Info

CUTISS is a late-stage clinical TechBio company and the only one transforming skin surgery and advanced dermatology with revolutionary skin tissue therapeutics. We are developing the first BIO personalized and automated skin tissue therapy for patients requiring skin surgery for a large spectrum of indications- from severe burns to reconstructive and aesthetic procedures. Our lead product denovoSkin™ is a first-in-class, bioengineered, personalized skin tissue therapy designed to improve patient outcomes and redefine the standard of care in skin surgery. Currently in Phase 3 clinical trials in the European Union, it has Orphan Drug Designation for the treatment of burns from Swissmedic, the EMA, and the US FDA. CUTISS is also pioneering the TECH automation of skin tissue bioengineering, developing the world’s first machine capable of fully automating the manufacturing process. This breakthrough ensures scalability, accessibility and cost-efficiency, and supports attractive unit economics. Our proprietary TECHBIO platform offers growth opportunities in other areas of regenerative medicine, from space research to non-healthcare applications (tissues for industry). Established in 2017, CUTISS is a spin-off from University of Zurich (UZH) and University Children’s Hospital. Headquartered at the Bio-Technopark in Zurich, CUTISS won the Top 100 Swiss Startup Award 2020, and has raised over $90 million from private investors, family offices and public bodies.

CUTISS has been granted a new U.S. patent. It covers automated methods and systems for producing skin grafts, including the separation of skin layers and the isolation of key cell types from a skin biopsy. The patented invention relates to a broader automated workflow for skin graft production, in which a skin biopsy may be separated into dermis and epidermis, fibroblasts and keratinocytes isolated and expanded, and a skin graft formed under automated control. According to the patent, this approach is intended to support a more controlled and efficient manufacturing process. This new patent further strengthens our intellectual property portfolio and supports the broader strategy to advance standardized and scalable manufacturing for personalized skin tissue therapy. U.S. Patent No. 12,599,401 B2 – titled “Methods and systems for producing skin grafts” – granted on 14 April 2026 and assigned to CUTISS AG. #innovation #regenerativemedicine #tissueengineering

According to the publication, denovoSkin™ demonstrated significantly better scar quality than STSG at 3 months, with benefits maintained at 12 months. Elasticity parameters also consistently favored denovoSkin™, and significant donor site sparing was also demonstrated. The authors conclude that denovoSkin™ is a safe and effective treatment for full-thickness skin defects and provides favorable skin quality over 12 months. This publication adds to the growing body of clinical evidence supporting denovoSkin™ as a personalized, bio-engineered dermo-epidermal skin graft for the treatment of acute and elective full-thickness skin defects. We thank the patients, investigators, and clinical teams involved in this multicenter study for their important contribution to advancing innovation in reconstructive surgery.   📷 Image below shows denovoSkin™ versus autologous split thickness skin grafts (STSG) Daniela Marino Kathi Mujynya Vincent Ronfard Esther Middelkoop #ReconstructiveSurgery #RegenerativeMedicine #TissueEngineering #ClinicalResearch

New publication on compassionate use of denovoSkin™ in pediatric reconstructive burn surgery   A new peer-reviewed report in the Journal of Burn Care & Research describes the U.S. compassionate use of denovoSkin™ in a pediatric patient with extensive burn injuries, treated at Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston).   For children with severe burns, reconstruction is not just about wound closure – it’s also about supporting mobility, growth, and long-term quality of life. In this case, denovoSkin™ was used in reconstructive procedures including contracture release and treatment of unstable scars and non-healed wounds.   As the authors note, the development of an autologous, full-thickness skin replacement has long been considered the “holy grail” in the treatment of severe skin loss. The publication reports high engraftment rates (95%), durable healed skin, and positive handling characteristics, further documenting the potential of personalized bio-engineered skin in complex burn reconstruction.   This report follows the first U.S. compassionate use announced in 2024 and the abstract presented in 2025, providing additional clinical detail.   In parallel, CUTISS continues to advance denovoSkin™ in an ongoing Phase 3 clinical trial in the EU and Switzerland for patients with severe skin burns.   We thank the surgical and clinical teams at Mass General Hospital, particularly Rob Sheridan, jeremy goverman and Matthew David Supple, for their continued collaboration and commitment to improving care for burn patients.   Daniela Marino Kathi Mujynya Vincent Ronfard Esther Middelkoop Luc Teot American Burn Association #BurnCare #RegenerativeMedicine #denovoSkin #TissueEngineering #TechBio

Yesterday we celebrated the 9th BIRTHDAY of CUTISS!    Our amazing team was able to mark this milestone in a particularly meaningful way, together with our medical trainers and many of the clinical investigators and their teams involved in our ongoing Phase 3 trial who travelled to Zurich from 7 different EU countries for 2 days of workshops, networking and discussions.   Our progress is the result of a shared effort between CUTISS' team, surgeons, clinical teams, researchers, partners (including Tecan and Rode Kruis Ziekenhuis) and patients. Their trust and dedication honor us and give us an amazing motivation to keep pushing the boundaries in skin surgery.   As our Phase 3 study of denovoSkin™ and our automation program continue, we remain focused on developing a personalized, scalable and accessible skin tissue therapy that can significantly improve outcomes for patients with severe skin injuries and reduce the burden of today’s standard treatments.   We have our goals in sight, and we remain committed to make our therapy available to as many patients, as soon as possible #gogogo   Kathi Mujynya Vincent Ronfard Esther Middelkoop Luc Teot Martin Meuli
