Three enquiries regarding a damage…
Three enquiries regarding a damage claim – no response for four weeks
We booked a rental car for our holiday in Costa Rica through EconomyCarRentals.com. The local rental company was Costa Rent a Car. The vehicle was fully insured, but with a deductible of €1,500.
Unfortunately, a minor bodywork damage occurred during the rental period. As a result, we were charged the full €1,500 deductible.
When we returned the vehicle, we were assured that we would receive the invoice and/or damage assessment showing the actual cost of the damage. Costa Rent a Car referred us to EconomyCarRentals for further clarification, as the booking and insurance had been arranged through EconomyCarRentals.
That is exactly what we did. We have now contacted EconomyCarRentals three times in writing, asking for clarification and for the relevant documentation regarding the damage.
Four weeks have now passed, and we have received neither an invoice, a damage assessment nor any other transparent breakdown of the actual repair costs. More importantly, we have not received any response at all to any of our three enquiries.
EconomyCarRentals already has our email address and all other contact details from the original booking.
Of course, we are prepared to pay for the actual damage incurred, up to the agreed deductible. However, we expect a correct, transparent and verifiable breakdown of the actual costs. Charging the full €1,500 deductible for relatively minor bodywork damage and then failing to respond to three enquiries over a period of four weeks is very difficult for us to understand.
We now expect to receive the promised documentation and a proper clarification of the matter. If this issue is resolved and any difference between the amount charged and the actual cost of the damage is refunded, we will of course update this review accordingly.
