As a 40+ year expat I feel the majority of us have be caught/misled in the international ‘investment’ game and being totally unregulated we have always been screwed with schemes promising excellent returns from ‘advisors’ who have simply been salespeople and collecting various levels of sizable fees/bonuses.

A hard lesson - we thought we had a safe/secure investments and but again another scheme unregulated, paying ridiculous bonus to sales agents. Again relying on Adminstrators to prove a Fraud/Ponzi scheme collecting huge fees.

The only conclusion - just do not invest into anything which is unregulated. It is a huge risk

The patience and time taken to explain the various products on offer. In addition, the overall process to onboard me was great.

If there were minus stars I'd have gone there. We gave a firm in London that Holborn, through their Algarve representative Jason Swan, 200,000 euros on May 28, 2025 based on Jason recommending them highly even saying most people leave their funds in place and roll them over when their initial contract period is over as they're so happy with the results. I read reviews, checked with our tax people etc. and we went ahead. Holborn Assets was recommended by Expats Portugal, a group that helps people make the transition to expat life and supposedly vets all their referrals thoroughly. In our case, the firm Jason touted so highly went into receivership shortly after receiving our funds and it turns out to have been a ponzi scheme all along. We are now told by those overseeing the dissolution of the scheme's assets that we may get 4 to 5 pence on the euro and it may take several years. I am 84 and my husband is turning 90 soon. This was our cushion to support our lives in addition to social security. It is gone, stolen by someone we trusted to guide us since we were new to the EU. Jason has refused any responsibility, hasn't reached out, hasn't apologized and Expats Portugal has behaved the same. No one responsible gives a damn. So, beware. Holborn cares about the fee they collect from those they give your money to, not the legitimacy of the investment. Jason didn't do any due diligence apparently, since had he done so he surely would have found out they were just about to collapse.

I understand that reviews must comply with your guidelines, but I hope legitimate reviews from former Holborn Assets clients are not being removed simply because they are negative.

I am in contact with a large number of former clients, particularly in Vietnam, Thailand and Hong Kong, who report having suffered significant financial losses after following advice from Holborn Assets advisers.

There is also now public reporting on these issues, including this article from The Telegraph: "British expats-wiped out 150m service station ponzi scheme".

My only objective is to ensure that future potential clients have access to genuine customer experiences before making a decision.

If legitimate reviews are being removed, that would be disappointing and, in my view, contrary to the purpose of a consumer review platform.

To clarify, this review is based on my own direct experience as a Holborn Assets client, not on others' accounts or media coverage.

I invested through Holborn Assets' Ho Chi Minh City office, on the advice of adviser Anthony Porrovecchio: USD 74,000 in Godwin Capital No.8 (rolled over into the current certificate in July 2023, originally invested 2021) and USD 65,000 in Empire Special Situations 2 Limited (April 2023).
Both were presented to me as safe, fixed-income investments, with no disclosure that they were unregulated products, that my capital was fully at risk, or that they carried no FSCS protection.

Empire Special Situations 2 has been in default since April 2025. Godwin Capital No.8 entered administration, with administrators reporting recovery of roughly 4% without legal action.
Holborn's own UK entity entered liquidation in October 2023 and has been in FSCS default since January 2025.

Since raising this directly with Holborn, I've received only generic responses denying responsibility, despite a documented, multi-year correspondence trail with the adviser.

This is a genuine, first-hand experience as a paying client, and I'd ask that it remain visible so future potential clients can make an informed decision.

At receiving a lump sum to invest, I approached several financial investment companies, including Holborn Assets. A friend recommended that I contact Geoff Dore of Holborn Assets and I had several conversations with him and his colleague, Ronan Williamson, trying to find a balance between my current circumstances and the next five years. I was impressed by the willingness of Geoff to look into my requests for some investments outside of the normal investment destinations. As I have spent many years in numerous countries, I was pleased that my requests were finally taken under consideration.
The team was effective and efficient in presenting the product that, after much discussion about the various industries and the geopolitics of the day. I feel that the product has covered all my relevant sectors and possible eventualities going forward.
The patience and the polite manner in which the team engaged and presented various options at every meeting made me feel comfortable with my choice.

I look forward to working with them over the next few years.

Excellent service and intervention from Tamsyn Nixon and team in retrieving and getting a British pension reinstated that was stopped unilaterally

The experience was very positive, and I found their approach both friendly and informative. They provided clear explanations of all the products available, making it easy for me to understand my options and feel confident about the choices. I appreciated their thoroughness and willingness to answer any questions, which definitely made the process smoother.

Holborn is a big, well known premium brand. They provide easy access to truly amazing alternative investment products with promising returns. That may be why a lot of less professional "senior financial advisors" present themselves as being Holborn advisors. But they are not. Some are so callous that they have listed themselves on the Holborn Assets website. Yet, Holborn Assets are very clear that these people are not working for Holborn. Only they sell the same products that sometimes disappoint badly. Like I invested in Godwin Capital 8 twice, encouraged by a Holborn financial advisor and seem to have lost it all with Godwin in administration. Holborn maintain their innocence in the matter. Make sure to get confirmation from Holborn Assets that management is responsible for the advise you get.

First,'Best opportunity I've seen in all my years in this business'! So said my Holborn financial advisor who I trusted implicitly. So i put £100.000 into 2 Godwin 8 loan notes and 18 months later lost it all. Very poor(if any) due diligence and a totally incompetant Head of Compliance who would not supply any detail of their due diligence process. Second, same advisor recommended an RL360 pension fund in Malta, crap performer over 10 years so had to surrender the policy. This took just over 6 monthe of continual effort before the money was back in my bank Total loss estimated at £250.000. Thanks Holborn.

My experience with Holborn Assets and the GC8 investment

I invested in Godwin Capital 8 (GC8) in 2024 following the recommendation of a financial adviser from Holborn Assets.

The investment was presented to me as a suitable opportunity, but it has resulted in the loss of almost all of my capital. This has been financially and emotionally devastating.

Since then, I have learned information that has made me question whether the risks associated with this investment were fully explained and whether sufficient due diligence had been carried out before it was recommended to me. Legal proceedings involving GC8 are currently ongoing, so I cannot comment on the final outcome or whether investors will recover any of their money.

My biggest disappointment has been the overall experience. When you seek professional financial advice, you expect recommendations to be based on your best interests, with clear disclosure of all significant risks. In my personal experience, that expectation was not met.

I strongly encourage anyone considering complex investment products to carry out thorough independent research, ask detailed questions about the risks, understand how advisers are compensated, and obtain a second independent opinion before investing.

This review reflects my personal experience as an investor, while the legal process concerning GC8 is still ongoing.

Holborn Assets, through their HCMC branch, had me invest into what they were calling back then a safe and secured loan note (1st legal charge against company assets, ring fenced, etc). At the end of the day, these 2 investments happened to be 2 of the largest Ponzi scheme in recent UK history (namely Empire ESS1/ESS2 and Godwin Capital 8). Following my « wealth advisor » counsel, I took money from truly secured investment to move it into these loan notes. This money was intended to buy a house few years down the road. Both companies now went into Administration and administrator are finding dead bodies after dead bodies. Holborn is doing absolutely nothing to support their customers and they even refuse to provide basic statements that would help investors in their FSCS/FOS procedures. Instead of being sorry and support the people they contributed to scam, they just stopped communicating. Investors only received 2 short non-sense communications in 2 years!
Investors, though, managed to form support group and some of us took the lead to engage procedures with FCA and other regulatory bodies in UK (something Holborn could definitely have done on our behalf if they had truly cared about their customers). Unfortunately, non UK investors are left high and dry.
Anyone reading this comment should absolutely stay away from this company. They obviously do not deserve to manage your wealth and this company is for sure not serious in doing their due diligence. They will sell whatever gives them juicy commissions (up to 7-10% my dear!). To me, the fact that they are not supporting their customers navigate through these regulatory issues is a definite prove of their involvement in this scam.

They are giving clients terrible advice and selling them risky products . 1000,s of customers have lost a fortune in an investment scam and holborn did nothing about it ,,, customers had no protection ,,,, avoid this company
