanor was very different. He promised to make everything right and to have the proper units installed. We offered to minimize the losses the company would face by accepting the single stage units for use at our commercial facilities as a gesture of goodwill. He agreed, and sent the reps back out to make sure the contracts were well written and included everything we needed. We signed and hoped that everything would be okay thereafter.

4. The install day came, and when the units were checked they were exactly what we wanted. They were installed and everything seemed fine, until eventually the units stopped blowing cold. They came back out and had to put more Freon in the unit. Later on, we noticed that the units kept turning off - like single stage units would.. that’s not supposed to happen with 2 stage units. When I checked our Nest thermostat app for the wiring, we discovered that both units only had 5 thermostat wires. But 2 stage wiring requires 6-7 wires. We reached out to Mark to let him know that the thermostats were not wired correctly, and responded by saying we were just looking for problems, accusing us of blackmail, and then refusing to honor his company’s service contract. We are seriously considering legal action over this.

Absolutely abhorrent behavior for an owner.

Green City Pros did a great job fixing our heating system. They came when they said they would. They found the problem and fixed it fast. Our house is warm again! Their workers were nice. Their prices were clear. Green City Pros provides excellent heating and cooling service. If you need HVAC help, Choose them !
