Holland Bloorview holds a special place in my heart. When my son Will was younger, my wife and I spent countless hours there working with physiotherapists as he developed critical gross motor skills, from walking and climbing stairs to learning how to run and pedal a bike. The support our family received was extraordinary and made a lasting difference. Quite simply, Will would not be where he is today without Holland Bloorview. Yesterday we had the opportunity to give back. Together, we helped prepare the Spiral Garden for the winter season and I was proud to help rally a team of ScotiaTech volunteers to support such an incredible organization. For families like mine, Holland Bloorview truly is "A World of Possibility”. 💙 A special thank you to Caroline Hardy for organizing this wonderful event and to Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital for welcoming our team. #PoweredByPeople #ScotiaTech #GivingBack #HollandBloorview #WorldOfPossibility

I had the pleasure of speaking with Lior this Summer at ConFig 2026, after watching the keynote announcements where Itay Schiff of Figma Weave unveiled Weave's official integration into Figma, with the new Weave Tools. Figma Weave (formerly Weavy) is a node-based canvas tool for generative creative workflows. They launched publicly in the spring of 2025, raising a $4M seed round in June. Figma acquired them in October 2025, just 4 months later, for $200M. I’ve been covering the company journey since Weavy launched last year. When I caught up with Lior, I wanted to ask him about: → The company founding story → How Figma Weave fits into Figma's bigger vision → The role community has played in their growth and trajectory → How creative roles are evolving as AI and visual arts converge → What Figma Weave users can expect in the not-so-distant future Most importantly, I wanted to know his secrets to success and how many free credits can I have? The AI jobs apocalypse is postponed, possibly indefinitely. This same story has played out over and over again in both modern and historical times and at every technological inflection point, and it's been wrong every time. — Farming went from 60% of US employment in 1850 to under 5% by 1970 — Manufacturing fell from 26% to under 10% since 1960 — yet overall total employment #s kept climbing. — The railroad spawned entire industries that didn't exist before it. — By 2018, 60% of workers held jobs that didn't exist in 1940. The PC alone created 15.8 million net new U.S. jobs since 1980. And now, the Economist, according to new data published, states that AI has created at least 1 million jobs in the U.S. Technology doesn't end work — it redefines it, every time.The jobs apocalypse is postponed. Robert Michel, CPA, CMA hat darauf reagiertThe world of executive banking is small, so I won't let you speculate: I was restructured out of my role at Scotiabank. Less than a year in. It came as a complete shock. I don't think it would have mattered if it was one year or ten. Losing a job like this is something I've never experienced in my career, and something I hope never to experience again. My first reaction was shock, then sadness. But when I dug beneath that, I found something less flattering: ego. I was afraid of what everyone would think. That I'm no good. That I'm a failure. It's been about what everyone thinks, not what I think. I can't change what happened. I can choose how I respond to it. So I'm taking this as an opportunity to figure out what I want to be when I grow up. Before I move on, I want to say this: the culture at Scotiabank was genuinely great, and the people made it that way. To the colleagues, staff, and peers I worked alongside, and the partners — internal and external — I got to build relationships with, thank you. I'm grateful for every one of you. Right now, moving forward looks like pickleball, Pilates, running, learning the ukulele, and writing. My first book comes out soon. My second, about losing a corporate career — the parts most executives never say out loud — is being written right now. I'm not a perfect person. I've made plenty of mistakes. But I know I'm a good person who genuinely cared about the people who worked for me. I'm looking forward to whatever comes next.

It was a special pleasure to receive the award from Kyle McNamara, which was then followed by a fireside discussion on leadership with Ranji Narine, two Scotiabank alumni I was delighted to meet at this event. Shout-out as well to Ali Razavi! This recognition is especially meaningful because it comes from a community of technology leaders I deeply respect. A sincere thank you to Scotiabank and the many leaders, past and current, who create the environment for me and for others to excel. Special call-out to Tim Clark for his belief in what our teams can do, and to my colleagues across ScotiaTech and my Global Corporate Functions technology team — this award belongs to all of us. It's a privilege to build alongside an organization that invests in its people and leaders, and gives us room to do ambitious work. When I reflect on my career, I don't think first about technology, transformations, or awards. I think about people. The mentors, colleagues, and teams who trusted me, challenged me, supported me, and helped shape the leader I am today. For that, I am deeply grateful. I've always believed that leadership starts with trust. Trust enables innovation, growth, inclusion, and ultimately, great teams. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Robert Michel, CPA, CMA gefällt dasRobert Michel, CPA, CMA gefällt dasAfter almost 22 years, my chapter at Scotiabank has come to a close. It is difficult to capture more than two decades in a post. I joined the bank with a risk consulting background and could never have predicted the path my career would take — or the breadth of experiences that would allow me to learn, lead and contribute across so many important and complex areas. Along the way, I developed deep expertise in fraud, crisis management, business continuity and operational resilience — areas that became some of the most meaningful parts of my work. I had the privilege of leading through periods of significant change, building and transforming global teams and programs, navigating complex events, and working alongside extraordinarily talented people across the organization and the industry. My time at Scotia also created opportunities well beyond my day-to-day roles. I had the privilege of taking on leadership roles with the Canadian Bankers Association, serving as a board member for GBS, and being recognized by The Globe and Mail as one of Canada’s Top 50 executives. I am equally proud to continue serving as an Honorary Chair with the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation — work that has brought a very different and deeply personal sense of purpose. When I look back, though, the accomplishments themselves are not what I value most. It is the people. I have been extraordinarily fortunate to lead, work with, learn from and advocate for exceptional people over the past 22 years. I am grateful for the experiences, relationships, lessons and opportunities that have shaped me as an executive and as a person. And I am genuinely excited about what comes next. For the first time in a very long time, there is a blank page in front of me. I’m looking forward to bringing the leadership experience, resilience, curiosity and hard-earned perspective of the past 22 years to what comes next. To everyone who has been part of the journey, thank you. I close this chapter with a great deal of gratitude — and genuine optimism for what lies ahead.
