The physical AI system we are most familiar with? Cars. Cars are loaded with sensors: camera, radar, lidar — the 3D mapping out the front windshield — and more. These sensors connect the outside world to the digital systems inside and our cars are processing high volumes of data with high resolution and more AI compute. For drivers: it's a more comfortable and safer ride. But this largely unnoticed data movement, from the sensors to the vehicle's core intelligent systems, is challenging the architecture of how vehicles are built for the era of physical AI. At AutoSens this year, Dr. Ali Safiei is taking the stage to discuss these implications and what we can do when faced with more centralized or zonal architectures, longer data paths and higher aggregate bandwidth in vehicles. A sneak peek? Optics is the right direction, but integrating it economically at scale is a major challenge for the industry. Rebar and concrete. Not quite the scene most imagine for integrated graphene photonics. But before the world's most precise semiconductor manufacturing equipment arrive at FabONE, a foundation that minimizes even the smallest vibrations needs to be set in place. And that's what you see: the old concrete out. Steelwork in. New concrete poured and leveled so that wafers, where graphene and photonics meet, can be produced to industry standard. Another year, another company run! This is our fifth time joining the Aachen company run, and as always, we had a great time. Our team of 20 lined up, alongside 6,000 other runners and 440 companies. Twelve of us came from a different nation than Germany, more than half the team, which is pretty much Black Semiconductor in a nutshell. Fun fact: Alexander Tumanov joined us two days before the race and jumped right in, meeting most of his colleagues for the first time mid-run. If that's not a running start, we don't know what is! And here is what our running captain Gavin Sison had to say: "The energy before and after the run is what I enjoy most, getting hyped up together, then cheering and congratulating each other at the finish. And the cheering lasted even longer this year: everyone who also ran in 2025 improved their time. Cooling down, the Black Semiconductor way. Last Friday, we came together for our summer party. Aachen gave us 40°C, not your usual summer day here. So a last-minute idea turned into the most effective solution we could ask for: water fights. Intense battles, quick alliances, and everyone laughing together in the end. Four years ago, our first summer party had around 20 people. This year: 275. Family and friends included. Every summer, every winter, the party looks different, because every few months brings new experts, new talents, new people shaping this company. It's a bit like the World Cup but with our own twist: more than 30 nations forming one team, connecting in Aachen, working on the best kept secret in the semiconductor industry. This relationship can't be replaced by any AI" Last weekend, 1,960 graduates threw their hats into the air at RWTH Aachen University Aachen's Graduiertenfest, 6,530 people in a sold-out stadium, families and friends and years of late nights all coming down to one moment. Our Co-Founders, Daniel Schall and Sebastian Schall, were invited to give the keynote as the recipients of the Aachener Ingenieurpreis this year. What few in the crowd knew: Daniel once missed his own graduation. So in a way, he was finally throwing his hat too.
