Michele Manto shared thisNot to be mistaken for an April Fool's prank, this career update needed to wait one day. I'm beginning a new professional chapter and I want to give the context this step deserves, before I share what's next. First fifteen years of my career in pharma and healthcare at AbbVie: across geographies, functions, and teams, I learned how the right leadership, discipline and culture amplify scientific innovation into global impact for patients and society. This invaluable experience got me inspired to build more and I joined Galapagos in 2017. As the first commercial hire, I stepped into a team of visionary scientists with one of Europe's strongest biotech pipelines, from small molecules to cell therapy. Being the underdog, we discovered the meaning of grit, building business operations from the ground up, facing unforgiving competition, and seeking unforeseen opportunities in any setback. Ultimately, we carved that business out and integrated it into Alfasigma. The challenge shifted from building to consolidating. New leadership muscles were at play to foster a driven team, a clear plan, and the humility to keep adjusting. That organization is now proudly the engine for Alfasigma's European expansion. Now, the new chapter. My path is turning toward something I care about deeply: accelerating biotech across Italy and Europe to bridge scientific excellence with the patients who need it most. To do this, I'm deepening my collaboration with XGEN Venture. More to share as things take shape. In the meantime, let's connect to learn more together.

Today Dialybrid announced financing and a first clinical milestone for a new vascular access solution developed to address this need. Michele Manto liked thisMichele Manto liked thisEvery MedTech founder I talk to has the same fantasy (at least initially!)👉 build it, scale it, IPO it. 📣 But the reality check shows us that almost nobody gets there anymore ‼️ That leaves me with two questions that keep popping up: 1️⃣ Do we actually have enough buyers for the MedTechs out there? - The IPO route isn't just slow right now, but it's structurally shrinking as an exit path. - M&A accounted for over 94% of global digital health exits in H1 2025, 107 deals versus just 6 IPOs. (Galen Growth) - In H1 2026, MedTech M&A hit $48.9B across 92 deals, while only 2 MedTech IPOs came to market, raising a combined $710M. (J.P. Morgan Biopharma and Medtech Deal Report, Q2 2026) - And importantly...capital is concentrating, not spreading. PitchBook's Q1 2026 data shows dealmaking consolidating around fewer, higher-quality assets, with larger average round sizes going to later-stage companies. 👉 That means that the buyer pool isn't just small. It's getting pickier. 2️⃣ Should the buyers only be BigCos, or is that the wrong frame entirely? - Everyone defaults to the same acquirer profile: the strategic BigCo with the sales force and regulatory muscle to actually distribute your product. But that's not the only merger math available - Venture-to-venture acquisitions, where venture-backed consolidators use fresh capital to buy venture-backed peers, made up 70% of all digital health - M&A deals in H1 2025, making peer-to-peer the majority of the market, not the exception. (Galen Growth) 👉 So maybe the real fix isn't waiting for BigPharma or BigMedTech to show up with a checkbook. Maybe it's two mid-stage MedTechs combining forces, pooling distribution, and surviving together instead of dying alone waiting for a buyer that never comes. So help me out here, please: ❓ Are there actually enough strategic acquirers in MedTech to absorb the volume of venture-backed companies being built right now? ❓ Should we keep treating BigCo acquisition as the only "real" exit, or actively build the infrastructure for MedTech-to-MedTech mergers as a survival and growth strategy? ❓ If peer-to-peer M&A is already 70% of activity, why does almost nobody talk about it and the conversation is still focused on pushing towards solo-growth and expanding/crossing the boarders alone?

Two stories recently featured in the media put a human face on our NOUS-209 trial in #LynchSyndrome carriers. The Associated Press featured a Houston physician who lost her mother to colon cancer when she was 7 and her sister to brain cancer at age 25 — and who after receiving NOUS-209 had her first two polyp-free colonoscopies in over a decade. TODAY told the story of a father of four who lost his father and brother to cancer and after decades of finding polyps at every screening, has now had three consecutive years of clear colonoscopies after being a participant in the NOUS-209 trial. Their experiences reflect our NOUS-209 phase 1b/2 results published in Nature Medicine, including first clinical evidence of cancer interception in #LynchSyndrome carriers. Racchiude qualcosa che spesso sfugge: un fondatore non costruisce solo un’azienda, ma ne plasma la cultura. Ogni scelta, ogni difficoltà affrontata, ogni atto di coraggio lascia un’impronta che, con il tempo, diventa il DNA dell’organizzazione. In Avanzanite Bioscience, la nostra ambizione non è mai stata semplicemente commercializzare farmaci orfani. Il nostro obiettivo è fare in modo che l’innovazione arrivi davvero alle persone che ne hanno bisogno. La scienza crea possibilità. Sono le persone a trasformarle in accesso. Tutto questo non è mai il risultato di una sola persona. È il frutto di professionisti straordinari che scelgono di credere nella stessa missione e di alzare l’asticella ogni giorno. Mi sento fortunato a lavorare al fianco di Giovanni Galliano, Viviana Anelli e di tutto il team Avanzanite, il cui impegno dà concretezza, ogni giorno, alla nostra visione. Se c’è un’eredità che spero di lasciare, non si misura in ricavi, raccolte di capitale o crescita. Si misura nel numero di pazienti che hanno avuto una possibilità in più perché qualcuno ha deciso di non accettare che “il sistema funziona così”. La variabilità si riduce, certi tratti si amplificano, la nuova realtà porta inevitabilmente l'impronta di chi ha iniziato. È il marchio di chi parte da zero. Ieri sera, a Cagliari, ho incontrato Adam Andrzej Plich — Founder & CEO di Avanzanite Bioscience. Ha fondato Avanzanite partendo da una partnership con un'azienda siciliana e da lì ha costruito una piattaforma pan-europea per la commercializzazione di farmaci orfani, con 32 milioni di euro raccolti e revenue triplicata anno su anno. In tre anni. Con una missione precisa: nessun paziente lasciato indietro. Ma quello che ho riconosciuto in Adam non erano i numeri. Era quell'energia particolare che hanno le persone che hanno costruito qualcosa con le proprie mani. Quella combinazione di visione, ostinazione e cura che non si delega — si inocula, lentamente, in chi lavora con te. Lo si vede nel team che ha costruito intorno a sé. Giovanni Galliano, General Manager Italia, porta con sé oltre vent'anni nel settore e più di 12 farmaci orfani lanciati. Viviana Anelli completa un team che parla la stessa lingua della missione — quella di chi non si accontenta di portare un farmaco sul mercato, ma vuole che arrivi davvero ai pazienti. C'è un altro effetto del fondatore che non trovate sui libri di biologia. È quella carica che si trasmette — la voglia di fare e di farlo bene — che diventa il DNA di un'organizzazione intera. L'ho riconosciuta subito, quella carica, e so quanto costa tenerla viva quando il sistema intorno a te fatica a stare al passo. E so anche cosa succede quando manca, o si esaurisce. Quante innovazioni non sono mai arrivate a chi ne avrebbe beneficiato semplicemente perché non c'era nessuno disposto a scommetterci? È una domanda scomoda. Ma vale la pena farsela.

This follows our Phase 1b/2 results published in #NatureMedicine — the first clinical evidence of cancer interception in Lynch Syndrome carriers. We are advancing toward our registration-enabling trial later this year. Fast Track opens the door to closer collaboration with the FDA as our program advances. Because #LynchSyndrome Carriers deserve a better option to manage their cancer risk.
